Chapter 1063: Chapter 1006: Curly’s Recovery
"You talk too much!" Adrian Desmond said.
"You took this bottle of poison, hid here, what are you planning to do?"
Adrian didn’t answer.
Sienna Johnson, heartbroken, said, "Do you intend to secretly drink the poison alone and commit suicide?"
Sienna looked at the small bottle in her hand, feeling as if it weighed a ton. This was Adrian’s poison, but it was "the antidote" for Curly.
Adrian hesitated, and Sienna hesitated too.
George’s antibodies failed, Curly’s condition rapidly deteriorated, he couldn’t even eat anymore, only receiving nutritional fluids, and is currently in a coma.
If this keeps going on, maybe...
"Curly is important to me, and so are you! If you sacrifice yourself to save Curly, neither I nor Curly will be at peace for a lifetime."
"Doctor X said, Curly can only live for five more days."
Sienna couldn’t speak, turning her back to Adrian as tears fell, her back fragile and helpless.
Adrian sighed, saying, "Give it to me."
How could Sienna give it to him?
This is poison, not syrup.
Sienna, staring at the poison in her hand, said, "Why does Doctor X want to eliminate us completely? What did you do to offend him?"
"I didn’t offend him, I just offended Night Owl."
"Isn’t Night Owl dead?"
"Doctor X said he isn’t dead."
Sienna noticed that Adrian’s reference to Doctor X had changed; he used to call him "the old man," but now he called him Doctor X. This indicated that Adrian’s feelings towards Doctor X had changed too.
"Didn’t you say Night Owl was dead?"
"I was fooled."
Sienna turned to look at Adrian, who had his head down, and his hand on his forehead, covering his eyes. Sienna couldn’t see the expression in his eyes at this moment, but she knew he was definitely conflicted.
"I have interacted with Night Owl a few times; that man... I don’t know... If you drink this bottle of poison, will they give me the antidote?
But have you ever thought, if you die, and Night Owl wants to eliminate us completely, what will happen to me and the child?"
So, Adrian mustn’t die!
"I originally thought Mr. Reed could quickly come up with a virus antibody, but after so long, there’s still no progress..." Adrian said.
"It’s only been three days; what kind of results are you expecting them to come up with in three days?"
"But my Curly doesn’t have that much time."
Sienna looked at the small bottle in her hand and asked, "Is it possible that this isn’t poison but a virus antibody?"
Adrian sneered, "How is that possible?"
"Didn’t you say Doctor X has always treated you well?"
"Compared to me, who can only provide him with monkeys for experiments, Doctor X prefers Night Owl, who can provide him with living people for experiments.
Doctor X is a madman!"
Sienna has interacted with Doctor X a few times; if unaware of his deeds, one might think he was just a normal old man.
When Doctor X and Adrian were together, one couldn’t tell there was a hostile relationship; if unknown, one might think they were grandfather and grandson.
Sienna stood up to leave, and Adrian shouted, "Where are you going?"
"Taking a gamble!"
"A gamble on what?"
"A gamble that Doctor X still has a shred of humanity!"
...
The "poison" given by Doctor X was sent to the laboratory, and Reggie Dewey specially tested the components of the poison. At Sienna’s insistence, the poison was also given to virus-infected lab mice.
To everyone’s delight, the symptoms of the virus-infected lab mice improved.
Reggie excitedly said, "Is it really an antibody?"
Sienna was also very excited, "Does this mean my daughter can be saved?"
Grace Logan said, "It’s still too soon to say that, even though the mice’s symptoms improved, they haven’t been cured."
Sienna’s rekindled hope was shattered again, and Maddox Brown seeing Sienna’s desolate expression, said,
"I’m not sure if it’s a virus antibody, but I’m certain of the research direction."
"Is there really a way?" Sienna nervously asked.
Grace said, "When my husband says there’s a way, there definitely is."
Maddox Brown, worthy of being a virus expert, concocted another bottle of antibody in one day and had Reggie inject it into the lab mice.
The mice were cured.
Adrian still dared not rashly give the medicine to his daughter, so he found a few infected people to test the drug.
On the 13th day, antibodies appeared in the bodies of the virus-infected, giving Adrian the courage to use the medicine on Curly.
Seeing his daughter awaken, Sienna was overjoyed, "Curly, it’s Mom. Does your body feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
"Mom, I just had a dream."
"What did you dream about?"
"I dreamed I became a little bird, flying and flying in the sky... I was so happy, flew so far, but I couldn’t find the way home." Curly laughed, "Luckily, Mom kept calling my name, and I found my way by listening to the sound."
"Curly." Sienna choked with emotion.
"Mom, why are you crying?"
"Mom was afraid you would become a little bird and never come back."
"I won’t fly that far in the future."
"Okay."
Knowing the antibody was effective, Sienna immediately sent Reggie to deliver the antibody to the hospital, leaving the rest of the matters unhandled by her.
She had more important things, which was to help Curly regain the weight lost during his illness.
"How did you know it wasn’t poison but the antidote?"
"A woman’s intuition."
Adrian: ...
Sienna had finished making chicken soup, she said to Adrian, "Adrian, help me bring the chicken soup down."
"Okay."
Sienna now spent half her time nestled in the kitchen, researching various delicacies, and even Adrian had recently gained two pounds.
"Stop cooking, you’ll turn Curly into a little pig."
"She was sick, her body is weak; if she doesn’t replenish, she’ll have health issues when she grows up, what then?"
Curly is a girl; her body is more precious.
"Since Curly is fine now, let’s go home tomorrow." Adrian suddenly suggested.
"Yeah, okay."
Sienna paused in her chopping, remembering Kenneth Brown, whom she hadn’t seen since the last time they met in the restroom.
"Have you seen Kenneth recently? I haven’t seen him at all." Sienna asked.
Of course, he wouldn’t be seen, as Adrian wouldn’t let Kenneth near here at all.
"Maybe he’s embarrassed."
"Huh?"
"That man really is dirty; knowing we were doing that in the restroom, he still eavesdropped.
It’s just as well you didn’t marry him, he’s a total psychopath."
"I think you’re the one who’s mentally disturbed!"
"I’m very ’healthy’! You know that." He winked at her.
Sienna ignored him, continuing to make her candied yams, a sweet dish that Curly loved eating.
"Don’t make too many; she can’t eat them all."
"If she can’t, you eat them."
"You’ve made me gain weight."
Here, Adrian also ceased his daily habit of morning runs.
