Chapter 538: Chapter 538 Siege 5

A ferocious tiger, a normal wild animal, had emerged from the forest right beside the goblins.

Under normal circumstances, such a scene would be impossible.

Monsters and wild animals were like oil and water. If they encountered each other in the wild, a fight would break out almost immediately. One side would inevitably become the prey, depending on which was stronger.

After all, the wilderness followed a strict food chain.

Goblins were far weaker than a tiger. In most cases, the tiger would hunt them without hesitation, whether for food or simply for the instinctual thrill of the chase.

There had never been a time when the two species would stand side by side without attacking each other.

And yet now...

They were advancing together.

That unnatural sight made Addison’s heart skip a beat.

Seeing this, gasps rippled through the warriors stationed along the wall.

The same terrifying scene was unfolding everywhere they looked.

From every corner of the forest, more and more monsters and ferocious wild animals began emerging. Their eyes were wild, their movements agitated, as if they were ready to pounce at any moment.

Under normal circumstances, such creatures would not have been enough to frighten the werewolves. Individually, werewolves were far stronger than most of the beasts appearing before them.

But this time, the problem wasn’t strength.

It was numbers.

The creatures kept pouring out of the forest in an endless stream. Goblins, wolves, boars, and other monstrous beasts pushed through the tree line one after another.

And the worst part was—

The flow showed no sign of slowing down.

The longer the warriors watched, the clearer it became that the tide of monsters was only continuing to grow.

"Everyone! Stay on guard and prepare to face the first wave!" Addison shouted immediately.

The warriors had been momentarily stunned by the terrifying sight unfolding before them, their movements frozen as they stared at the endless stream of monsters pouring from the forest.

Her command snapped them back to reality.

At once, the first group of warriors, led by their Alpha team leaders, charged out through the gate and rushed toward their designated positions to intercept the incoming monsters and wild animals.

Moments later, the two sides collided.

The battlefield erupted into a bloody clash.

The creatures attacking the camp looked as though they were crazed, lunging forward with reckless ferocity and showing no hesitation in killing anything in their path.

Watching the battle unfold, Addison felt her heart tighten.

Something was wrong.

Very wrong.

The monsters and wild animals all had the same unsettling feature: their eyes glowed with a menacing crimson hue, and their movements were wild and frenzied, as if they had completely lost their sanity.

"Everyone, be extremely careful!" Addison shouted again. "These creatures are agitated, it’s like they’ve been drugged!"

Her eyes swept across the battlefield as realization struck her.

If monsters and wild animals from every direction were converging on the camp at the same time...

Then something inside their temporary shelter must be attracting them.

Suddenly, the unease she had felt earlier finally made sense.

The faint traces she had noticed before, those suspicious signs that had vanished moments later—

They must have been placed deliberately by the spies hidden among them.

Those traces were likely what had lured these creatures here.

’How vile...’ Addison growled inwardly, anger burning in her chest as everything finally began to make sense.

Their enemy had been manipulating the situation from the very beginning.

They had deliberately created distraction after distraction, keeping her attention scattered so she wouldn’t focus too closely on any single detail. And just when she had almost begun to notice something suspicious, they poisoned the livestock to create even more chaos.

That incident had successfully drawn her attention toward the animal pens.

But the poisoned animals had never been their true objective.

Their real goal had been something far worse.

They had lured wild animals and monsters toward the temporary shelter.

By the time Addison and the others realized what was happening, it was already too late.

The camp would then be surrounded.

And there would be nowhere left to run.

The enemy had expected that the packs gathered here would either be annihilated by the incoming horde... or forced to fight until the bitter end.

And judging by the sheer number of creatures pouring out of the forest, hundreds upon hundreds of them, the outcome seemed almost hopeless.

Although many packs had gathered inside the temporary camp, most of them lacked real battlefield experience. They weren’t experienced warriors like the warriors who fought regularly on the front lines.

Organizing them into a cohesive fighting force under such sudden pressure would be extremely difficult.

Addison had already made preparations earlier, but looking at the endless wave of monsters now approaching...

She knew those preparations alone might not be enough.

"Damn it!" Addison snarled under her breath, agitation tightening her chest as she watched the battle unfold.

For the moment, their side was holding.

The warriors were managing to stand their ground, relying on their natural werewolf instincts to fight and defend against the incoming monsters and wild animals. Seeing this, the warriors stationed behind the walls felt a surge of excitement, their morale rising as they watched their comrades push back the first wave.

But Addison knew better.

This momentum wouldn’t last.

At the beginning of a battle, confidence could carry a force surprisingly far. Everyone believed they were doing well, and that belief alone made them fight harder.

But as time passed, their weaknesses would slowly surface.

Fatigue would creep in.

And once exhaustion began affecting their minds and bodies, the battle would turn into a war of attrition.

Right now, the warriors and Alphas fighting in the first wave were giving everything they had. They were fighting with overwhelming force to raise everyone’s morale and show that the enemy could be held back.

But that also meant they were burning through their stamina far too quickly.

Sooner than expected, the first group would have to be replaced by the second.

Then the third.

But when the full rotation ended, and the first group was called back to the battlefield again, they likely wouldn’t have had enough time to recover.

Their exhaustion would begin to pile up.

And once their strength declined, casualties would start appearing.

When that happened, the warriors’ morale would inevitably begin to crumble.

Addison’s gaze darkened as she scanned the forest.

From the looks of it, nearly every monster and wild animal in the surrounding area had been drawn toward the camp.

And the horde was still growing.

Although Addison had already realized this, she couldn’t simply order everyone to change how they were fighting.

If she suddenly told the warriors to hold back or stop being so aggressive after they had just begun pushing the enemy back, it would only confuse them and damage their morale even faster. Right now, their confidence was the only thing keeping the defensive line steady.

So instead of disrupting the battle formation, Addison chose another course of action.

She needed to find whatever was attracting the monsters and wild animals to the temporary camp.

And once she found it...

She would destroy it.
