Chapter 1493: Traitors Never Meet a Good End
"Everyone, run! We're under attack!"
He shouted desperately as he pushed forward in panic, his soul nearly leaving his body.
This was a narrow canyon that allowed only one person to pass at a time. If those ahead did not move quickly, he would have no way to escape!
That terrified shout startled those in front. They shoved one another, scrambling forward in chaos!
Lu Hui stumbled from the push behind her. Her expression changed as she cried out, "Senior Brother Yang! Wen... Wen Te is here! He is killing our people from the rear. We must withdraw from the canyon and form ranks to surround and kill him!"
With Yang Zhen present, and with dozens of them working together, even Wen Te would be doomed if they fought as a group.
Unfortunately, this was a canyon. There was no room to maneuver. They could only be picked off one by one.
Some tried to flee into the air, but were immediately ensnared by the vampire vines above. The more they struggled, the tighter the vines wrapped around them. Rows of bloodthorns pierced into their bodies, devouring their vitality.
In a short time, many of those who fled blindly had already been drained into dried corpses.
"Senior Brother Yang, hurry! Lead everyone out of the canyon!"
Lu Hui panicked. Behind her, one fellow disciple after another was being slaughtered by Wen Te with a single strike each time. Yet Yang Zhen at the front showed no reaction at all.
No, something feels off!
Strictly speaking, he was blocking the way ahead, sealing off their only path to survival!
Screams rose one after another from behind, yet Yang Zhen stood unmoving. With his back to them, he stood like an immovable mountain. No one could pass him.
"Move! The people in front have gone mad!"
"Run! He's coming! Ah!"
"Ahhh!"
Screams echoed endlessly.
The crowd descended into complete chaos. Those at the rear had no idea what was happening ahead. All they could do was curse, shout, urge others forward, complain, and scream. It became a living hell.
Even someone as slow to realize as Lu Hui finally understood...
The leader she trusted had betrayed them!
"Senior Brother Yang... w-why? We trusted you so much. And you... you betrayed us!"
Lu Hui clenched her fists in disbelief. He was one of the Heaven Slaying Ten Absolutes of the Hall of War. Why would he turn his blade against his own sect?
"Why? Yes, why indeed?"
The one who answered her was not Yang Zhen, but Yuwen Liang, who stood beside him.
"Because Yang Zhen is nothing more than my puppet!"
Yuwen Liang let out a sinister laugh. A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he said, "Yang Zhen, kill them!"
Upon hearing the command, Yang Zhen slowly turned around. His eyes held nothing but icy killing intent.
That was not the gaze of a normal person. At that moment, Yang Zhen was more like a puppet. A dark aura coiled around his face, as though he were still resisting something.
"So it was you behind all this!"
Lu Hui glared at Yuwen Liang and gritted her teeth. "Release your control over Senior Brother Yang!"
"No, no. It is not that I control him. His will was too weak. His anger clouded his mind. That is why my parasite was able to completely devour his consciousness."
Yuwen Liang's face twisted into a cruel smile.
"Well, at least you know the truth before dying. Now go to hell!"
"Yuwen Liang, I will kill you!"
Lu Hui launched a sudden attack. She wasn't weak, but Yuwen Liang had protective means at his side.
A cold blade pierced straight through her chest.
Pshhh!
Lu Hui turned her head, only to see that it was Yang Zhen. The man she trusted, admired, and respected had driven his sword through her heart without hesitation.
"Senior Brother Yang..."
She coughed up a mouthful of blood. Her final resistance faded as she sank into complete despair.
Even Yang Zhen had turned his blade against his own comrades. What awaited the remaining disciples was slaughter at the hands of two Heaven Slaying Ten Absolutes level experts!
"Ahh!"
Screams filled the canyon as blood stained the ground red.
A flicker of pain passed through Yang Zhen's eyes, but it vanished quickly. His will was completely devoured by the Witch Spirit Mind-Severing Parasite.
His anger toward Ling Feng had caused him to lose his reason and abandon his true self. At this point, there was no turning back.
"Hahaha..."
Seeing the corpses of the Hall of War disciples scattered across the ground, Wen Te felt a surge of satisfaction. Although the barbarians had suffered heavy losses, he had at least destroyed a group of the enemy's elites.
And now, he had gained a powerful puppet at his side!
"Lord Wen Te!"
Yuwen Liang stepped forward with a flattering smile. "My lord, how did I perform?"
"Excellent. Truly excellent! As a disciple of the Hall of War, you were ruthless enough to turn against your own people. Even I must admire such cruelty."
Wen Te patted Yuwen Liang on the shoulder with a faint smile.
"Hmph! What 'own people'? There are no eternal enemies, only eternal benefits. Do not forget what you promised me, Lord Wen Te!"
Yuwen Liang smiled greedily.
"Of course. You are a great contributor to us barbarians!"
Wen Te's gaze turned sharp as he looked at Yuwen Liang.
"But tell me, have you ever heard the saying that when the cunning rabbit dies, the hunting dog is cooked?"
"My lord, this is not the time for jokes. You still need me. I can help you deal with Song Feilian's group!"
Yuwen Liang's expression changed slightly as he instinctively retreated behind Yang Zhen. Having Yang Zhen as a puppet gave him some sense of security.
"No. What I need is Yang Zhen alone."
Wen Te let out a cold laugh.
"Did you really think I would hand complete control of Yang Zhen over to you? How naive!"
"You... what did you say!"
Yuwen Liang's eyes twitched violently. He shouted, "Y-Yang Zhen, kill him!"
But Yang Zhen did not move.
Instead, he turned slowly and fixed his cold gaze on Yuwen Liang.
"Let me teach you one final truth," Wen Te said coldly. "Traitors never meet a good end. That includes you."
With a flick of his hand, he gave a single command.
"Kill!"
Swoosh!
A streak of sword light flashed across Yuwen Liang's neck. Blood sprayed like a fountain.
With unwillingness and despair in his eyes, Yuwen Liang glared at Wen Te and roared, "Wen Te, you will not die a good death!"
"Hehe!"
Wen Te merely turned away, no longer sparing him another glance. He then waved at Yang Zhen, "Let's go!"
With his strength combined with Yang Zhen's, two Heaven Slaying Ten Absolutes level experts joining forces might still turn the situation around!
If the remaining demon race and Hall of War disciples clashed, the final victor would undoubtedly be him, Great Emperor Wen Te!
The Hunting Battlefield would last an entire month.
It was still far too early to say who would have the last laugh!
