Chapter 1286: Chapter 646: Mo Han & Wanwan Arc - Lin Musen Confesses to Ning Wan
Ning Wan and Lin Musen didn’t look like they’d known each other for long, because if Ning Wan had known Lin Musen earlier, there’s no way she would have said she didn’t know him.
Lin Musen still had a smile on his face as he directly explained with a laugh, "Wanwan and I, we can be considered to have officially met today. What’s wrong?"
Before he went to the Ning Family, he had already looked into some things about Ning Wan. It wasn’t a lot, but he did know that Ning Wan and Ning Yan’er had never gotten along since they were kids, and he even knew that Ning Yan’er used to trip Ning Wan up on purpose and got the people at school to isolate her.
And compared to Ning Yan’er, Lin Musen liked Ning Wan’s character and conduct more, especially that stubborn streak she carried. He hadn’t seen that kind of temperament in a girl for many years.
Ning Yan’er could also hear that there was something off in Lin Musen’s tone, but when she thought about it carefully she couldn’t figure out what exactly was off. After all, Lin Musen had kept a gentle expression on his face from beginning to end when he spoke.
She tugged at the corner of her mouth, glanced at Xi Mohan across from her, and found that the man had already lowered his head and continued eating his steak, perfectly calm, with no emotional reaction at all. She couldn’t help but secretly breathe a sigh of relief.
What she was worried about was that Xi Mohan had really fallen for Ning Wan, and then, seeing Lin Musen and Ning Wan together, wouldn’t be able to control his emotions.
Thinking of that, a faint smile appeared on her face. She turned her head slightly to look at Ning Wan, then let her gaze fall on Lin Musen and spoke. "Really? From the way you two are now, you seem pretty close. Have you decided to be together?"
Lin Musen laughed. "I’m just about to start pursuing Wanwan. It depends on whether Wanwan agrees or not."
Ning Wan’s body stiffened. From beginning to end she hadn’t said a single word, maintaining her silence. Every now and then she would glance at Xi Mohan, who was sitting there eating elegantly, but she discovered that he didn’t react at all. Her heart instantly felt a little more sour.
When she heard Lin Musen’s words, her mind started to go blank, as if she hadn’t heard what he said at all. She just lowered her head and stayed quiet.
Lin Musen turned his head and glanced at Ning Wan, immediately seeing what kind of mood she was in. The ends of his brows lifted slightly, but he didn’t react much. Instead, he looked at Ning Yan’er and said, "Wanwan is thin-skinned."
Ning Yan’er glanced at Ning Wan, but inwardly let out a cold laugh.
Ning Wan, thin-skinned?
What a joke, okay?
If she were thin-skinned, would she be clinging to Xi Mohan like a piece of taffy that you can’t shake off?
Xi Mohan, who was sitting opposite Ning Yan’er, also paused for a moment in his movements, then continued cutting the steak in front of him, his face showing no extra expression.
Lin Musen and Ning Wan didn’t stay near them for long. They directly chose a seat by the window and sat down, just so happening to be right behind Xi Mohan. After the waiter brought over the menus, Lin Musen handed one straight to Ning Wan and said, "Order whatever you want, don’t hold back. Look at you, you’re so skinny there’s hardly any meat on you. I’m going to fatten you up a bit, otherwise you’re kind of bony to hold."
When Ning Wan heard what Lin Musen said, the corner of her mouth twitched. She lowered her head and glanced at her own figure. She wasn’t that skinny, okay? Was he really that exaggerated?
The waiter beside them saw this and spoke up with open envy. "Miss, your boyfriend treats you really well."
Ning Wan’s face flushed red. She opened her mouth to explain, "He’s not—"
But she had just gotten out three words when Lin Musen across from her already cut in, "Hurry up and order, I’m about to starve to death."
Hearing the faint complaint in Lin Musen’s tone, Ning Wan gave him a resentful look, but still muttered under her breath, "Didn’t you already eat all the food I made at noon? I haven’t even had lunch, and I haven’t said I’m hungry yet."
Even though Ning Wan muttered very softly, both Lin Musen and Xi Mohan heard it.
When he heard Ning Wan say she hadn’t eaten lunch, Xi Mohan’s eyes darkened slightly.
Lin Musen, on the other hand, stared at her with wide eyes and said, "You didn’t even eat lunch? You went home and didn’t eat? Ning Wan, do you not take your own health seriously?"
Ning Wan choked for a moment, lifting her eyes to look at him. She hadn’t expected him to catch what she’d said. After thinking it over, she still smiled and awkwardly said, "I just went back and was so tired that I fell asleep right away and forgot to eat. Didn’t you say you were treating me to a meal? Then I’m really going to order."
Even though she knew Xi Mohan and the others were sitting right behind her, Ning Wan didn’t want to let herself look that pathetic, and she definitely didn’t want that woman Ning Yan’er to get what she wanted. On the contrary, she wanted to live even better, to cherish herself properly.
Since Ning Wan said she wouldn’t be polite, she really wasn’t polite. She ordered a steak, and on top of that a lobster—the big kind, the most expensive item in the restaurant—plus a plate of spaghetti, two slices of cake, then handed the menu to Lin Musen, face completely calm. "Okay, you can order your own."
Looking at her, Lin Musen couldn’t help blurting out, "I thought you’d already helped me order..."
Ning Wan froze for a second, then felt a bit embarrassed. She immediately said, "I haven’t ordered for you. I ordered for myself. But if you don’t mind, I can give you a little. Only a little, though..."
Lin Musen, "..." He was the one treating her, he was the one paying, so why did he feel like the little girl in front of him was acting like a miser?
No, not a miser—more accurately, like a total penny-pincher.
And she’d even gone out of her way to emphasize that she’d only share a little.
Taking the menu, Lin Musen flipped through it twice and just ordered a steak, then looked at the waiter and said, "And bring us a bottle of your best red wine."
But as soon as Lin Musen finished speaking, Ning Wan immediately said, "You can’t drink. You still have to drive later... if you drink, that’s drunk driving..." As she spoke, she turned to the waiter. "Cancel the red wine, just these dishes."
Lin Musen paused and turned to look at Ning Wan, raising an eyebrow as he said, "Are you worried something will happen if you ride in my car later?"
Ning Wan gave him a cool sideways glance, snatched the menu from his hand, and passed it to the waiter, politely saying, "We’ll just have these, thank you."
The waiter looked at Lin Musen, but in the end still took the menu directly from Ning Wan’s hand. Wearing a polite, flawless smile, she said with a soft laugh, "You’re welcome. We’ll have your dishes out as soon as possible. Please wait a moment."
"Okay."
After the waiter left, Ning Wan finally turned her eyes to Lin Musen across from her and said, "Alcohol is never a good thing to begin with, and drunk driving is treating your life like a joke."
