Chapter 186: Gala End: Hannah

It took a while, but Roman and I eventually managed to enjoy the night again. We danced, we drank, we snacked hor d’ouerves, we switched to water to keep our wits about us, and we studied the art as it hung on the wall, each piece with a little "SOLD" label on it.

If it hadn’t been for the incident, it would have been a perfect evening. Honestly, it would have been. The people were all having fun, we had made what seemed to be a great nest egg for the nonprofit, the food had been delicious, and it had all gone off without a hitch or scene. No one fought, no one vomited, or anything else.

By the time the hall was about empty, I started trying to clean up. It seemed like the best way to keep my hands and mind busy.

"What do you think you’re doing?" Roman asked as he approached, a beer in his hand. As I stacked plates, he gently placed a hand over mine. "Let’s let the staff get that. It’s what they are getting paid for."

"I don’t mind helping," I muttered, continuing to stack them.

"We can head home now. Let’s go on, it seems like we’ve avoided the bulk of the traffic."

It was then, when faced with the option of going home, that I realized the reason I was cleaning was to linger there a little longer.

I didn’t want to go home. I didn’t want to make the drive home, in the dark. I wanted to stay there, with all the people of downtown, and continue to feel safe, surrounded by people.

However, I reminded myself that nothing had ever happened at the house. Most of the security detail would be coming back to the house with us. Things were going to be fine.

After I cleared my mind and soothed my nerves a little, I nodded and joined him. He linked arms with me and guided me out of the event hall.

When we stepped outside, we saw Freddy helping Lauren into the back of an Uber.

He shot us a shy look.

"I’ll make sure she gets home safely," he called to us.

"Water board her if you have to to make sure she hydrates," Roman called back.

The two men shared a little chuckle before we continued on our way.

I peered up at Roman. "All in all, do you think the night was a success?"

He smiled softly and nodded. "I do. Even though there was a... hiccup... it was nice. I think it was definitely needed." He grinned. "I can’t wait to see how those pictures Lauren got for us turned out."

"I forgot all about those!" I exclaimed with a little laughter of my own.

They were sure to be fantastic, artsy, and completely ridiculous.

"We’ll have to order prints and frame them."

"Definitely," he smiled.

"So, success with no stipulations?" I asked him, recalling to a conversation earlier in the night.

He smiled and nodded. "Success with no stipulations."

He cleared his throat as we neared the car and turned to me. "I got something a little celebratory in preparation. Might be a little silly, but I had one after my first business success."

I raised a brow at him.

He reached into his breast pocket and produced a cigar. "We can take some celebratory puffs on the way home. It’d be a shame not to have any. It’s Cuban."

I smiled and nodded. "Sounds good to me."

Getting into the back seat, the door shut behind us, and we proceeded to roll down the windows as Roman lit the cigar and puffed on it to get it going.

I couldn’t help but take notice of just how handsome and striking he was. He looked like a true businessman from the fifties with the fat cigar between his lips. He was almost too handsome to be true.

He handed it over to me, and I shyly took a drag. I coughed a little, but by the second attempt, I felt better.

We blew smoke out the windows as we crawled through downtown. The roads were all clogged and cluttered, but we didn’t mind. We listened to Liability by Lorde coming through the car stereo and lounged and smoked the cigar. It was a sort of surreal feeling, reminding me more of a dream sequence than real life.

The lyrics once again hit home with me, leaving my eyes a bit misty. I did feel like a liability, but I knew it was nothing of my own doing.

Roman held my hand and tapped his foot to the song as he blew smoke rings. I asked him how to do that, and he talked me through the technique of it. I was handed the cigar, and I did my best to do what he said. He coached me through it until I managed to blow a perfect circle out of the car window. I grinned as I handed it back to him.

I was so appreciative of our bond. Making the most of every little moment.

Eventually, we put the cigar out so we didn’t get sick from it, since we didn’t smoke regularly. The car ride took far longer than it usually would because of traffic, but I didn’t mind. We did eventually arrive home, and we grabbed water bottles before heading up to the room.

The first thing I did was brush my teeth, the taste of the cigar in my mouth making me a bit queasy. Then, I stepped out of the fabulous dress.

When I looked into the bathroom mirror, Roman was standing behind me, watching me in the mirror.

His arms wrapped about me. "You’re beautiful," he whispered.

"So are you," I smiled.

As I turned to face him, his lips captured mine. "I’m just so glad you’re safe," he muttered.

"I’m glad we both are," I breathed. I touched his face and looked him deep in the eyes. "One of these days, this will all be behind us."

"I thought it already was," he whispered.

"I don’t think anything is that simple," I replied. "One day, we will never have to think about this again, except when we think about our origin story."

"Origin story? Who are we, Batman?" he asked with a chuckle.

"Might as well be," I smiled.

He sighed happily and brought me into him. "I love you, Hannah."

"I love you too," I replied.

We shared a kiss before getting in the shower.

Only, his hands never left me. As I lathered myself, his hands roamed over my sides and groped me. Before long, I found myself getting flustered by his touch. When his hand drifted down between my legs, I groaned freely.

Maybe we had gotten a little predictable, but I didn’t mind. There was nothing more comforting to me than his touch after such a stressful and weird time.

I felt his member press into my hip. I reached down and stroked him, my grip lubricated by the water and suds. We continued to fool around for the duration of the shower, hormones filling the space just as much as the steam from the water. We stepped out of the shower, hands and mouths all over one another.

As I thought we were going to find our way over to the bed, he surprised me by moving to the counter. He bent me over, our eyes locking in the mirror. He spread my legs and continued to finger me slowly. I moaned and kept my eyes on his as I asked, "Please, give it to me?"

He bit his lip and positioned himself behind me. He pressed into me.

His hand went to my back and guided me to bend over more, hiking my hips up into a more favorable angle. Then, he was thrusting into me at just the right angle. When I went to lay my head down, he slapped my ass. Our eyes locked again in the mirror. He wanted me to watch too.

I watched as my chest heaved with every thrust. I watched him pant. I was dizzied from pleasure. Before long, I was begging him for harder thrusts. I wanted him to take me roughly. I wanted to be reminded just how much I was his. He was the only one that could touch me. I was safe with him, and this was our proof.

The front of my thighs were flush with the vanity as he pumped into me frantically. We were moaning together. I felt myself tighten around him. I indicated to him to keep doing that. Before long, I was lost in an avalanche of an orgasm. I clutched to the bathroom counter. As he kept on, I felt myself building to another.

He stopped just long enough to turn me around and lift me, and carry me to the room. I couldn’t get enough of him, even in the wake of ecstasy, I wanted more. I threw me onto the bed and crawled once again between my legs.

We made love all night, bringing one another endless pleasure. It was our greatest comfort and our greatest distraction. I was so thankful for him.
