Chapter 1081: Chapter 1021: The Prince Pursues His Bride (2)
"Dylan is my son! My only son!"
Kiya looked at Paige, harboring hatred in her heart for this woman. When this woman divorced back then, she hadn’t left either of them a single way out.
Dylan was clearly his son, yet this woman had made the whole of Abyanabad believe Dylan was some bastard child.
How could there be such a mother in this world?
Selfish, cold-blooded, heartless!
"Kiya, I advise you not to take Dylan to the funeral. You should know your mother’s temper. Even if Dylan goes, he’ll be thrown out." Paige said coldly.
"..."
"If you insist, I agree to let Dylan go pay respects to your father. But it cannot be public, only in private."
"Fine! I’ll come pick you up three days from now." Kiya compromised.
"No need, my Brother will take us to your father’s cemetery." Paige didn’t want to have any more contact with him than necessary.
"Three days from now, I’ll come pick you and Dylan up." Kiya’s attitude was extremely firm; after throwing down this line, he left.
When Kiya walked out of her bedroom, Paige slumped down onto the bed, head lowered, her expression desolate.
"Brother, how did he become so detestable now?"
"He wasn’t all that adorable to begin with."
From the very start, Adrian Desmond had opposed this marriage; it was Paige who had insisted on marrying. Now it was Paige again who had insisted on divorcing. Strictly speaking, she really was willful.
"Brother, I regret it. I shouldn’t have ignored your advice back then."
Adrian Desmond didn’t know what to say. Women in Abyanabad rarely got divorced, and Paige’s status was that of Princess Consort. From the very beginning he’d opposed her divorce, but because she was his only sister, he indulged her and brought her back.
...
The Sultan of Abyanabad passed away, and the whole nation mourned.
Adrian Desmond also canceled all his social engagements and stayed home, handling the backlog of business affairs. What troubled him most was the issue of firearms-trading licenses.
The arms business brought Adrian Desmond hefty profits every year; there was no way he would give it up.
"Uncle......" Dylan called.
Adrian Desmond looked up at the boy standing at the study door. Dylan had grown taller, and that unhealthy pallor on his face had disappeared. He was looking more and more like Paige.
"Have you had breakfast?"
"I have."
Adrian Desmond got up and walked over to Dylan, crouched down to look at him, and seeing the worry on Dylan’s face, he asked, "What’s wrong?"
"Uncle, Dad called me."
"Oh?"
"Dad said he wants to make me ****, and he wants me to go back to the Imperial Palace with him." Dylan secretly told his uncle what Kiya had said.
"Dylan, do you want to be ****?"
Dylan shook his head, shaking it like a rattle drum. "I don’t want to be ****! I want to be a painter. I want to go to lots of places, see lots of beautiful scenery, and paint lots of beautiful pictures."
"If you don’t want to be ****, no one can force you. Dylan, what are you worried about?"
Dylan looked at his uncle and said, "I think my dad is really pitiful. ... My dad is now living all alone in the Imperial Palace.
The Imperial Palace is huge, so huge, and it’s really scary."
"Silly child, how could Kiya possibly be living all alone in the Imperial Palace? Don’t forget, there’s still a Princess from Pelindi in the palace. She’s your father’s Wife now. The Princess is pregnant too; before long you’ll have a little Brother or a little sister."
Adrian Desmond was someone who’d been through it; he knew what it was like to love someone.
His Wife and child were gone, yet he still had the leisure to sleep with another woman—how much genuine affection could a man like that possibly have?
"Dad says he doesn’t love the Princess from Pelindi."
"Your dad doesn’t love the Princess from Pelindi, so where did the child in her belly come from?" Adrian Desmond said with sarcasm.
"Is it because of this that Mom doesn’t love Dad anymore?"
"You’ll have to ask your mother that."
Dylan wouldn’t dare ask his mother; Dylan was afraid of his mother’s tears.
"My dad does love my mom, but my mom doesn’t love my dad anymore. I don’t understand why my mom loved my dad at first, but later stopped loving him."
There were many things Dylan couldn’t say to his mother, but could say to Adrian Desmond. He could only say them to Adrian Desmond.
"Because your dad wasn’t good enough, so your mom stopped loving him."
"I think my dad is pretty good." Dylan muttered.
Adrian Desmond looked at Dylan, his heart aching for him. "Dylan, even though you’re living with your mother now, that doesn’t mean you can’t go on loving your father. You’re father and son; that will never change."
"Uncle, my dad has already apologized to my mom, so why won’t my mom forgive him?"
"Maybe your dad hurt your mom too deeply."
Paige came looking for them. Seeing her son in Adrian Desmond’s study, she was quite surprised. "Dylan, what are you doing here?"
Adrian Desmond stood up and ruffled Dylan’s hair, saying to Paige, "He came over to play with me."
Paige walked over and looked at Dylan suspiciously. Dylan lifted his eyes to glance at his mother, then quickly dropped his head again.
"Dylan, is there something you’re hiding from me?"
Dylan said nothing.
Paige said, "Even you won’t tell me the truth now?"
Dylan confessed, "Dad wants me to attend the coronation the day after tomorrow. He says he wants to make me Crown Prince."
"What?" Paige exclaimed.
Adrian Desmond explained, "He’s probably trying to use this way to ask for your forgiveness."
Paige looked at her son, her expression stern as she asked, "How did you answer him?"
"I said I’d think about it."
"Think about it?" Paige let out a cold laugh. "For something like this, what is there for you to think about?"
"..."
"Do you actually want to go back into that cage? Do you want to live with your grandmother again, only allowed to see me once a month?
No, if you go back into that Imperial Palace, they won’t allow you to come out and see me for the rest of your life.
I, this fickle, faithless mother who betrayed her Husband, will be your lifelong stain! They’ll erase me from your life completely!"
Adrian Desmond stopped her. "Paige, calm down."
"What the hell has that bastard Kiya done to you? You’re actually thinking of going back to the Imperial Palace with him?" Paige shoved Dylan and shouted at him.
Paige felt she had been betrayed. As a mother, being betrayed by her own son hurt far more than being betrayed by her Husband.
"Paige, don’t lose your temper. I just asked him—he doesn’t want to be Crown Prince."
"If he doesn’t want to be Crown Prince, then why did he say he’d think about it instead of refusing outright?
Dylan, if I’d known you couldn’t let go of the Crown Prince’s position, I never would have taken you out. You and that old witch could have just stayed in the Imperial Palace." Paige said, heartbroken.
"I don’t want to be Crown Prince! But I want my dad!" Dylan shouted this at Paige, then ran out.
