Chapter 961: Chapter 958: One and a Half Milks 6
She stood there stupidly, rooted to the spot, at a complete loss.
Ever since she’d flatly rejected Li Zhen last time, he had never called again. She’d thought he’d finally given up. Deep down, she did feel a faint sense of guilt, but between a man and a woman, the biggest taboo was dragging things out endlessly—if you can’t give someone any hope yet keep stringing them along, that’s immoral.
"Yan Xixi... I... I just wanted to give you this present..."
He stood up in a hurry; maybe he’d been sitting too long, his legs were numb, and he almost fell to the floor.
Yan Xixi was about to help him, but he had already steadied himself against the wall and bent down to pick up a box from the floor.
Yan Xixi silently took the box. Inside was a box of chocolates and some very rare study materials.
He rubbed his hands together and breathed on them. "I won’t bother you anymore... Yan Xixi, I’m leaving..."
By accident, Yan Xixi brushed against his hand. It was icy cold.
This guy had actually sat out there in the dark for the entire night.
From Cambridge to Boston—was this what they meant by traveling a thousand miles just to deliver a feather?
Seeing her remain silent, he grew even more flustered. "I’ll go now, Yan Xixi..."
As they brushed past each other, she suddenly called out to him, "Come in for a cup of coffee."
Li Zhen was overjoyed, almost unable to believe his luck.
Piping hot coffee, fresh croissants with sliced butter, and just-baked sweet cookies... in such a cold, snowy season, there was nothing in the world more delicious than this.
Once his body warmed up, his spirits lifted as well. Li Zhen was no longer stammering, but he was still ill at ease. "Yan Xixi, I’m not bothering you, am I?? Don’t worry, I don’t have any other intentions. I just wanted to see how you’re doing... Really, I don’t want to put you on the spot... It’s just that I’m on break with nothing to do, so I thought I’d drop by and see you on the way..."
He scratched his head, grinning. "We’ve got more than three weeks off, it’s such a long break. I’m only going home in the summer. My mom told me not to come back again this time. I’m idle anyway, so I might as well come see you... Yan Xixi, you really don’t need to feel any pressure about this..."
A boy’s heart is meant to soar among the clouds.
Yan Xixi sighed inwardly. Maybe only someone very young and very sunny could have this kind of mindset?
She simply stayed quiet.
Her silence made Li Zhen even more uneasy. "Yan Xixi... if you already have plans, I won’t bother you... Really, I can leave right away..."
She suddenly smiled. "Didn’t you see? I don’t have any plans at all. In fact, I was just bored out of my mind."
Li Zhen froze, and a sudden light sparked in his eyes.
From last night till now, he had realized that Yan Xixi was all alone.
Yan Xixi was very straightforward. "I was thinking of going away for a couple of days too, but traveling alone is a little scary. Li Zhen, if you’re not in a hurry, why don’t we go together?"
Li Zhen was over the moon. "I’m not in a hurry... I’ve got time, plenty of time, tons of time..."
Maybe realizing he was a bit too thrilled, he added awkwardly, "I mean, like, we’ll just go as regular classmates..."
"Wait for me. I’ll pack up and we can head out."
Yan Xixi went into the bedroom to pack. Seeing her close the door, Li Zhen couldn’t help himself—he clenched his fists hard, then let them go, so happy he almost jumped up.
In fact, he had come here with nothing more than a gambler’s hope.
