Chapter 33: Friday Funday
Friday came faster than anyone expected. Max was meeting Liliana, Cassie would start her new job, and Stacey would show her the ropes.
That morning, the three of them were having breakfast together.
"So what are you two up for today?" Max asked after he finished eating.
"Taking my girl to work with me. I got her a job at the club. Since she’s still looking for work, I figure she should do something to make rent."
Max raised an eyebrow and looked at Cassie. Ever since what happened between them in his apartment, he hadn’t tried anything. And as far as Max could see, she wasn’t planning to try anything.
For Max, it wasn’t that he didn’t want to, but he realized that he didn’t want to have sex with her. He was willing to try for something else. Possibly a relationship, but not now. Not with the way his life was. He thought she might be someone he could talk to.
So after what happened, he decided to keep things platonic for a while. If it didn’t work out, then that’s just how it goes. He would consider her a friend. A friend he wanted to fuck, but a friend nonetheless.
Her expression changed when Stacey mentioned the club. It wasn’t anywhere in the vicinity of excited.
"Do you want to go?" he asked her.
She shrugged.
When Cassie heard Max ask that question, she couldn’t help staring a little. Is he caring for her? She shook her head imperceptively. She didn’t need to have wild fantasies now.
She had stopped blushing as much around Max after the event in his apartment. She had gotten used to his presence. She wasn’t going to pretend she didn’t find him attractive, but between rent and finding a job she liked, she decided it was better to keep her distance, for now.
"I don’t really have a choice," she responded. "Rent needs to be paid. I still have to buy groceries. I can’t freeload off Stacey forever."
"I know, and I’m not saying you should. I’m just saying at least wait a bit more before you decide you want to work with Stacey. It might sound fun, but places like that are brutal. Especially when it comes to female jealousy. Stacey has told me enough stories that I wonder some things if y’all are women or vipers in human skin."
Cassie turned to Stacey only to see her shrugging her shoulders.
"He’s not wrong. But don’t worry too much. I’ll protect you. At least until you learn the ropes. Because sometimes I won’t be there." She rubbed Cassie’s shoulder encouragingly. "You can’t let them bully you. Make a stand on your first day."
Cassie felt more and more that she didn’t want to go to work with Stacey. It was a small thing at first, but hearing the manager warn her, then Max, and now Stacey, she felt it wasn’t her thing.
"Don’t look like that," Max said sympathetically. Then he continued in a serious tone, "No matter where you work, there’s going to be people who step on you to climb the ladder. If you can’t deal with this, then you should find a job where you don’t leave the house."
He felt for Cassie, but she needed to understand that the world was bigger than she expected. There will always be people who want more.
"Weren’t you just saying the place is brutal?" Cassie asked incredulously.
"I did," Max said, stealing her last piece of bacon.
"Bacon-stealing bastard," she muttered under her breath before looking up. "Okay," she said. "I know you’re both saying this stuff for my own good. I promise I won’t let either of you down."
"Good," Max said before standing. "Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have an appointment, and I don’t want to be late."
Stacey couldn’t help asking. "An appointment in jeans and a t-shirt? This early in the morning. Don’t you have work?"
"It is work, unfortunately. I’ll let you know if it goes well."
With that, Max stepped out. He wasn’t about to tell either of them what kind of work he did. What if it messed with his chances with Cassie?
Who doesn’t want a man who knows his way around a woman’s body? He encouraged himself.
Just before he closed the door, he called back, "That’s Sir Bacon-stealing bastard to you, Cass."
Max walked out confident and ready to face Liliana. He was hoping he could get her to let him put it in. A man can hope after all.
Meanwhile, inside the apartment, the two women were cleaning up.
"Really, Stace? Didn’t you say you didn’t want to know what he did?"
She shrugged. "I’m only asking. Plus, he said it’s work. Maybe they have a golf game or something. You never know. Rich people don’t always look like rich people. It’s the ultra wealthy that look really normal."
Cassie rolled her eyes. "So what are we doing today? I don’t have work until nine. Is there anything I need to know or do?"
"Nothing major, just follow my lead later."
Max left and got a taxi. This time he didn’t go to the cafe; he went directly to Liliana’s place.
When Max stepped in, he saw her in sheer clothing. His shaft twitched involuntarily as he remembered a few nights ago.
It wasn’t the same as what Meredith wore. This one was more like a nightgown. Seeing it, he was almost certain she wanted to try again.
He came hoping for her to want to try, and seeing her like this, he figured today would be his lucky day. He noticed her nipples threatening to poke a hole in the fabric.
To not look like a creep, Max had to restrain himself from letting his eyes roam her body. It took all he had not to pick her up and throw her on the bed.
Max couldn’t deny the fact that he was interested in Liliana. Not interested enough to have a relationship, but their constant interactions made him feel the need to have her.
If that was about to happen, he was more than happy to strip right here and now. He also knew that if that was happening, his job was done.
Not that he minded. Getting paid per position is fine. He just wondered how they would know which he did.
That was another thing that bothered him: how would her elders know what they had done? Will Liliana really report it honestly?
He needed to speak to her about these things before they decided to do anything. He might be willing to have sex, but he needed to secure his money first.
