Chapter 20: Holy Mana

"Pardon me?"

Luthan blinked at the young boy’s absurd demand.

The boy is clearly a powerful Dark Mage, that much Luthan can see and tell.

If so...

’Why does he want me to teach him Holy Magic?!’

Thalia, who was listening to it, widened her eyes into circles.

Rian never told her about the Holy Mark after she was reincarnated into a new body.

To her, this too sounded a bit weird, but then she realised that it was Great Master’s demand, and he must have put several logical thoughts behind it.

She was a bit disappointed, because she didn’t understand what thought he put into it, or what his plans were.

’As expected, Great Master, your way of doing work is beyond a lowly servant like me.’

From now on, she would make up for it by studying her Great Master very closely.

She must keep up her mind with her Great Master if she wants to serve him!

Or else someone else capable would take away her ’maid’ spot.

’No no no, I will never let it happen.’

She must do anything to keep her place in the highest place in her Master’s brain.

Rian sat on the rock where Luthan was once laying down, looked at him, and repeated.

"Exactly what you heard. Can you do it or not? This is my only condition to let you live."

With Thalia, and now his Sister by his side, it would be possible for Rian to take him down if he wanted to.

He knows what Art to use against a Holy Mage like him to weaken him.

Now that the Mana Interference device or whatever that thing called was broken, Rian can now draw more mana from his surroundings using 「Gluttony」 and refine it into Dark Mana to fuel all his spells.

Even Thalia had learnt how to use the 「Origin Art」, so it became very much easier for Rian to rely on her as well, if he by any chance ran out of mana.

Rian prepared every possible scenario which a Cardinal of his status could pull off against him.

In his previous timeline, they had fought against and alongside the 13 Cardinals, so Rian is very much aware of how they approached matters on the spot.

"I am sorry, but I don’t know what you mean by it." Luthan simply seemed confused, "It’s clear that you are a Dark Mage, so if you try to refine the Mana into Holy Mana, then you will simply damage your body to the point that no healer in this entire world could fix it."

Rian completely understood what he meant by it, and even so, he also got the reason for his confusion.

As someone who had practiced Dark Magic ever since he was born, his body was adept to it entirely.

So, turning pure Mana into Dark Mana had become as simple as breathing for him.

And if someone were to suddenly ask a Dark Mage to refine the pure mana into Holy Mana instead, then they simply won’t be able to do it.

It would be impossible task for them.

This was what Luthan was trying to say here.

"I know the problem very well, but even so, can you show me how to use... no, show me how to bring forth Holy Mana into existence?"

To Luthan’s eyes, Rian must have looked like a mad man, or even persistent.

No matter how hard Luthan would try to figure out what he was planning to do, he could never reach the conclusion that beside his sister, there was another person, and that too a Dark Mage, who wields the Holy Mark in this era.

Luthan rubbed his chin, simply thinking about the condition he was given...

He just had to show him how it is done, and he was free to live.

It was very simple to do so, because the boy never asked him to make him master it. He would just show him...

’Yeah, it’s a good deal, I must say.’

He felt like he had the upper hand here.

So without ever thinking further, he agreed.

"Alright, I will teach you how to bring forth the Holy Mana, but don’t go back on your words if you fail to learn it."

"Alright, seems fair." Rian nodded.

If a Dark Mage gets in contact with Holy Mana, then it would clash with their magic spells, turning them into useless pieces.

The same was also the truth which applied to a Holy Mage as well.

Rian was not worried about it at all.

Because the thing was...

’I have the Holy Mark.’

Since he has the Holy Mark, he should not need to refine the mana into Holy Mana inside his body.

The Holy Mark would directly provide him with the Holy Mana, there was no need to convert the pure mana into Holy Mana.

This was what Jeanne had once told him about it.

Rian still remembered that he had asked Jeanne if she could let him experiment on her sacred mark, and to let him cut open her skin for once.

’....haaah, that day, she gave me a disgusted look.’

Seeing the boy so confident, Luthan began.

’Well, this might look easy to him, but he would need hundreds of trials to get it.’

To bring forth Holy Mana, the caster must have a clear goal, a goal which he would use the power to achieve.

Most Holy Mages wandered for their true goal, and ended up failing.

Even Luthan himself took three days of his time to find his true goal.

After Luthan was done explaining and the little demo was over, he simply added at last.

"This is everything you need to know. You must have a true goal in your mind, without it it’s impossible."

’True goal?’ Rian blinked several times.

This is totally absurd!

What does he mean he would need to find his true goal?!

That method is so much different than casting a Dark Magic, in fact no such absurd thing was needed.

Luthan told him to find his true goal first and then later use it, which he thought would be impossible.

"Hmmm..."

’Let’s see....’ Rian thought deeply in his mind.

A True Wish....

Rian knows what his True Wish should be.

It was the only True Wish which he had chased all this time.

As he thought about it, Luthan’s eyes widened.

Fwooooos

Holy Mana was surging from the young boy’s left hand, like a pulsing flame from his black gloves.

Even Thalia was taken aback.

"What... the hell..." Luthan couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

A Dark Mage bringing forth Holy Magic, and that too on his first try.

Rian slowly raised his gaze, and with a satisfied grin he added.

"This was rather easy."
