Chapter 115: 115: Blood Invasion

In the underground prison, Frenchie had just freed Kimiko when the guards who arrived seconds later shot him in the arm.

Bang!

The sharp crack of gunfire echoed through the narrow concrete corridor like thunder trapped underground.

"Fa.. fuck.." Frenchie grunted in pain, clutching his bleeding bicep as blood seeped between his fingers.

Under the heavy gunfire, the four of them had no choice but to take cover. They ducked behind a low reinforced wall as bullets screamed overhead, chipping away concrete and sending dust and debris raining down on them. The air grew thick with the acrid smell of gunpowder.

"Hughie, can your powers stop bullets?" Frenchie asked, supporting a pale-faced Kimiko who clearly wasn’t in any shape to fight. She leaned heavily against him, her breathing shallow.

"No."

Ivan’s answer was blunt.

"But I can try. I’ll take them out when they get close," he added. He didn’t want to show off too much, or Mother’s Milk and Frenchie might get suspicious.

Keep it believable, he reminded himself. Just enough to be useful, not enough to scare them.

"Then we fake a surrender." Mother’s Milk raised his hands and shouted over the wall, his deep voice cutting through the chaos. "Hey! Boys, hold your fire! We surrender! Stop shooting!"

The gunfire stopped almost immediately, the sudden silence ringing in their ears.

"Hands on your heads! Get down!" The tactical team quickly surrounded them, guns raised, screaming orders. Heavy boots pounded against the floor as they closed in, tactical vests and helmets making them look like faceless killers.

Right then, Ivan exploded forward like a predator unleashed.

Swoosh!

He sliced through one guard with the blood blade in his hand, the crimson edge cutting clean through kevlar and flesh with a wet, sickening sound.

"Fuck you! Stop!" The remaining guards swung their rifles toward him, but before they could pull the triggers, Ivan flicked his wrist. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Several blood spikes shot out and punched straight through their throats. The guards gurgled, clutching at their necks as they collapsed in a heap.

"...." Mother’s Milk and Frenchie stared, completely stunned. Their eyes widened at the brutal efficiency of the kills.

Looking down at the bodies, Ivan faked a sickened expression and stared at his own hands, letting them tremble slightly. "Oh shit... I just killed them that fast."

If he could, he’d give himself an Oscar for this performance. The wide-eyed horror on his face was perfectly calibrated.

"I knew you could do it," Frenchie said excitedly, throwing an arm around Ivan’s shoulders despite his own injury. Seeing his "distress," Frenchie tried to comfort him. "Don’t beat yourself up. These guys aren’t good people. They’re CIA black-site thugs. They’ve got at least a couple dozen bodies on their hands. Trust me, they had it coming."

Right as Frenchie finished talking, a bright flash of light filled the corridor.

Starlight appeared in her old costume, the familiar white-and-gold suit glowing softly in the dim emergency lighting.

"Looks like you don’t really need my help," she said, eyeing the corpses on the floor. In the end, she still chose to follow her conscience and play the righteous hero. After all, that was the belief she’d clung to for years. Being human was complicated, and Starlight was no exception.

"Sorry, I didn’t think you’d actually come," Ivan said, acting surprised to see her.

"Just like you said... I’m a fucking supe. But I’m still a hero, right?" Her voice carried a mix of determination and lingering doubt.

As the group prepared to leave, Ivan suddenly sensed a familiar energy signature. He looked up. Sure enough, A-Train stepped out of the shadows at the end of the corridor, his eyes burning with rage.

"Homelander was right. There really is a traitor among us," A-Train said, glaring at Starlight.

"You guys take Kimiko and go. Starlight and I will handle A-Train."

Ivan waved them ahead. "Don’t worry. I took that shot, remember?"

"Alright. Be careful."

Frenchie knew he’d only be dead weight if he stayed. He picked up the unconscious Kimiko and headed out with Mother’s Milk, casting one last worried glance over his shoulder.

"What thing? You mean Compound V?" Starlight asked, frowning.

"I’ll explain later."

Several streams of blood burst out from Ivan’s body, swirling around him like flowing ribbons in an ancient painting. The crimson tendrils moved with eerie grace, catching the flickering light.

At the same time, Starlight powered up. Her eyes glowed bright gold as the lights overhead started buzzing and flickering from the surge of energy.

The next second, she raised her arms and fired two thick beams of golden light straight at A-Train.

This was a battle between light and speed!

Starlight looked like a goddamn goddess of light, raining down countless beams that lit up the entire corridor like a light show. The air crackled with raw power. Unfortunately, the tight space kept her from covering every angle.

A-Train dodged the light rain while avoiding Starlight’s direct beams. Thanks to the massive amount of Compound V he’d just slammed into his veins, his speed was pushed to the absolute limit.

He moved with insane precision, slipping through every attack like a ghost, and closed the distance to Starlight in a flash.

With one hard shove, he sent her flying into the wall with a heavy thud.

The whole exchange took less than three seconds. Most of the movements were so fast even Ivan couldn’t fully track them.

It was just too goddamn quick for normal eyes.

A-Train stood there breathing hard, chest heaving, then walked up to Ivan with pure murder in his eyes. "You’re the one who killed the only person I ever loved."

"I have no idea what you’re talking about."

The blood swirling around Ivan instantly wrapped around A-Train’s neck like a noose. Before A-Train could break free, a massive blood fist slammed straight into his face.

Bang!

A-Train flew backward, tumbling across the floor. When he tried to get up and charge Ivan, he didn’t notice the blood still clinging to his face had already slithered into his nostrils.

"Ahhh!!" A-Train clutched his chest and curled up like a shrimp. The pain was so bad sweat poured down his forehead. "My heart... my fucking heart..."

Seconds later, he passed out cold.

"Is he dead?" Starlight asked anxiously.

She had never wanted to kill A-Train.

"Probably not. From the way he moved earlier, it looks like he has a heart condition."

Ivan hadn’t killed him because A-Train still had value. His blood had already invaded the speedster’s heart. From now on, A-Train’s life was literally one thought away from ending.

[Super Speed fusion in progress. Current progress: 1%]

Starlight still wasn’t completely sure. Before leaving, she called an ambulance for A-Train.

...

Meanwhile.

Butcher had found Madeline’s residence and slipped inside her villa. The place reeked of expensive taste—polished marble floors, modern art on the walls, and silence that felt too heavy.

He waited for about two hours, hidden in the shadows of the luxurious living room, knife in hand and patience wearing thin.

It wasn’t until two hours later that Madeline finally came home.

The second she kicked off her shoes and started walking toward the living room, Butcher appeared out of nowhere and clamped a hand over her mouth.

"Mmph!"

"Hello, cunt. Sssh~ Daddy’s home."
