Chapter 83: 083: Heat symptoms?

~ ROSELLE ~

I don’t know what’s wrong with me.

I can’t explain it, this burning intensity that’s taken over my entire body, making me feel like I’m on fire from the inside out. All I know is that I need Ronan. I need him all over me. The ache between my thighs is unbearable now, a deep, throbbing pulse that feels like it’s begging for something only he can give. It’s wet and hot and empty, like my body knows he has exactly what it needs to soothe it.

And the fact that I can’t feel any more pain around my rib area... even though I was discharged earlier with broken ribs and deep bruises... it’s obvious now. They’ve healed. Completely. The skin is smooth under my fingers, no tenderness, no lingering ache. Ronan just noticed it too, I can see the shock in his eyes as he runs his hands over my sides, checking again like he can’t believe it.

Why am I suddenly feeling this needy? This desperate?

Does it have anything to do with that dream? That monstrous beast and the filthy, degrading things it whispered to me, about knotting me, breeding me, ruining me until I was nothing but a dripping, broken mess for it? The memory makes my core clench involuntarily, shame and unwanted heat mixing together in my belly.

I shouldn’t be thinking about that, not now that Ronan is right here.

But the ache won’t stop. It only grows stronger the longer I straddle his lap, feeling the hard length of him pressing against me through our clothes. My hips shift without my permission, grinding down just a little, and a soft, needy sound escapes my throat before I can stop it.

"Roselle..." Ronan’s voice is hoarse, strained, his hands gripping my hips tighter to still me. His grey eyes are dark with lust and concern.

His eyes are fixed on my skin, and that’s when I notice it. The injuries Mara inflicted on me, the very ones Elias had treated, are healing.

What’s going on with me?

"Sit up. I’m going to get Elias." Ronan immediately rises to his feet, gently helping me onto the bed before dashing out of the room.

I flex my hand, running my fingers over the spot where the injury had been. It’s healed, and the skin feels warm at my touch. My entire body is heating up.

The door swings open as Ronan and Elias hurry into the room. Elias walks straight over to me and reaches for my hand. The color suddenly drains from his face as his eyes dart from me to Ronan, then back to my hand again.

"Are you feeling any pain?" he asks, setting down the medical bag he brought with him. He slips the stethoscope from around his neck, crouches in front of me, and places it against my chest.

"No," I say nodding my head.

Elias listens to my chest for a long moment, his brow furrowed in concentration. Finally, he pulls the stethoscope away and sits back on his heels.

"Your heart rate is normal," he says, though there is a note of surprise in his voice. "It’s steady and strong. The injuries I treated earlier should still be causing you pain, but they are healing far faster than they should. I don’t see any signs of physical distress."

He doesn’t stop there. He runs a few quick tests, checking my pupils, pressing gently on my ribs which should still hurt but don’t, drawing a small vial of blood, and scanning me with a strange glowing device I’ve never seen before. The whole time, Ronan stands beside me like a protective shadow, his hand never leaving my shoulder.

When Elias finally looks up, his expression is a mix of awe and concern.

"Your skin has healed completely," he says slowly. "The bruises are gone. The cuts have closed, and even your broken ribs have healed. That kind of rapid regeneration is only common in wolves with an active, dominant inner wolf. Those wolves instinctively fight to protect their hosts."

He pauses.

"It seems your suppressed wolf is... fighting back. The chemical that was used to lock her away is still present in your system, but your wolf is pushing against it with unusual aggression. And this type of internal battle can trigger a premature heat cycle in female wolves, whose wolves are often stronger. Your body is preparing for a full heat, even though your wolf isn’t fully active yet. It’s... very uncommon. Almost unheard of, actually. Most female wolves don’t enter a full heat cycle without their wolf being awakened first."

Ronan’s grip on my shoulder tightens. "Is there anything I can do? And have you been able to identify the name of the chemical that’s suppressing her wolf?"

Elias shakes his head, looking frustrated. "No. I’ve matched it against everything in our database, every known suppressant, toxin, and poison used in our world. It all comes back negative. Whatever this is, it’s not something we’ve encountered before. That’s why I’ve been keeping this private. As a future Luna, your condition affects the entire pack. I didn’t want rumors or panic spreading until I had more answers."

He glances at Ronan, then back at me. "There is one doctor I know, an old friend who specializes in rare poisons and toxins. She can detect them just by the smell of the blood. She’s advanced, and reclusive. But if anyone can identify this chemical, it’s her."

Ronan immediately cuts in. "What are you waiting for? Get the doctor. Bring her here as soon as possible."

Elias nods, already pulling out his phone. "I’ll contact her right away. In the meantime, Roselle... rest. Your body is going through a lot. The heat symptoms might get stronger. Stay hydrated. And if the need becomes... overwhelming, don’t fight it too hard. Your wolf is trying to break free. Let her."

The moment Elias leaves the room, Ronan turns to me, his grey eyes find mine.
