Chapter 19: Entrance Examination [3]
’Ah... there you are, my first love.’
In his past life as Irakiel, Zrryha personally trained him with the spear for decades.
Every thrust and spin was drilled into him until the spear became as natural as breathing.
Even now, after reincarnation, the muscle memory lingered deep in his bones.
Klein walked over to the rack and picked up the spear.
The moment his fingers closed around the shaft, a familiar feeling surged through him.
’I fucking missed this feeling...’
He gave it a slow, experimental twirl. The air whistled softly as the spear spun with natural grace.
A small, satisfied smile appeared on his face ’Still feels right.’
From the adjacent arena, Julia paused her warm-up swings and stared at him.
Her eyes narrowed slightly as she watched the way he handled the spear.
’He said he’s never held a sword before... but the way he’s holding that spear...’ she thought, a flicker of doubt crossing her mind.
Back in the arena, the examiner spoke "Klein Faress! Prepare yourself. Wave One begins in ten seconds."
Klein took a deep breath and walked to the center of the arena, holding the spear loosely in his right hand.
*THOOM* The ground in front of him cracked open as the first wave of training golems materialized with large blades and shields, designed to simulate low-rank dungeon monsters.
Klein spun the spear once, ’Let’s see how much of my old self remains.’
The examiner raised his hand.
"Wave One Begin!"
*swoosh* In the next instant, he dashed forward using perfect mana control to enhance his physical strength.
The spear in his hand became a blur as he spun it in a wide arc.
Clang-! Clang-!
The first two golems’ blades were deflected effortlessly.
With a sharp twist of his wrist, the spear tip pierced straight through the gap in the first golem’s armor plating, shattering its core in a burst of sparks.
He didn’t stop.
Spinning on his heel, he used the momentum to slam the butt of the spear into the second golem’s shield, cracking it, then followed up with a thrust that destroyed its head.
*CRACK*
The remaining three golems tried to surround him, but Klein dashed through the gap between them.
*sleesh* Gripping the spear tightly, she slashed it, bisecting the golem from shoulder to hip.
As the fourth golem slashed its sword, he dodged to the side and counterattacked with a swift thrust to its chest. *thoom*
The last golem lunged at him from behind.
Without even turning around, Klein flicked the spear backward over his shoulder, impaling the construct through its chest. *CREAK*
He twisted the shaft and yanked it free in one smooth motion, letting the golem fall on the floor.
The entire first wave was destroyed in less than twenty seconds.
Silence fell over the nearby arenas for a brief moment before murmurs erupted.
In the adjacent field, Julia lowered her sword, staring at Klein with wide eyes.
’...What the actual fuck?’
The examiner for Klein’s group stared at the destroyed golems, then at the young man standing in the center of the arena.
"...Wave Two," he announced, though his voice was slightly strained. "Begin."
The air shimmered, and four large, ferocious illusory direwolves materialized from swirling mana.
Their fangs gleamed, and low, guttural growls echoed through the arena as they circled him with aggressive red energy rippling from their bodies.
Klein’s grip on the spear tightened slightly.
[Your proficiency in spears has increased. Spear Mastery has been upgraded to (E+) ]
[Your proficiency in spears has increased. Spear Mastery has been upgraded to (D-) ]
Dismissing the messages from his panel, he glanced at the direwolves.
*swoosh* The first direwolf lunged with blinding speed, snapping its jaws toward his throat.
Julia’s eyes condescended in worry ’Dodge.’
But Klein stepped forward into the attack, and his body moved with the muscle memory of countless battles from his past life.
Swoosh-!
The tip of his spear pierced straight through the direwolf’s open mouth and out the back of its skull in one fluid motion.
The beast dissolved into scattering mana particles before it could even yelp.
The remaining three wolves attacked from different angles at the same time, one from the left, one from the right, and one leaping from behind.
Klein turned on his foot, and the shaft deflected the left wolf’s claws with a sharp metallic *clang*, sparks flying as he redirected the beast’s momentum.
Without missing a beat, he thrust backward instinctively, driving the spear straight into the leaping wolf’s open mouth and out through the back of its skull.
SCREECH-!
The direwolf let out a dying shriek as golden energy flared along the spear’s edge, causing it to explode into shimmering particles of mana that scattered like fireflies in the wind.
The second wolf tried to capitalize on the opening, darting low to bite at Klein’s legs.
Klein used the momentum of his spin to bring the spear around in a devastating horizontal sweep.
*THUD* The butt of the weapon slammed into the wolf’s skull with bone-crushing force, sending the beast tumbling across the arena floor.
*swoosh* Before it could recover, Klein dashed forward and drove the spear downward, pinning it to the ground through its neck, erasing the construct in a brilliant flash.
The final direwolf, sensing the overwhelming disadvantage, tried to retreat.
But Klein gripped the spear and threw the spear like a javelin with pinpoint accuracy.
*sleesh* The weapon whistled through the air and pierced straight through the wolf’s chest, nailing it to the far wall of the arena.
*thoom*
The walls trembled for a moment before the direwolf disintegrated to pieces.
Looking at the spear embedded in the wall, he sighed in his heart ’I should get basic telekinesis skill so I don’t have to go and pick up my spear whenever I throw it like this.’
Julia stared at Klein with wide eyes, her sword hanging loosely at her side.
’No fucking way he did that with just talent or luck. That perfect mana control and spear proficiency.’
’And he was not even scared standing in front of them...’
’Is he really a normal citizen till now?’
