Chapter 176: 176: So this is the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters?
"Honestly, I’m very disappointed in all of you," Muzan said flatly.
"Please forgive us." Kokushibo bowed low, pressing his forehead to the floor as Muzan placed a hand on top of his head.
"I’ve given you more than enough time. Hundreds of years. Not only have you failed to bring me the blue spider lily, you’ve also brought me nothing but unnecessary trouble."
"My lord, please don’t say such sad things. We’ve been working toward your goal this entire time without ever slacking off," Doma said. Over the past few centuries, Muzan had complained to them more than once. Doma was so used to it by now that he assumed this latest plan was just something Muzan had said in a fit of anger.
After all, with Muzan’s personality, there was no way he would actually expose the Infinity Castle — his ultimate hiding place — to the outside world.
"Is that so?"
In that instant, a red blur flashed past.
Doma’s head was sliced clean off.
A tentacle tipped with a bone blade caught the head in mid-air and slowly carried it right in front of Muzan’s plum-red eyes.
"Have I been too lenient with you Upper Ranks? Has it made you lazy? Tell me, in all these hundreds of years, what have you actually done for me besides killing a few worthless Hashira? Have you wiped out the Demon Slayer Corps? Have you found the location of the Ubuyashiki family’s hideout? You haven’t done any of that, have you?"
"But—"
Doma tried to defend himself, but the expression on Muzan’s face suddenly twisted into something vicious.
"Shut up!"
"My patience with you has completely run out. If that man hadn’t appeared, maybe I could have still tolerated you and let you keep searching for the blue spider lily over the endless years ahead. But I can’t wait anymore. Every single second right now is pure torture for me!"
Ivan’s appearance had been like dawn breaking through endless darkness — blinding, and touching the deepest, most desperate desire in Muzan’s heart.
Muzan, who had never seen that dawn before, had been able to endure the darkness.
But now that he had seen it, he had to have it. No matter the cost.
That man?
The demons were confused. Gyutaro seemed to realize something. His face turned pale with shock. "Don’t tell me some demon actually ate the blue spider lily and stopped fearing sunlight? That’s impossible! So the blue spider lily really does exist?!"
To be honest, every Upper Rank present — including the now-dead Hantengu — had always doubted whether the blue spider lily even existed. They figured if it did, they wouldn’t have spent hundreds of years without finding a single clue.
There were only two possibilities in that case: either the flower truly didn’t exist, or it did exist but its name had changed, it was extremely rare, and its growing conditions were incredibly strict. Otherwise they would have found it by now.
The atmosphere in the room grew heavy.
"Gyutaro is right. The blue spider lily does exist. Or at least, it did. I wasn’t the only human who received treatment from that doctor. He... took the complete formula." Killing intent filled Muzan’s eyes. At the same time, fierce jealousy and unwillingness surged in his chest.
"Unbelievable..." Akaza muttered.
"His strength is second only to mine. Upper Rank Four Hantengu died at his hands." Muzan let out a heavy breath.
"When I found him, he was with members of the Demon Slayer Corps. If I’m not wrong, he’s joined them."
"My lord, you mean...?" Doma seemed to finally understand why Muzan had gone so crazy.
"I don’t know how much of his humanity is left. But right now, the more humanity he still has, the better it is for my plans."
Muzan tossed Doma’s head away.
"Human emotions. What a ridiculous thing." After centuries of creating demons, Muzan had reached that conclusion. Among the Twelve Kizuki, the ones with thinner emotions tended to have higher talent and could handle more of his blood. That was why Gyutaro, who carried Daki on his back, seemed to have a bit too much humanity in Muzan’s eyes.
"Either way, he’s going to die by my hand... But before our final battle, I don’t want to be bothered by some ants. In these next three days, I want all of you to spread my blood across Japan. Create as many demons as possible. At the same time, start slaughtering the Hashira in the Demon Slayer Corps."
"Don’t disappoint me again..."
Muzan turned his back on them.
"My lord, should I go test his strength?" Kokushibo’s voice was low and powerful.
"No need."
...
Elsewhere.
After a long trek through mountains and forests, the group finally stopped in front of a mountain.
Compared to the towering peaks around it, this one looked completely ordinary.
Ivan Greevs had passed countless mountains just like it on the way here. Plain. Unremarkable. Not even a single trail at the foot of the mountain.
"Please follow me." Rengoku’s crow flapped its wings and flew to the right. The group followed behind it, stepping over dead branches and fallen leaves as they walked deeper into the woods.
After a few hundred steps, the view suddenly opened up.
Hidden behind the dense trees was a wide stretch of grass. A clear stream wound around a large estate like a jade ribbon. The estate was huge. If you didn’t look down from high above, you would never notice it was there.
"These are wisteria trees." Tamayo examined the hanging branches along the path. As a doctor, she recognized the wisteria leaves immediately. "It’s a shame it’s not the season for them to bloom. This place would be quite beautiful otherwise."
When wisteria bloomed, it released a unique fragrance. The scent meant nothing to ordinary humans, but demons hated it more than anything.
"Please follow me." They walked along the white wall until they reached the front gate of the estate.
Kyojuro Rengoku raised his right hand and knocked on the copper ring a few times.
Dong dong dong.
A moment later, light footsteps approached. With a creak, the large gate slowly opened from inside.
"Welcome back, Lord Rengoku." Standing behind the door were two girls who looked very similar — one with white hair, one with black. They wore deep purple kimonos embroidered with flower patterns, and each had a light purple flower ornament hanging from one side of their short hair.
"Please come in."
Their eyes were strangely empty, and their faces looked as delicate as porcelain.
"So this is the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters? It’s only a little bigger than Lady Tamayo’s estate," Yushiro muttered as he dragged a line of black suitcases behind the girls. He kept glancing around. If he had a choice, he would rather stay alone with Lady Tamayo instead of being surrounded by other people.
