Chapter 1668: Chapter 1654
Chu Ge let out a soft laugh. "You really think what I care about is that gold medal?"
Wen Zaozao lifted her eyes to look at him and gave a cold snort. "Isn’t it? You talk about it all day long like you’re afraid someone will snatch it from you. Isn’t it just a lousy gold medal? What’s so great about it!"
She clicked her tongue in disdain. That gold medal had come through time along with Chu Ge. Although Chu Ge was from three thousand years ago, the gold medal wasn’t.
Even now, at most you could only sell it for its gold and get a bit extra. It wasn’t worth much money, yet Chu Ge still treated it like a treasure.
Chu Ge didn’t want to haggle with Wen Zaozao. He untied his apron himself, tossed it onto Wen Zaozao, and said, "Hurry up and cook. I’m starving to death."
Wen Zaozao was choked by Chu Ge’s words. She let out a dry "heh." "I still have things I want to ask you."
She put the apron aside and chased after him. "I have a few questions I want to ask you."
Chu Ge walked over and sat down on the sofa, his long legs crossed. "What questions?"
He asked coolly.
Seeing him like this, Wen Zaozao curled her lip, hesitating over how to phrase her question more appropriately.
After all, she wanted to ask him about his death. The guy was still alive and kicking right now. If she just blurted out and asked whether he died or not, that was basically asking to be beaten up.
Chu Ge looked up and saw her standing there, hesitating and stammering. His handsome brows arched slightly. "What’s wrong? It’s that hard to say?"
Wen Zaozao gave an awkward smile. "It’s not that it’s hard to say, I just feel a little embarrassed. The question’s kind of awkward."
"Since it’s so awkward and makes you feel embarrassed, then don’t ask. Swallow it back down."
"..."
The corner of Wen Zaozao’s eye twitched. Chu Ge’s mouth was really vicious!
Since Chu Ge wasn’t being polite, she wouldn’t be either. Wen Zaozao plopped herself right down on the sofa. Besides, this was her house—what did she have to be embarrassed about! Seriously!
Wen Zaozao took a deep breath. She turned her head to look at Chu Ge and, mimicking his posture, crossed her legs. "I wanted to ask you where you people from the royal family are usually buried after you die?"
Chu Ge looked at her in puzzlement. "What does that have to do with the clues for getting me back?"
"..." Wen Zaozao pressed her lips together and looked at him. Suddenly something came to her. Her big, black, shiny eyes rolled, a sly light flashing in them. "Of course it’s related. The tomb you were buried in back then could very likely have something to do with the way for you to go back."
Chu Ge frowned at her. "How do you know that?"
"I..." Wen Zaozao was at a loss for words. She couldn’t very well say she’d made it up, right?
"I actually never told you this, but my father studied you before." With no other choice, Wen Zaozao pulled her father out as a shield.
"Studied me?"
Chu Ge looked at her curiously. "Studied what about me? And anyway, what is there about me to study?"
"Strictly speaking, he didn’t study you, he studied your tomb."
Wen Zaozao enunciated each word, her tone casual, like she was bragging about something.
Chu Ge understood. The corner of his lips curled into a cold sneer. "So he was a grave robber."
"Grave robber?" Wen Zaozao immediately bristled when she heard that. "I really don’t like the way that sounds. What do you mean, grave robber? My father has never taken a single cent from any tomb!"
Chu Ge gave a cool little laugh. "Really? Then tell me, if he wasn’t after the treasure in the tomb, what was he after? Don’t tell me he purely wanted to go in and take a look at what my tomb looks like. Isn’t that a bit inappropriate?"
Wen Zaozao was rendered speechless by him. Her cheeks flushed red with anger; she sat there like someone had pumped her full of air.
"I was wondering why you were being so kind. Turns out Miss Wen wants to use this chance to go see my tomb and check what’s inside, right?"
Chu Ge stood up and walked toward Wen Zaozao step by step, slowly closing in.
An oppressive, king-like aura instantly spread around Wen Zaozao. She scooted back, but there was nowhere left to retreat to. "What are you trying to do?"
She swallowed hard, her voice tinged with nervousness.
Suddenly, Chu Ge bent down. He braced one hand on the arm of the sofa, looking down at her from above. "What do you think I’m trying to do? What do you think I’m capable of doing?"
He lifted his hand, his cool fingers slowly raising and sliding lightly down along her cheek. The icy touch made Wen Zaozao’s body go taut. She pressed her lips together, her body as if frozen in place, not daring to move an inch.
"I’m warning you, don’t you dare try anything funny!"
Wen Zaozao’s tongue was starting to tremble.
Chu Ge’s lips quirked faintly. "You think I’d do something to you? Have some ulterior motives toward you?"
As he spoke, his gaze casually flicked to Wen Zaozao’s chest, a hint of disdain in his eyes—clearly saying her chest was too small and he wasn’t interested.
Wen Zaozao was completely enraged by that look. She deliberately puffed out her chest, signaling him to open his eyes and look carefully. Her chest was not small! It was very big!
Chu Ge was amused by her childish behavior. He shook his head lightly, let out a snort of laughter, then sat back down on the sofa. "Alright, I’ll stop teasing you. If things are really like you said, and my tomb has an important connection to whether I can go back, I can tell you where my tomb is."
Wen Zaozao was stunned, staring at him in shock.
Chu Ge knew what she was thinking. He smiled faintly. "Rein in that wild imagination of yours. The location of our tombs isn’t like what you see on TV. There’s no so-called imperial mausoleum. When you’re born, your parents pick out a tomb for you. That’s the rule where I’m from."
"..." Wen Zaozao was speechless. That rule was really bizarre. Picking out a tomb for yourself the moment you’re born—wasn’t that basically wishing for your own death?
What Wen Zaozao didn’t know was that in their era, it was a time of war—endless battles. Once you turned sixteen you had to go off to the battlefield. When you’d return, whether you’d return, was no longer up to them. Everything depended on Heaven’s will.
That was why they set the rule that you picked out your tomb as soon as you were born.
Wen Zaozao gave a soft cough. She didn’t actually know whether Chu Ge’s tomb really had anything to do with whether he could go back, but in order to find the reason behind her father’s disappearance back then, she had no choice.
She had to coax and trick Chu Ge, had to get him to take her to his tomb.
"Then hurry up and tell me, where is your tomb?"
Wen Zaozao asked curiously.
Chu Ge pondered for a moment, rubbing his chin and pretending to think. A long while passed and he still wouldn’t say where it was, which made Wen Zaozao so anxious she was about to jump.
But Wen Zaozao couldn’t snap at him, so she could only go along with his temperament and humor him. "Chu Ge, just say it already, where is your tomb?"
Seeing how unhurried Chu Ge was, Wen Zaozao was practically dying of anxiety.
"Times have changed now. I don’t know if the historical names are the same as the names you use now."
