Chapter 10: Champagne Wishes

Rebecca leaned against him, no longer as stern and proper as she was earlier. The champagne had her feeling tipsy. She had always been a lightweight. She was leaning into his arm, smelling his shirt. Her hand rested on his chest.

"Ready to go?" Max whispered in her ear.

She shook her head. "Not yet."

"Can’t you two wait until you get home?" Dawn called out.

Max looked back at the two people. The strap of Patricia’s dress was down, her naked breast rested in the man’s hand. When he saw everyone looking over, he put the nearest coat on her, which happened to be Max’s.

Really? My coat? Are you getting it dry-cleaned for me?

Luckily, after she was decent, he placed the coat back on the sofa. Patricia walked back to the group while the man excused himself to the restroom.

"Really, Pat?" Hyla asked.

Patricia fixed her hair, the tip of her tongue touching her upper lip. She cleared her throat. "I got carried away. You know how I get when I drink."

Dawn scoffed. "Looks like you plan to keep this one."

Patricia leaned back. "The contract is for two years. It hasn’t even been a year yet. We’ll talk about it when the time’s up."

"Two years?" Rebecca chimed in. "That’s the longest one yet."

"Did a test run before the real thing. It’s worth two years."

The women laughed. The men sat there. Max wasn’t sure if they were feeling uncomfortable. Neither had an expression.

Max took the drink from Rebecca’s hand and drank it.

"You’ve reached your limit."

He looked at her blushing red cheeks.

Her friends heard his comment and looked over. They didn’t talk to Max. Even after a year, they could ignore him like a piece of furniture. Hyla pried herself from her boy toy and took Rebecca’s phone.

Max was sure she was calling Vik.

"Ladies, would you mind looking after her for a minute. I need to use the restroom."

They waved him off. He got up and left.

On his way to the restroom, he saw lover boy coming back. He gave him a nod and went on his way. He never thought of warning him. Mac has had his own share of champagne wishes.

He still remembered his first ’in love’ experience when he first started. That woman was so good to him that he felt his head spin.

If his head spun clockwise when she was with him, it spun counterclockwise when she left him.

At the time, it was a contract, same as lover boy. He knew exactly what he was getting into, but he was swept away by how well she treated him. She would laugh at his stupid jokes, listen to his dreams, and give him money for anything he wanted. All he needed to do was make a call, and she would fix it.

It got to the point he almost told her about his debts. The one thing he promised himself never to mention to anyone.

Of course, he didn’t need to mention it. She already knew. She did a background check on him and found every piece of information she needed to know before giving him a contract.

The day the contract ended, she saw him with another man.

Like the idiot he was, he questioned her only for her to slap him in the face. Their relationship was nothing more than a contract.

That was the first lesson he learned. When a person buys you, they can throw you away. Since then, he hadn’t thought about a relationship. They serve no purpose in his world. He could pretend and play at being in love, but love was no longer in his vocabulary.

After using the restroom, he thought to himself that maybe he could try love after paying off his bills. Find one of those women who want to ’grind with their man’.

He looked in the mirror and laughed softly. He didn’t believe in it. Even as he said it, a certain large posterior woman ran across his mind. He shook his head.

A nice voice and a great ass isn’t love.

He felt his dick twitch. He ignored it. He splashed some water on his face to wake himself up. Giving himself a quick dry, he walked back to the lounge.

Rebecca was sitting lazily on the sofa, the lone soldier in a sea of sensuality. The other three couples were making eyes at each other. Patricia and lover boy had calmed down, but it was obvious from the way she moved against him that they would be leaving soon.

As soon as she saw him, she stood up.

Max didn’t hesitate. He took her coat and draped it around her shoulders, then he reached for his own coat. His hand rested on the small of her back.

"Ladies," Rebecca said, her voice smooth but her eyes blurred. "I think it’s time for me to leave. And the way you all look, I think you should head home soon, too."

"Bec, you just can’t stop lecturing, can you?" Dawn laughed. "We’ve already called our drivers. We were waiting for your boy to get back."

"Oh."

"Ready?" Max confirmed.

She confirmed, and the two of them left. Her hips swayed seductively as they walked out together.

Stepping into the night air, Rebecca shivered, her blurry eyes becoming more focused. The cold had somewhat sobered her up. She regained her usual controlled composure.

"Max," she said. He turned to her. "No need to go home tonight. We’ll go to the Crestwood villa."

This was exactly what Max wanted to hear. When he saw her drinking earlier, he was hoping she would say this.

He didn’t show any immediate excitement. He knew better than to do that out in the open. The one thing she hated was losing control publicly. Privately, that’s a separate matter.

So when he heard this, all he said was. "As you wish."

Vik appeared not long after they stepped out. Max stepped forward, opening the door. He shielded her head as she entered the car. He closed the door and walked around to the other side.

As soon as he entered and closed the car door, he said to Vik, "Crestwood Villa."

An expression crossed Vik’s face; others might not be able to place it, but Vik knew it well. It was also the reason for his own excitement.
