Chapter 92: 092: The Real You
~ ROSELLE ~
I wake to my body burning from the inside out. It’s as though every inch of me has been thrown into a raging fire, the heat crawling beneath my skin until I can barely breathe. Sweat beads across my forehead and between my breasts, soaking the sheets beneath me. My heart pounds violently in my chest, desperate and relentless, as if something inside is trying to claw its way free.
My head feels like it’s on fucking fire. A sharp, throbbing pain pulses behind my eyes, making the morning light filtering through the curtains feel like needles stabbing into my skull. I groan, rolling onto my side, but even that small movement sends fresh waves of heat and discomfort crashing through me.
I reach blindly for my phone on the nightstand, my movements sluggish and uncoordinated. I don’t even know how long I’ve been lying in bed since last night. Ronan is nowhere to be found, he must have left early for work again, like he always does when duty calls. The emptiness of the bed beside me only makes the ache worse.
The light from the screen hits my eyes, making me squint as another wave of pain tears through my body. My fingers tremble as I scroll through my contacts and dial his number. It rings once. Twice. On the second ring, he picks up.
"Rose?" Ronan’s voice is immediate, warm but filled with concern. "Are you awake?"
I try to speak, but my voice comes out hoarse and painful, barely above a whisper. "Ronan..."
"What’s wrong?" His tone shifts instantly — sharp, urgent. I can hear him moving on the other end, the sound of footsteps and a door closing. "Talk to me, baby. I’m coming right now."
"My body... it’s just heating up," I manage, biting back a whimper as another surge of fire rolls through me. My thighs press together instinctively, the throbbing ache between them growing stronger, almost unbearable. "It hurts... everything feels too hot."
"Stay right there," he says, his voice tight with worry. "Hang on. I’m coming right away. Don’t move. I’ll be there in minutes."
The call ends, and I drop the phone onto the bed, curling into myself as I wait. The heat is relentless, crawling under my skin, making my nipples tighten and my core clench with need. I feel slick and empty, like my body is crying out for him to fill me, to soothe this fever only he can fix.
True to his word, the door bursts open less than five minutes later. Ronan rushes in, dressed in his dark shirt and pants from whatever meeting he’d been in. His grey eyes lock onto me immediately, widening with alarm as he takes in my flushed skin and trembling form.

"Roselle," he breathes, crossing the room in three long strides. He drops to his knees beside the bed, his large hand gently cupping my cheek. The moment his skin touches mine, I whimper. His touch feels both soothing and electrifying, sending sparks racing through my overheated body.
"You’re burning up," he murmurs, his thumb brushing my flushed cheek. His other hand moves to my forehead, then down to my neck, feeling the rapid pulse there. "Fuck, you’re shaking. We need to get you to Elias right now."
He doesn’t wait for me to respond. He scoops me up into his arms, cradling me against his chest as if I weigh nothing. I bury my face in his neck, inhaling his familiar scent, letting it ground me as another wave of heat makes me moan softly.
"Hold on, baby," he whispers, pressing a kiss to my temple as he carries me out of the room and toward the medical wing. "I’ve got you. Elias will know what to do."
The walk feels both too long and too short. My body is on fire, every brush of his shirt against my skin sending shivers through me. By the time we reach the medical wing, Elias is already waiting, Irina standing beside him with a concerned expression.
"Bring her here," Elias says urgently, gesturing to the examination table. "Lay her down."
Ronan gently sets me down, but he doesn’t let go of my hand, his fingers intertwined with mine as Elias begins checking my vitals. Irina moves quickly, preparing some instruments.
"She’s in the early stages of heat," Elias confirms after a quick examination, his brow furrowed. "Her temperature is elevated, and her wolf is pushing hard against the suppressant. The healing from yesterday accelerated it."
Irina nods, her light blue eyes scanning me with professional interest. "We need to monitor her closely. The heat could intensify quickly."
Ronan’s grip on my hand tightens, his jaw clenched with worry and protectiveness. "What do you need from me?"
"Stay with her," Elias says. "She’ll need you more than anything else right now."
I squeeze Ronan’s hand, my body trembling as another wave of heat crashes through me. He leans down, pressing his forehead to mine.
"I’m right here," he whispers. "I’m not going anywhere."
"Is she heating up?" she asks, her voice rising with urgency as she looks from me to Ronan.
Ronan’s hand tightens around mine. "She’s burning up."
Irina nods, but there’s something else in her expression, almost like she’s already pieced something together. She steps closer to the table, her gaze locking onto mine.
"I found some details in my research," she says, her voice low but firm. "Your body is heating up, but this isn’t just a normal heat cycle. Your wolf is battling to come forward. The suppressant is fighting back hard, and the healing from yesterday accelerated everything. That’s why it feels so intense right now."

She glances at Ronan and Elias. "I need you to give us space. I have to inject her with something to stabilize the symptoms for now."
Ronan’s jaw clenches. He looks down at me, clearly reluctant to leave. His thumb brushes over the back of my hand in a soothing motion.
"I’m not going anywhere," he says quietly.
Irina’s expression softens, but her tone remains professional. "Alpha, I understand. But this injection works best without external energy interference. Please, just for a few minutes."
Elias places a gentle hand on Ronan’s shoulder. "She’ll be fine. We’ll be right outside."
Ronan hesitates for a long moment, his grey eyes searching mine. I give him a small nod, even though my body is screaming for him to stay.
"Go," I whisper. "I’ll be okay."
He leans down and presses a firm kiss to my forehead, then another to my lips. "I’ll be right outside. If anything happens, call me."
With one last lingering look, he steps back. Elias follows him out, and the door closes behind them with a soft click. The room suddenly feels smaller, quieter.
Irina moves quickly, preparing a syringe from her medical bag. She sits on the edge of the examination table beside me, her expression kind but serious.
"How are you feeling right now?" she asks gently, her hand resting lightly on my arm.
"Like I’m on fire," I admit, my voice hoarse. "Everything hurts. My head... my body... it’s too much."
She nods, already swabbing a spot on my arm. "I know. This is going to help calm everything down for a little while. It won’t stop the heat completely, but it’ll give your body a chance to breathe."
I watch as she injects the cool liquid into my arm. Almost immediately, my entire body tenses, a sharp, overwhelming sensation that makes me gasp. For a few seconds, everything feels like it’s spinning. The heat spikes violently, my heart hammering so hard I think it might burst.
Then, slowly, the fire begins to fade.
My muscles relax. The pounding in my head eases. The desperate, clawing need in my chest quiets to a dull throb. I feel suddenly weak, like all the strength has been drained from my limbs. My eyelids grow heavy.
Irina watches me closely, her hand still resting on my arm.

"You’re going to be fine," she says softly, her voice steady and reassuring. "The injection worked. Your body is stabilizing for now."
I let out a shaky breath, grateful for the relief even if it feels temporary.
"But I need to tell you something," she continues, her tone shifting slightly. "Something important. And it has to stay between us for now."
I blink at her, still feeling a little disoriented from the medication. "What is it?"
She glances toward the door, then looks around the room, confirming that we’re truly alone. Her voice drops to a near whisper.
"I know this is going to be a lot for you to take in," she says carefully. "But you’re not just an ordinary wolf."
I cock my head, confusion cutting through the haze. "What do you mean?"
Irina’s light blue eyes meet mine.
"Lower your voice," she says gently. "And listen carefully."
She pauses for a moment, as if choosing her words with care. "You’re a Lycan."
The words hit me like a physical blow. I freeze, my entire body going cold despite the lingering heat in my veins. It feels like something has been knocked straight into my gut, stealing the air from my lungs.
"I’m a what?" I whisper, my voice barely audible.
