Chapter 162: Chapter 162 Conversation 023 Captain is Heartbroken (6)
The field returned to a peaceful state once more, with only the simple sounds of soldiers standing at-ease remaining.
Flossie Wright and Becca Reyes stood side by side in the distance. Flossie was lost in her thoughts, her gaze lingering on the two groups of soldiers, while Becca watched her for a while, finding it hard to contain herself.
"Are you really going to help resolve the issues Janice has with some people?" Becca leaned closer to Flossie’s ear and asked in a low, probing voice.
"She can handle her own business." Flossie turned her head to glance at Becca, frowning in annoyance, "Keep your distance."
"..."
Becca’s face contorted with frustration, almost wishing she could physically confront Flossie.
However, it was somewhat surprising for Becca that Flossie had no intention of intervening in Janice’s affairs.
When Janice was being bullied last time, Flossie had impulsively fought off two female soldiers without hesitation. It was rare to see Flossie so rash and Becca had admired her for a long time because of it.
Yet, today Janice was clearly getting into trouble with the new soldiers for Flossie’s sake. She was isolated and targeted, and in an army establishment like this, having no one to interact with made it hard to get by.
Becca didn’t have any interest in guessing other people’s thoughts, and she didn’t want to root out the reasons behind Flossie’s decisions. So, despite her many doubts, she naturally suppressed them and didn’t question Flossie any further.
Following this, training continued. However, Flossie and Becca did not stay for long as they had to prepare meals for the cooking class. If they waited to go back with the others, they wouldn’t need to go back to the cooking class—they could just sit back and eat like lords.
Apparently, Glenn Hutchinson didn’t mind them leaving early either. He waved off Flossie and Becca when they came over to say goodbye.
There’s no denying that Becca was profoundly impacted by this observation, her thoughts lingering on the determined and hardworking soldiers for a long time afterwards.
She believed that in her forthcoming training—and for some time—she would have no more complaints.
If others can endure hardships cheerfully, then what reason does she have to complain or whine about a few basic training drills?
"Where have you two been?!"
Flossie and Becca returned a bit early. But just as they entered the dormitory, they saw Neal Thompson standing at the doorway, hands on his hips and glaring at them as if they’d committed some grave mistake.
"We’ve told Captain Lin about it." Becca looked at him, her eyes full of confusion.
What’s with this sudden outburst? They didn’t provoke him or cause any trouble, so why was he acting erratically?
"Captain Lin, Captain Lin, what good is telling him? I’m the one in charge of you! Do you two think you’re so capable that you can wander off wherever you like without reporting?!"
Neal bellowed irritably at Flossie and Becca. His face was red with rage, as if there was a pent-up fury burning inside of him that couldn’t be quenched—it was quite a terrifying sight.
Yet, the ever-fearless Flossie and Becca weren’t intimidated and quickly deduced the cause of his outburst.
Neal probably had a grudge against the forthright Captain Lin. Since Flossie and Becca’s arrival, their disagreements had deepened. Their educational philosophies were completely opposite, and Captain Lin was not fond of explaining anything to Neal. That, coupled with him having no outlet for his anger, led to this outburst.
