Chapter 1664: Chapter 1650
"It’s quite good."
Ye Liang laughed and teased, "I see you’ve had a good rest too."
Chu Ge stretched his muscles, glanced at the darkening sky, and said, "Yeah, I haven’t had such a peaceful nap in ages."
He now fully treated himself like an ordinary person, except for his unwavering morning exercises. Other times, he acted like a regular person unless danger arose, revealing his true skills.
"It’s really rare for someone who cultivates to achieve such a relaxed realm like yours."
Ye Liang walked beside Chu Ge, and the two headed toward the front hall.
"Actually, it’s not that hard. In our current time-space, I have a very open-minded senior around me."
He was referring to Jian Chunqiu, and he knew that Jian Chunqiu was not the only open-minded person; there were also Dao Liu and many other seniors. Still, he didn’t know why, perhaps because Ye Liang deceived him today, he never felt too inclined to reveal too much to her.
Ye Liang shot a slight glance at Chu Ge, taking advantage of the faint moonlight. She admired the sexy contours of Chu Ge’s profile, especially his deep eyes, which sparkled with tiny points of light.
Chu Ge sensed someone watching him and slightly turned his gaze to meet hers. "What’s the matter? Is there something on my face?"
Ye Liang felt caught in the act and sheepishly withdrew her gaze, gently shaking her head. "No, it’s nothing."
Chu Ge slightly curled his lips, "If you have something to say, you can say it directly."
"Ah?" Ye Liang lifted her eyes to him, "Why do you think I have something to say to you?"
She did have something to say, but she wasn’t sure how or if she should say it.
"Just a hunch."
Chu Ge said quietly.
Ye Liang lowered her gaze, watching the ground beneath her feet, her lips curled into a self-mocking smile, "Your intuition is really sharp."
Chu Ge glanced at her, her voice was small, he didn’t quite catch it, "What did you just say?"
Ye Liang looked up at him, quickly shaking her head, "No, nothing."
She smiled awkwardly, pondered for a moment, and asked, "Speaking of which, how long do you plan to stay here?"
Chu Ge shook his head, "I have some personal matters to deal with, so I can’t say for sure."
Ye Liang wanted to delve deeper but thought of the personal matters that Chu Ge mentioned. If she continued to probe, even if she didn’t arouse suspicion, it wouldn’t be nice.
She held back the question she wanted to ask.
Chu Ge arrived at the Old Mansion, and Luo Qi prepared a small courtyard for him because of his status.
Just as they approached the courtyard entrance, Chu Ge suddenly remembered Little Shunzi. He turned to Ye Liang and said, "Wait for me here, I’ll go get Little Shunzi."
Ye Liang nodded.
At that moment, Feng Luo, having not seen Chu Ge and Ye Liang come for some time and feeling too hungry, couldn’t resist and went directly to find them.
As she approached the courtyard entrance, she saw Ye Liang standing there.
Feng Luo paused for a moment, finding her somewhat familiar.
Ye Liang hadn’t expected someone to appear suddenly. She smiled at Feng Luo and said, "Hello."
A modern greeting.
Feng Luo squinted slightly, suddenly remembering. This was the person she met with Little Shunzi at the pavilion previously!
Feng Luo was astonished; she hadn’t expected her to come to their Beggar Gang.
"Are you Chu Ge’s friend they mentioned today?"
Feng Luo curiously asked.
Ye Liang nodded, "That’s me. I’m really sorry for causing you trouble."
Feng Luo waved her hand, "You’re no trouble at all. Our Beggar Gang has plenty of rooms, stay wherever you like. But I’m just curious, how did you and Chu Ge meet?"
Ye Liang was taken aback, looking at Feng Luo in confusion. "Ah?"
She hadn’t expected Feng Luo to ask this right off the bat, and she sensed a hint of animosity in Feng Luo’s words.
This was not only her instinct as an assassin but also as a woman. She felt that the person in front of her wasn’t very welcoming toward her arrival.
Soon, Chu Ge and Little Shunzi came out of the room, and Little Shunzi felt somewhat awkward seeing Ye Liang.
"I’ve been waiting for you forever; I’m starving."
Feng Luo complained to Chu Ge as she spoke, her eyes sweeping over Ye Liang and Little Shunzi before landing on Chu Ge.
Chu Ge also hadn’t expected Feng Luo to come, and he looked at her, "You’re okay?"
Feng Luo huffed, "What could be wrong with me!"
After she said it, she turned and left.
The dinner was quite awkward; Little Shunzi, usually the most talkative at the table, didn’t say a word tonight, as if he was mute.
Normally, Feng Luo would compete with Chu Ge over food, but this time, she ate quietly, occasionally glancing at Ye Liang and Little Shunzi.
Eventually, the atmosphere grew unbearably tense until Luo Qi broke the silence.
"Miss Ye, our Beggar Gang can’t compare to Marquis Ye Mansion. Are the dishes to your liking?"
Luo Qi asked with a grin.
Ye Liang nodded politely and replied, "It’s already very good, thank you for your generous hospitality, Boss Luo."
"I wouldn’t call it generous..."
Luo Qi hadn’t finished his sentence when Feng Luo suddenly asked, "What did you just say?"
"What did I say?" Luo Qi was puzzled, not understanding what she meant.
"You just said she’s from where? Marquis Ye Mansion?"
Feng Luo’s face darkened.
Ye Liang looked at her with a puzzled expression, sensing her anger. She was bewildered, "Does Miss Feng Luo have any animosity toward our Marquis Ye Mansion?"
Feng Luo sneered, "It’s not me who’s hostile toward your Marquis Ye Mansion; it’s you targeting our Beggar Gang! Just can’t fathom how a young lady from Marquis Ye Mansion would have the nerve to come to us!"
Ye Liang was rendered speechless by this. She truly didn’t know about the Marquis targeting the Beggar Gang. As for the affairs of Marquis Ye Mansion, she never inquired; even if she tried, she wouldn’t be told anything.
After all, she was just a figurehead as the young lady. Even if she wished to assert her authority, there were those she simply couldn’t move.
Ye Liang sat there awkwardly, silently putting down her chopsticks.
"Feng Luo, don’t talk nonsense."
Seeing the mood suddenly dampen, Luo Qi hurriedly spoke up to smooth things over, "Miss Ye, don’t mind Feng Luo; she’s young and used to being careless in our Beggar Gang, blurting things out without thought. Don’t mind her, please."
He paused and continued, "I know that Marquis Ye Mansion works for Prince He Shuo; it’s a matter of position. At the core, it’s the issue between us and the royal family, not something to blame on your Marquis Ye Mansion."
