Chapter 1696: Chapter 1682:
The reason Wen Zaao didn’t want Chu Ge to accompany her is largely because she wanted to buy something Zhou Ang liked to eat.
But she was afraid that if Chu Ge found out, he would hold it against her, and she still cared about her face.
Wen Zaao reported the address, and after buying the items, she went to the hospital.
This time, she also noticed, she always felt like someone was following her, but she didn’t know if it was because her emotions were off lately, making her a bit jittery, or if it was just an illusion. She constantly felt like someone was trailing behind her.
However, when she turned around, she didn’t find anyone suspicious.
In the hospital, Zhou Ang was still asleep. He had woken up once in between, but his body was so weak that he soon fell back into a slumber.
Wen Zaao stood at the door for a while, and seeing Zhou Ang was still asleep, she quietly opened the door and slipped inside.
The nursing lady was holding a towel, wiping Zhou Ang’s arm. Hearing the sound, she turned her head and saw Wen Zaao, and smiled, "Lady Wen is here."
Wen Zaao responded with a hum, placing the items she bought on the bedside table, and asked, "How many times did he wake up?"
"Just once."
The nursing lady answered truthfully, "The doctor said Mr. Zhou needs to rest more, and more sleep is good for him."
Wen Zaao nodded, "He really does need some rest, he’s too exhausted."
After settling the items, she walked over to the bedside. Zhou Ang’s face was still very pale, with no signs of blood.
The nursing lady detoured over, seeing the porridge on the bedside, smiled, and said, "Lady Wen is so considerate of Mr. Zhou. This porridge is from East Alley, the far east. Lady Wen even went there especially to buy it."
"He likes to drink it, and since he’s not well now, this porridge is quite nutritious, suitable for him, so I went to buy it."
Back when she was sick, he treated her the same way, regardless of the weather or how busy he was at that time. As long as she asked, Zhou Ang would immediately help her.
Every time Wen Zaao thought of these things, her heart would become a tangled mess of emotions.
Suddenly, Zhou Ang moved, startling Wen Zaao, prompting her to stand up quickly. Her heart beat anxiously, her eyes locked on Zhou Ang, fearful that he’d wake up the next second.
Zhou Ang’s eyelashes trembled slightly, causing Wen Zaao to swallow hard. She knew Zhou Ang was about to wake up, so she quickly said to the nursing lady, "Auntie, I have something to do, so I’m leaving first. Please take good care of him, and call me if anything happens."
Without waiting for the nursing lady to say anything, Wen Zaao quickly fled from the room and only stopped when she reached the stairway, clutching her chest and panting heavily.
Shortly after she left, Zhou Ang slowly opened his eyes, vaguely feeling he heard Wen Zaao’s voice, but upon opening his eyes and looking around, he didn’t see any sign of Wen Zaao.
His eyes filled with a sense of loss, and his heart felt a twinge of disappointment.
"Mr. Zhou, you’re awake?" The nursing lady said with a cheerful smile, "How unfortunate, you just woke up, and Lady Wen left already."
Zhou Ang’s eyes brightened, and he quickly looked at the nursing lady, asking, "Did Zaozao come?"
"Yes, Lady Wen even went to East Alley specifically to buy porridge for you. She said it’s your favorite."
Zhou Ang looked in the direction the nursing lady pointed, seeing the packaging on the table, the familiar packaging, the familiar words. It was the nutritious porridge from East Alley, which he loved.
"Did she say anything?" Zhou Ang asked anxiously. Since she came to see him, did it mean she had forgiven him?
Zhou Ang tried to sit up, but the nursing lady quickly moved to hold him down, "Mr. Zhou, the doctor said you shouldn’t move around now."
"But I want to sit up."
Zhou Ang said weakly, "I’ve been lying in bed all day, it feels like my bones are about to fall apart."
The nursing lady still refused, "Mr. Zhou, your condition doesn’t suit random movements. If you want to sit, I’ll help adjust the bed, but you can’t move around. The doctor said you need to stay lying down."
Zhou Ang didn’t continue to be stubborn. He responded with an ’um’ and asked the nursing lady, "When did Zaozao leave?"
"Just a few seconds before you woke. She might not have gone far. Do you want me to call her back for you?"
The nursing lady felt a bit unfortunate too. Wen Zaao had come a few times, but Zhou Ang was always asleep, and they never had the chance to meet face-to-face or even exchange a word.
Zhou Ang pondered for a moment and shook his head, "No need, she probably had something urgent, that’s why she left in such a hurry."
He knew in his heart that even though Wen Zaao came to see him, she didn’t want to face him directly. Otherwise, she would have waited for him to wake up before leaving.
Since she was intentionally avoiding him, he didn’t want to force her to come back.
The nursing lady adjusted the bed head and then asked, "Mr. Zhou, would you like to eat now? I see the porridge that Lady Wen brought you is still warm."
Zhou Ang nodded, "Hmm, bring it over."
It had been a long time since he last drank the porridge from East Alley. Honestly, he did miss that flavor.
The nursing lady handed the porridge to Zhou Ang and then asked, "Mr. Zhou, what is your relationship with Lady Wen? I notice she often looks at you, lost in thought; you must have a special relationship, right?"
Zhou Ang was about to drink the porridge, but when he heard the nursing lady’s words, he paused and then nodded, "Indeed, we have an unusual relationship."
They were like brother and sister who grew up together, although not related by blood, as close as siblings.
Recently, though, he didn’t know what happened; things suddenly changed to how they were now. Just earlier, he was wondering if, had he not been hospitalized, Wen Zaao wouldn’t even want to see him.
Thinking this, another wave of disappointment washed over his eyes.
The nursing lady didn’t notice Zhou Ang’s spirit sinking deeper; she continued to chat, "But I think you and Lady Wen look like a good couple."
Zhou Ang sipped the porridge slowly; it still tasted the same, but drinking it stirred a bit of an odd feeling.
He thought for a moment, then took out his phone, opened WeChat, and found Wen Zaao’s chat. The last message was from three days ago, a brief span where everything suddenly turned strange.
He typed a line of text in the chatbox, "The porridge is still the same taste, thank you."
He pressed send.
Zhou Ang didn’t expect Wen Zaao to reply, but after placing the phone aside, he frequently glanced over at it.
When Wen Zaao received the message, she was in the car, holding her phone and staring at the word ’thank you.’ Those two words pierced her like a needle.
