Chapter 1673: Chapter 1659
Wen Zaao fell asleep on the desk, and when she woke up, it was the soreness in her arms and neck that roused her.
She rubbed her aching neck and slowly sat up, glanced at the time; it was already past two in the morning.
"Why did I fall asleep on the desk?"
Wen Zaao muttered quietly to herself and picked up a cup wanting to drink some water, only to find the water was cold.
She got up, walked out of the room, and went to the kitchen to pour herself a cup of hot water.
Upon coming out, she noticed Chu Ge’s room was still lit, the door half-open, yellow light spilling through the gap. Curiously, Wen Zaao walked towards it, slightly pushed the door open, and saw Chu Ge sitting at the desk, looking at something.
Chu Ge sensed an intrusion behind him and abruptly turned his head, his dark gaze locking onto Wen Zaao.
An aura of coldness came upon her, Wen Zaao covered her chest, gave him a sheepish smile, "It’s me, you’re still awake?"
Chu Ge restrained his sharpness, responded with a faint "Hm," and turned back to continue his work.
Wen Zaao curiously walked over, "What are you looking at?"
She came closer, realizing it was a map, only it wasn’t the usual world map, but a rather large one.
"Why are you looking at the world map?"
Wen Zaao asked, puzzled.
"I’ve already gone over the map of China; according to your map’s scale, I’ve calculated, and there’s no location for Wuling Mountain."
Chu Ge spoke in a flat tone.
Wen Zaao’s eyes widened in shock as she looked at Chu Ge, "What did you just say?"
Oh my God, how come she never realized Chu Ge was this smart before? She excitedly walked to the side of the table, leaned over, propped up her chin, curiously looked at Chu Ge, and asked, "How did you come up with that idea?"
Chu Ge cast a cold glance at her, "You think everyone is like you? Dumb as a pig, of course, it’s using brains."
"..." Wen Zaao twitched her lips, she scoffed, "Knowing you’re smart, there’s no need for such personal attacks."
Chu Ge ignored her and continued to search the map with a magnifying glass.
Wen Zaao noticed that Chu Ge’s map was different than the usual ones they saw, this map seemed more precise, even many famous mountain ranges and ravines were depicted.
"Where did you get this map from?"
Wen Zaao asked with curiosity.
"Bought it from a street stall."
Chu Ge replied blandly.
"..." Wen Zaao stood there without saying anything, bought from a street stall? Doesn’t that make it the same as the ones she’s seen before? But today, why does this map seem noticeably different?
Was she hallucinating? Or was it because she never really observed a map before.
"What are you looking for with a magnifying glass?"
Wen Zaao couldn’t help but ask again after watching for half the day.
"Finding the address is impossible, I thought of using the terrain structure of Wuling Mountain to search instead."
Chu Ge said while looking, "But after years of tectonic activity, these mountain ranges have changed accordingly, whether they can be found is a whole other matter."
He had been searching for almost three hours, from the map of China to the world map, meticulously seeking any place with ravines.
Wen Zaao looked at Chu Ge as if seeing an idiot; she had just praised him for being smart, now how come he started acting muddled again.
"This world map only marks very famous mountain ranges and ravines, what if Wuling Mountain is just a small hill? It surely wouldn’t appear on the map."
Chu Ge looked up at her, his eyes flashing with confusion, apparently, he hadn’t considered this.
Wen Zaao straightened up, made a clicking sound, and said in a mocking tone, "I thought you were so smart."
After speaking, she clicked her tongue then turned and left Chu Ge’s room.
Before leaving, she didn’t forget to wave to Chu Ge, saying, "Rest early, doing this useless effort is less effective than sleeping early. Try to think of other more useful ways in the morning."
She hadn’t noticed the dangerous sharpness emanating from Chu Ge’s eyes as she returned to her room, feeling inexplicably good.
She walked to the desk, ready to put away the diary and go to sleep.
The diary, being so old, was damaged in many places, but Wen Zaao was still very careful in taking care of it.
Wen Zaao looked at the yellowed notebook, her previously happy mood gradually becoming depressed. She always felt that she was facing a puzzle, a massive puzzle, and now finding the location of Wuling Mountain meant finding the opening to this puzzle. As for what can be opened inside, what truth can be revealed, it’s unknown.
She’s not one who worries excessively; she wouldn’t think too much before things actually happen, now the priority was finding where Wuling Mountain is.
She took a deep breath, relieved her emotions, then opened the drawer to place the diary inside.
Unexpectedly, a corner of the diary was accidentally knocked off, causing a piece of skin to fall; Wen Zaao squatted down heartachingly to pick up the skin, but crouched too fast, her forehead hit the corner of the table.
Painfully she sat on the floor, covered her forehead, and let out a hiss.
The diary also fell to the ground, the binding line broke, the diary split into two halves.
Tears of pain welled up in Wen Zaao’s eyes, her vision blurred, she looked at the diary on the ground, a surge of grievance overwhelmed her heart. She didn’t know why, but she suddenly wanted to cry, wanted to have a good cry.
Outside, Chu Ge must have heard the commotion from the room, he knocked on the door and asked, "Wen Zaao, are you okay?"
His inquiry made Wen Zaao cry even harder.
Chu Ge heard the crying, directly pushed open the door, seeing Wen Zaao sitting on the ground, sobbing sorrowfully, hugging the damaged diary, he walked over, squatted, and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Wen Zaao didn’t respond to him, just continued to cry.
Chu Ge’s gaze fell to the diary in her arms, noticing the damage, frowned slightly, "It’s just a broken diary, it can be repaired, is it worth crying over like this?"
As soon as he spoke, he received a glare from Wen Zaao, "What do you understand! This is the only thing my father left me!"
Wen Zaao’s voice mixed with sobs.
Chu Ge said nothing; he reached out to take the diary from her arms, only to have the back of his hand slapped by Wen Zaao, making a harsh sound.
"What are you doing?" Wen Zaao’s eyes widened, like a little puppy protecting her food.
Chu Ge smiled slightly, "I can help you repair it, whether you want to or not, it’s up to you."
Having said this, he stood up and quietly looked at her.
Wen Zaao looked at him with a puzzled gaze, "You can repair it? How can you repair this?"
"Back then, we didn’t have the high technology you have now, we repaired the damaged books ourselves."
Chu Ge explained, "Though I was a prince, I took great care of books, and learned quite a lot of repair skills from the masters."
