Chapter 250: Electrifying Consequences

"What on earth?" I I turned around, only to see a crowd of werewolves crowding a fair distance away, with Kyle at the head of their group.

Another flurry of rocks flew in my direction, and this time, Blaise stood in front of me and batted away as many of them as he could with his arms. Kaine’s team sprung to attention and they formed a quick shield― not around me, but around Darach.

I didn’t take it personally, since their orders were to make sure Darach remained unharmed. I had Blaise for protection. But Blaise, no matter how amazing he was, was only one person.

Some of the rock fragments ended up hitting me. I hissed as I felt the sharp edges scraping my skin. It wasn’t as bad as any injury I had gotten recently, but it was annoying nonetheless.

However, Blaise didn’t think lightly of my injury. His eyes seemed to glow with a need to enact quick and bloody vengeance.

"What is the meaning of this? Do you need a lesson in respecting your pack members― or is this your idea of mutiny?" Blaise growled, all his earlier good humor vanishing in a second. His eyes roved over members of the crowd, his anger palpable even from a distance.

I couldn’t help but notice that they inadvertently took a hasty step back, despite having the guts to fling rocks at me.

It also didn’t escape my notice that they only started flinging rocks when Damon was no longer present.

I snorted. What a bunch of cowards― they didn’t even have the nerve to approach me and slug me with their fists. Their method of intimidation was to fling rocks at a distance, as though I was a greenhouse made out of glass that would shatter.

Even Aubrey had more nerve than them, and wasn’t that such a damning statement that my childhood bully had more guts than this group of elite warriors?

"Beta Blaise, we want the human scum to get out of Fangborne!" One of the rock throwers cried out, but I detected the slight waver in her voice as Blaise directed his icy gaze in her direction.

The other members chorused in agreement, yelling various obscenities.

"Get out, you motherfu―"

The air echoed with them, and I sorely hoped that no young pups were listening.

"But I’m already leaving?" Darach pointed out from behind the protective wall of werewolf guards.

He tried to pop his head out, but since everyone was taller than him by at least a head, I could only see a bit of his forehead. However, there was no mistaking the exasperation and incredulity in his voice.

"Really guys, I don’t think there’s a need for such language. Couldn’t you even wait? They are truly Damon Valentine’s people. Urgh..." I could vividly picture the disgust on Darach’s face.

I couldn’t help but laugh. "Darach, I think they were talking about me," I said, unintentionally amused.

"If that’s the case, that makes even less sense!" Darach exclaimed. "How can they want their alpha and beta’s fated mate to get out? Do they want to start their own pack then?"

"Who knows?" Blaise asked with a wicked glint in his eyes. "Maybe that’s precisely what they want. I’ll ask."

"Do you fools want to be kicked out of the pack?" Blaise roared towards the crowd, who fell silent for a brief second.

Then the yelling returned with increased fervor.

"Beta Blaise, please wake up!"

"You’re being fooled by this witch!"

"She will doom us all!"

I gritted my teeth, upset. The warning the oracles gave began to resurface.

"Blaise, leave it," I said, tugging at his arm. "It’s just not worth it to argue with these people." They already thought the worst of me.

"No can do," Blaise said determinedly. "No one can show this much disrespect to a pack member without consequences, Harper. I’ll handle it."

"Apologize to Harper now, or face the consequences," Blaise addressed the crowd, but they were unmoved.

"No way!" 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Beta Blaise, please reconsider!"

"She’s cucking you!"

The crowd hollered at me, and Blaise clapped his hands. I presumed it was to signal them to shut up.

But to my utmost surprise, the air began to crackle as my hair stood on its end. The pressure in the surrounding area plummeted as though we were next to the sea, and a bolt of light left Blaise’s hands and made its way straight at the crowd, as though heralding an incoming summer storm.

The crowd screamed and scattered as the light hit the ground, causing the grass to char almost immediately. This time, instead of screaming obscenities at me, they simply turned and fled with their metaphorical tails between their legs.

I couldn’t blame them for fleeing. Probably the thought of being electrocuted as punishment for verbal abuse was too much for them to bear.

I had barely managed to believe what I just saw.

Blaise had conjured lightning with his bare hands and directed it at someone.

Darach was equally gobsmacked, but Kaine’s team seemed particularly unbothered. Their stony faces were the complete opposite of Darach’s incredulous expression.

"What on earth did I just see?" Darach exclaimed, and he took the words straight out of my mouth. "You have magic? You just... shot lightning? Like a god?"

Darach stumbled back, and one of the men caught him before he fell.

"Well, let’s not go too far," Blaise said ruefully. He rubbed his palms, and I noticed that they had turned a bright red. There was a singed smell wafting off them too.

"You’re hurt!"

"A minor drawback from using this part of me. It’ll heal itself in no time." Blaise shrugged.

I was even more confused, yet intrigued at the same time.

As far as I noticed, Damon had never suffered any consequences for using his ice powers, except for possible exhaustion. Perhaps it was simply a difference in elements― ice was harmless enough on its own, but lightning could kill anyone.

"There’s a reason why I hardly use this, especially when my wolf does the job well enough," Blaise said, a bit self-conscious. "But this time, I needed them to know I meant business."
