Chapter 18: Fabrication
Luthan was simply too stunned to speak.
The short dark-haired girl, in a maid uniform, who just slaughtered his entire troops he came here with, without even noticing him... and that too in just a matter of seconds.
’She is dangerous.’ Luthan coldly remarked at her.
The girl named herself Thalia, and told him that she was given the name by her Great Master.
This made Luthan think that she was not here alone.
Luthan’s eyes glanced at the 「Holy Anchor」 behind her.
Luthan was here because the Emperor had given him the order to plant it here.
If it was done, then the Holy Empire would gain the upper hand, and it would be too late for the Dark Empire to move even if they found it later.
Luthan didn’t like the ongoing chemistry between the two Empires, but he had to do it, because if he didn’t, then the Dark Empire would.
That was how both the kingdoms are currently.
Both wanted to slice each other’s throats, even if they got the slightest chance.
"Why did you kill them?"
He asked the maid named Thalia.
Thalia had been acting incredibly polite to him, which sent chills down his spine.
Now the thing is, Luthan was aware of the fact that the men who tagged along with him here were actually after his life, because of what he did to the Emperor’s concubine.
"Oh dear, you didn’t realize that they were after your life this whole time?" She asked, smiling, "I thought you were faking it to them."
She was spot on.
Luthan was indeed faking it, he was aware of their every move, and that’s why he was acting defenceless all this time.
He deliberately mocked them, and slandered them for their lazy task so that they would get angry and rush to kill him.
He even prepared a healing magic in case something bad happened.
Knowing the Emperor, he had probably sent the best of his best men to take Luthan down.
Luthan grew wary of her, now trying to figure out what she was really after.
She clearly said she killed them all because they were about to kill him.
"You didn’t have to do anything, I had it all under control, so tell me, what are you really after?"
This was the main reason, because there was no way she would walk all the way here just to save an unknown person.
She was clearly a necromancer, and that too a high-class one. The way she handled that many undead, it was clear she was above Grade 7.
Luthan could take her on in a one-on-one, but the thing is, she was not alone here.
Her undead were more than a dozen of them, and each with quite the build, and now that his own men were dead, she could even turn them into undead too.
Fighting her here would be suicidal.
To gain the upper hands, he needed to first destroy all her undeads.
"I am glad you caught on. To tell you the truth, Cardinal, I wasn’t here to save you, Cardinal. I was here because of the thing you were building here," she pointed at the Holy Anchor, "It’s interfering with my Grand Master... You see, he didn’t tell me, but as his good maid, I noticed it troubled him quite a bit. It made my Great Master itch his arm."
Luthan had no idea what the heck she was spouting.
"...itch his arm...?" He repeated.
Just that....?
So she was here because the Holy Anchor somehow made her master’s hand itch.
’What type of sick maid is she?’
He looked into her eyes, which were not covered, and there he didn’t see any trace of fear in them.
Gulp...
It’s as if this thing is not even human to begin with.
Just by one glance it sickened his stomach to the point of throwing up.... or maybe it was the rotten corpses of the undead which made him nauseous.
"..hehe, see, you are nauseous, right?"
"...!!"
How did she know?
"The Holy Anchor, it was not what it looks like. I wonder how a Cardinal of your status missed it." Thalia said.
With one snap of her fingers, she made all her undead break apart the Holy Anchor.
As the pieces fell to the ground, and the nauseating feeling in Luthan died down.
"...what?"
He didn’t understand what just happened.
It looks like his nausea was caused by this Holy Anchor.
"It’s a large-scale Mana Resistance device. It was active to make either your mana get blocked, or get overloaded slowly."
Both would have been fatal for him.
Luthan, even though he was a Grade 8 Holy Mage, was unable to figure out what was happening to him.
"...will you kill me too? Or capture me and hand me over to the military?"
Thalia tilted her head in confusion, as if the question Luthan asked was something strange.
"Then what’s the point of saving you?"
"Then--"
"I am not done with you, though. You will stay put, till I decide what to do with you after my Great Master arrives."
As she said that, Thalia noticed that her mana was getting depleted, and some of the undead she had created turned to corpses again.
"Oh?"
Her eyes perked at Luthan.
"Stop doing that if you fear death." She warned him.
"...!"
Luthan quickly stopped his Holy Magic.
He was using a Healing Magic, slowly spreading it out around him, that way he could make the undead dead again.
It was the weakness of a necromancer, where all their undead would turn into rotten corpses again when exposed to Healing magic.
The caster would not even get to notice it, only the undead could notice it.
But the maid somehow noticed.
’How did she find out?!’
But even so, he had already taken out a few of her undead, and the rest looked like they were slipping from her control too, all because she was running low on mana.
He didn’t know how her mana suddenly dulled down, but it didn’t matter, he had the upper hand now.
But....
"「Origin Magic: Gluttony」"
She spoke calmly, and as she did, Luthan felt a surreal force surrounding her body.
