Chapter 256: Debt paid

Zen looked up, silently staring at the sky for a bit before Theia appeared next to him

"I hope you haven’t decided to blind yourself out of grief"

"..."

He looked down and at his watch.

It was getting late.

He had one more thing to take care of today.

A few minutes later, he was in front of Tim’s office.

He knocked a few times before coming in.

Tim looked up from the papers he had his face buried in to see who it was.

"Zen. I assume you’re here because of the errand you were given"

He nodded

"It’s done. I don’t know where she is"

"I see. In that case I’ll speak to her. You can go"

He didn’t say anything and just turned around to leave.

A few seconds after Zen left, Tim sighed, looking to the side

"Are you satisfied?"

Celia suddenly appeared there out of thin air

"Hmmm, interesting"

*********

On the way to his dorm, Zen started thinking.

It would cost him nothing to say that everything special or unnatural in this school was somehow connected to him,as most people in his situation would, but when he really thought about it,he wasn’t exactly an exception,or important.

Even without him here, things would still be just as weird.

He reached his dorm and as the door opened, he saw Xavier standing there.

"Oh, hey dude. Your...um... friend showed up"

He looked towards his bed and saw a familiar slender green skinned girl lying on his bed like it was hers.

Xavier leaned closer and whispered

"She just showed up and walked in like she owned the place. Then she said you sent her"

The wind spirit casually looked at him for a second and went back to relaxing.

"We came back a while ago. I figured instead of running around after you,we could just wait here"

Xavier didn’t know about Moirai so he was a bit confused when she said "We"

Zen just walked in

"She’s fine. Let her in whenever she wants"

He looked around and noticed Neo and Maximilian were missing.

"Oh, they’re with your Hydra gang. Max is helping them investigate and Neo said he was just going there for the food.

"Right "

That reminded him. He had wanted to ask Zaria something but hadn’t found the time, after all,it involved a dead body he was keeping in his shadow dimension.

He suddenly heard Syl from his bed

"What sort of moron takes the lower bunk anyway. So uncomfortable "

She complained with her eyes closed

"And before you ask,yes I got that wretched creature off my tail . We made sure of it "

Zen didn’t respond, still thinking

Xavier suddenly remembered something and brought out a box.

"Right. Giovanni dropped this off for you. Said you asked for it"

Zen took it, already knowing what was inside.

Curious, Syl opened one eye and floated off the bed

Zen felt her slender arms wrap around his neck as she peeked from behind, ignoring her ears poking his face. She was too short so she still had to float above the ground

"Hmmm, interesting. What’s this for?"

She said, looking at the box

He ignored her and opened it.

"Hm??? I didn’t know you liked this kind of weapon "

He didn’t. It wasn’t for him, and it was Zyro who had requested Gio get this.

Moirai suddenly materialized and sensing its intension, Zen allowed it to scan the weapon.

A few seconds later

[Ding!]

[Blueprint gained]

[You can now craft this in the store]

Once it was done, Moirai disappeared, satisfied.

That was handy.

Theia had told him that while Astrals didn’t have a hive mind, they had the closest thing

A codex.

It was basically the internet connected directly to every single one of them. Its one purpose was to hold information about everything and anything, essentially it was shared memory.

That was why it could get it’s own personal guardian,it was just that important.

Right now the only other person Moirai was connected to was Jade so it didn’t have much yet, but Theia guaranteed that it would become one of his greatest assets.

Being able to scan blueprints for gear was also handy since GK had at some point limited his shop without telling him. He didn’t mind though,in fact it might have been a good thing. Unfiltered access to millions and millions of things across multiple worlds could overwhelm even him.

"So If it’s not for you. Who is it for?"

Zen wondered if he’d still be up. This had all been Zyro’s doing, but since it was already here, he might as well.

Checking his watch, he started walking out

"Oh, right... keep an eye on her"

He said to Xavier about Syl as he left.

Although he considered this unnecessary, he understood keeping a promise and repaying debts.

Didn’t mean he had to do it though

His steps got lighter and a bit more upbeat, feet lightly tapping on the ground.

Looking higher, his intense golden eye was incredibly eye catching, like a miniature sun on his face.

A few minutes of skipping through the halls and he finally reached his destination.

He gently knocked a few times and waited for a response.

A few seconds passed and he heard movement behind the door.

A familiar face came into view as it opened

"Oh, Ben. Lucky me, I’d hoped it wasn’t one of your roommates"

"You."

Ben froze, his brows furrowing

"Glad to see I made an impression"

"What do you want,a fight?"

"Uh,no"

Zyro answered immediately.

Ben was the most skilled student in instructor Virgil’s class. In his current state, that wasn’t a fight even he wanted.

"I brought something for you. Since I broke your old one. Remember,I said I’d replace it"

Ben raised a brow. What was this weirdo talking about.

"Just take a look"

He said opening the box for Ben to look down into it

The cylindrical base looked like it was made out of silver with a ripple design all over it’s body with a gold ring somewhere near the handle which curved over where the knuckles would be, guardian them

The bottom and top of the baton had a conical spike that was entirely blue and seemed to glow a bit.

They’re called leviathan but you probably have a better name for these

Ben scrutinized the tonfas sitting in the box for a few seconds before looking away

"Not interested"

"What? Why?"

He said, stopping the door from closing.

"Cuz I don’t want any favors. Now beat it"

"This is quite literally the opposite. You did me a favor and I’m paying it back"

The two struggled with the door for a bit

"Come on. I already got it. Why are you so convinced I’m some rich brat?"

"Ben scoffed

"Why else would you be hanging out with pioneer kids"

Right... the pioneers were known by all, that didn’t mean everyone liked them, and most times it was for good reason.

"That’s..."

"And what about the teachers too "

Shit, he’d forgotten about that. Not only had multiple teachers and the dean showed him favoritism, the video Ava uploaded of him coming and going from Aurora’s office didn’t help his case in the slightest .

Zyro sighed and stepped back

"That’s complicated, and i can talk about that later. But now..."

He offered the box again

"I know you can’t get a suitable replacement yet, and you know how high quality it is. Just take it,no strings attached, and if you ever feel like returning it,go ahead"

Ben stopped, thinking. He looked down at the tonfas again. He could tell that it was really good stuff but..."

He looked up at Zyro

"Fine "

He groaned, taking it.

"I hope it serves you well"

Ben nodded before closing the door

"You’re weird"

Syl said as he entered the room

He didn’t know if she had somehow been watching him or she meant just in general

"You needed weapons right? And here you are giving them away "

Zyro shrugged as he took a seat next to where she was laying down

"A promise is a promise. It didn’t cost me anything "

She rolled her eyes and shifted closer, cuddling up to his side

"How wise"

She remarked sarcastically.

Looking down at her, he suddenly asked

"Syl...why are you here? Why were you in a ring "

Without opening her eyes

"My old home sucked. I ran away and had to hide. The ring seemed like a good choice at the time "

"..."

That was the first time she ever answered that question truthfully

He looked at her and sighed, closing his eyes and waking up in the castle.

Looking down, he saw Syl sitting down on his lap, napping. Her little pale green feet didn’t even reach his, hanging in the air

’’Like a cat’’

He mused, looking around.

No one else was here right now.

Zaine should be torturing Jesse. Freya and Lilith should be somewhere in the library, and Zen...

"I wonder..."
