Chapter 1055: Chapter 999: Little Monk Curly
There’s constant infection, constant death; six days have passed, and still no antiviral drugs have been developed. Adrian Desmond was already growing impatient.
If they continued to wait, Adrian couldn’t even begin to imagine what fate awaited Curly.
They were a family of four, and missing even one was unacceptable.
With Sienna Johnson’s character, if something happened to Curly, she would never find happiness for the rest of her life.
Marion reminded, "Sixth Master, they won’t let us take Curly away."
Curly’s illness was contagious, and those people were terrified of the situation worsening. It was absolutely impossible for them to let Curly leave.
"Find a way!" Adrian tossed the problem to Marion and then strode away.
The isolation room was soundproof; unless someone used a microphone, no sound from the outside could be heard inside. Curly lay on the bed, still hooked to an IV drip, and watched her father storm out angrily, growing anxious.
"George, am I going to die?"
"No, aren’t my antibodies supposed to work for you?"
"They don’t work at all. Look, I’ve lost all my hair."
Curly’s curly hair was particularly beautiful, like a doll’s, and she loved it herself. Now it was all gone.
"I lost my hair too."
The virus was strange, causing coughing, spitting blood, fever... When it affected Curly, it prompted hair loss. Overnight, her hair fell out completely, and she cried for a long time before accepting the fact she was bald.
To cheer Curly up, George shaved his own hair off too.
Now, both of them were little bald heads.
Curly even gave them nicknames—Big Monk, Little Monk.
"Dad’s expression was terrifying; did the doctor say I’m going to die, and my dad got mad?"
"If you were going to die, wouldn’t your father be sad?"
"My dad must be angry at those doctors for not curing me because I’m going to die."
Being isolated for so long was unbearable even for adults. Curly, after all, was just a child. If George hadn’t accompanied her, reading to her, talking with her, who knows how she would’ve managed.
"Why aren’t you saying anything?"
At times like these, George usually comforted her, but now he was silent, making Curly even more frightened.
George only said, "You won’t die!"
Curly started crying, "What if I do die?"
George pressed his lips tight, not knowing how to respond. After all, he was just a child too, having been trapped here for six whole days; mentally, he was also struggling.
Curly lay there, turning her head toward the room wall, looking at the white wall, silently shedding tears. She missed her dad, her mom, Little Monster...
...
They had planned to quietly take the person away at midnight, but unexpectedly, they alarmed the doctor.
Hearing the commotion, the doctor knew a patient was leaving the hospital and immediately brought security over.
If it were an ordinary illness, leaving would be fine, but this was a contagious disease that was temporarily untreatable. Once a patient was released, leading to widespread infection, they would be the ones receiving the backlash.
"You can’t take the patient away!"
Marion, masked, blocked the security guards while Adrian went in to carry Curly out.
"Dad?"
Curly hadn’t fallen asleep. Seeing someone masked carrying her gave her quite a shock.
"Shhh, sleep now. I’m taking you somewhere else."
"Where to?"
"To a place where you can be cured."
Curly said no more, burying her head in her father’s chest, tears streaming down.
Dad must be lying; Dad wasn’t really taking her to be cured. She must be dying, and Dad was taking her to be cremated at the funeral home.
woke up George, who saw Adrian carrying Curly away and picked up Curly’s favorite teddy bear to follow them.
...
The doctor saw Adrian carrying someone out and shouted immediately, "Put the patient back, or don’t blame us for being unfriendly."
Security guards wielding batons approached, trying to intimidate Adrian and his group, while feeling anxious themselves. Each one seemed like they weren’t ordinary people, exuding a murderous aura. It felt like a rabbit confronting a ferocious wolf; if they dared approach, they’d be eaten.
"Why can’t we leave? You can’t cure us; should we just wait to die in the hospital?" Marion angrily retorted.
"Her illness is highly contagious. Once she leaves and infects others, spreading widely, are you ready to bear the consequences?" the doctor reprimanded.
"So we’re supposed to wait here to die?"
"I don’t care; you can’t leave! If you force your way out, I’ll call the police!"
"Go ahead and call!" Marion asserted firmly.
The doctor pulled out his phone and indeed dialed 110. Adrian, holding Curly, was already out; his heart ached in rage seeing how much weight she had lost in his embrace.
These useless people couldn’t cure his daughter and had so much nonsense!
"Get lost!"
"Stop them!"
Bodyguards advanced, and the security guards were no match for the agile bodyguards skilled in combat. In a few swift moves, the bodyguards handled the doctor and security guards.
"You can’t get away; the police will be here soon."
Adrian carrying Curly took the elevator to the top floor, where the door to the rooftop was locked. 003 had already gotten the key, opened the door, and Adrian wrapped Curly in a blanket, even her face covered, as he carried her to the rooftop.
As the door opened, a gust of wind rushed into their clothes, and George held onto the door, feeling like he was nearly blown away.
A helicopter was stationed on the rooftop, its massive rotors still spinning, whipping up the winds.
"Sixth Master..." 008 opened the cabin door, Adrian carrying Curly got on, and Marion picked up George too.
The helicopter took off, quickly vanishing into the night.
"Why are you crying?" Adrian felt the chill on his chest, opened the blanket, and saw Curly’s tear-stained face.
"Dad, don’t burn me alive."
Adrian: ...
"I’m afraid of the pain, don’t burn me alive. Boo hoo..."
Adrian was amused and exasperated, "When did I say I’d burn you alive?"
"You can’t cure my illness, and won’t let me stay in the hospital; my illness is contagious. You must be planning to burn me alive."
"..."
"I’ve been hospitalized, and Mom hasn’t come to see me, certainly knowing I’m incurable and has given up on me."
Adrian embraced his daughter’s small frame, reassuring, "No, you’re the apple of your parents’ eyes; how could we ever give you up?
Your mom isn’t visiting because..." Sienna was still at the police station, and Adrian thought a moment, choosing not to tell his daughter.
"Dad’s taking you to get treated. Dad’s met a pair of very skilled grandpa and grandma; they will surely cure you. Once you’re well, we can go home to find Mom and Sheehan."
