Chapter 1657: A Moonlit Meeting

Murong Bai continued giving Ling Feng and Tuoba Yan a few earnest reminders before finally leaving the room in a dispirited state.

It was obvious that the martial gathering atop Jue Tian Peak had dealt him an enormous blow. Otherwise, with his usual pride, there was no way he would have lowered himself enough to share information about those top experts with Ling Feng.

Though Murong Bai's character might not necessarily be all that admirable, he at least carried genuine sincerity toward the sect. On that point alone, he was already far better than that ungrateful white-eyed wolf Qin Zusheng.

After Murong Bai left, only Ling Feng and Tuoba Yan remained inside the room.

Ling Feng directly took out a bottle of Heaven-Incinerating Dragon Flame Essence and handed it over to Tuoba Yan.

"Yan'er, this Heaven-Incinerating Dragon Flame Essence is a sacred healing medicine. Injuries are unavoidable during the Sunset Heaven Selection, so keep this with you just in case."

"You still have an entire bottle left?"

Tuoba Yan's pupils shrank slightly. She stared deeply at Ling Feng before suddenly covering her mouth and laughing softly.

"Doesn't that mean Liu Donglin ate horse dung for nothing?"

"That guy was arrogant as hell. I just taught him a lesson."

Ling Feng shrugged carelessly.

People like Liu Donglin relied on a bit of talent and immediately acted like they were unrivaled beneath the heavens. Giving him a harsh beating today might actually benefit him in the future. If Liu Donglin could climb out of the psychological shadow and mature from it, perhaps he would even thank Ling Feng someday.

Of course, if he became obsessed with revenge instead, then he was doomed to fail for the rest of his life.

"That's true."

Tuoba Yan nodded thoughtfully.

Recently, Ling Feng's methods of messing with people had become increasingly creative. Clearly, he had been corrupted by that Despicable Donkey.

Sure enough, staying near vermilion turned one red, while staying near ink turned one black.

The two continued exchanging cultivation insights for some time. By the time dusk fully settled in, Tuoba Yan finally left Ling Feng's residence.

After she departed, silence gradually enveloped the night.

Only when everything had become completely quiet did a figure suddenly dart out from Ling Feng's room. In just a few swift movements, he leaped directly down from the peak belonging to the Dongling Immortal Pool.

Naturally, that figure was Ling Feng himself.

He had already arranged to meet Yue Huaqing, the saintess of Yunluo Sacred Land, at midnight in a relatively secluded area beneath the three great peaks.

Since this was only the first day after Long Xiao Sacred Mountain opened, most spectators had not yet arrived. The entire mountain region remained fairly quiet for now.

But once three more days passed and the Sunset Heaven Selection officially began, even hidden little forests would probably end up filled with martial artists camping overnight.

Not long after Ling Feng arrived, another graceful figure slowly descended beneath the moonlight.

The newcomer was naturally Yue Huaqing.

Ling Feng had already seen countless beauties throughout his life. His resistance toward beautiful women was far stronger than ordinary men's.

Yet Yue Huaqing still possessed a unique charm unlike anyone else.

Even Ling Feng could not help going momentarily blank as he watched her drifting toward him beneath the moonlight.

"Ahem!"

Ling Feng quickly coughed lightly and regained his senses.

To him, beauty was ultimately nothing more than flesh and bone beneath a pretty exterior.

"Fairy Yue!"

From afar, Ling Feng cupped his fists with a cheerful smile.

"It's been quite a while!"

Yue Huaqing landed lightly before him. Her beautiful eyes carefully examined Ling Feng from head to toe, as though trying to completely see through him.

Ling Feng rubbed his nose awkwardly and laughed dryly.

"Fairy Yue, is there a flower growing on my face or something?"

"Hehe!"

Yue Huaqing glared at him irritably.

"Ling Feng, you really are ruthless! Do you know what happened after Junior Brother Liu woke up? First he tried to kill himself, then he swore he'd definitely murder you someday. What you did this time was honestly too excessive!"

"And wasn't Liu Donglin excessive himself?"

Ling Feng shrugged indifferently.

"When he held the advantage, he trampled all over the disciples of Dongling Immortal Pool. I merely returned the favor in kind."

"I can't win against you in an argument."

Yue Huaqing shot him an annoyed look.

Truthfully, she had never liked Liu Donglin's behavior either. Ling Feng teaching him a lesson was not necessarily a bad thing.

Still, forcing someone to eat horse dung...

Only Ling Feng could come up with something like that.

"Hehe..."

Ling Feng laughed casually before pointing at the moon overhead.

"Well, the moonlight tonight is pretty nice. If there's nothing else, I'll head back first."

"Hmph!"

Yue Huaqing glared at him again.

"Hey, aren't you planning to return the thing I temporarily entrusted to you last time?"

Clearly, Yue Huaqing still naively believed Ling Feng had no idea that the treasure she gave him back then was actually the Yellow Emperor Seal.

"What thing?"

Ling Feng blinked innocently with wide, bright eyes.

"Does Fairy Yue mean those spirit infusion treasures? Wonderful items, truly wonderful! I'm extremely grateful!"

"Stop pretending!"

Yue Huaqing snorted softly.

"Besides that complete set of spirit infusion treasures, there was also a yellow jade seal. That item was left to me by my grandfather. It's extremely important to me, so please return it."

"Hehe..."

Ling Feng sneered inwardly.

This woman really could lie without even blushing.

Her grandfather's inheritance?

That thing was obviously stolen from the demon race's sacred land.

Still, Ling Feng did not expose her lie. Instead, he suddenly slapped his forehead and sighed heavily.

"Ah, so Fairy Yue means that item. Sigh..."

Ling Feng deliberately put on a deeply pained expression.

"I'm sorry, Fairy Yue, but I'm afraid I can't return it anymore."

"Hm?"

Yue Huaqing frowned sharply and glared at him.

"Ling Feng, don't push your luck too far! I already gave you so many rewards, and now you still want to swallow my ancestral treasure for yourself?"

"I swear by heaven and earth, I'm innocent!"

Ling Feng hurriedly replied.

"Fairy Yue, I may not be some noble gentleman, but I still have basic integrity. How could I possibly steal your treasure? You simply don't understand what happened afterward!"

Immediately afterward, Ling Feng let out a long sorrowful sigh and began speaking in a grief-stricken voice.

"After I returned to the demon race's sacred land with the item you gave me, I experienced the most terrible event of my entire life."

Ling Feng then recounted the story of how he had been jointly hunted down by the Big Nine Demon Emperors within the demon race's sacred land. In the end, Mu Qianxue had been forced to reveal her identity as a member of the divine race in order to save him.

He also spoke about how he had suffered fatal injuries and nearly died, only surviving because Mu Qianxue infused her divine blood into his body.

The only part he altered was the reason behind everything.

In his version of the story, the demon race had discovered the Yellow Emperor Seal on him.

"Sigh... how was I supposed to know what the Yellow Emperor Seal even was? Because of that thing, my identity was exposed even though I had hidden it perfectly. And because of it, the woman I love most can now only remain forever separated from me across distant horizons."

Ling Feng lowered his head painfully.

"My heart aches so much... sigh..."

As his emotions reached their peak, tears even welled up in his eyes.

The story itself was half true and half fabricated.

But the parts concerning Mu Qianxue contained not a single lie. Every word came straight from his heart.

After listening to the entire story, Yue Huaqing became deeply moved. Tears streamed down her face as she choked with sobs.

"I... I'm sorry! I never imagined I'd end up harming you this badly! Waaaah... sob... I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!"

Ling Feng secretly glanced sideways at her through the corner of his eye.

This woman had actually believed him completely.

Damn.

He really was a genius.
