Chapter 437: Chapter 436: Stinky Brat, You Dare to Trick Me

Sure enough, when Yun Shu got up and opened the door early the next morning, she saw snowflakes drifting down from the sky. They weren’t heavy, but it was definitely snowing.

Gao Cuiyun called out to her, "Yun Shu, come and eat. You two should leave as soon as you’re done. If you leave too late, I’m afraid the snow will get heavier."

After Yun Shu went inside and sat down, she saw Xiao Yang with a dark expression on his face, and Xiao Ming looked gloomy too.

They hadn’t expected it to actually snow today either.

Gao Cuiyun said to her, "Don’t mind them. Go on and eat. You still have a train to catch."

Yun Shu nodded.

After the meal, Yun Shu went back to her room to pack. It was really just a few items of clothing that she could carry in a small bag.

In the next room, Xiao Yang sat on the edge of the *kang*, sighing dramatically as he watched He Zichen pack.

He Zichen said helplessly, "I’ll come back when I have time. Don’t act like a scorned woman."

Xiao Yang snorted. "That’s what you said last time, too."

He Zichen looked at him and ran his tongue over his molars.

Gao Cuiyun had already arranged for the village’s ox-cart to take them directly to the train station.

Uncle Lao Gen, who used to drive the ox-cart, had passed away a few years ago. The current driver was his grandson, who was about the same age as Xiao Yang.

"Brother Xiao Chen, this is your girlfriend, right?"

He Zichen nodded.

"Heh heh, I heard the villagers talking. They said you brought your girlfriend back to see your mom."

He Zichen smiled. "Thanks for taking us to the train station."

"No trouble, no trouble at all."

Gao Cuiyun had already paid him.

Yun Shu followed He Zichen onto the ox-cart, and Gao Cuiyun stuffed a bag of things onto it.

"These are some local mountain goods. Yun Shu, take them home for your parents to try. We don’t have many fancy things here, but there are some hazelnuts and pine nuts inside. I saw you enjoyed them, so I packed a little extra."

She couldn’t refuse at a time like this, so Yun Shu just nodded. "Thank you, Auntie."

Wang Chunlan said to Yun Shu, "Come back and visit when you have time."

Yun Shu nodded and said without thinking, "You all should come to Beijing City if you’re free. I can show you around."

Xiao Yang’s eyes lit up. He turned to Gao Cuiyun and said, "Mom, since we’re not busy anyway, why don’t we go visit Beijing City too?"

Gao Cuiyun shot him a look. "It’s about to snow. Don’t cause trouble. We’ll talk about it later."

Once the ox-cart was far away and their figures were just distant specks, Yun Shu finally took a deep breath. ’Why did I have to open my big mouth? If the He family came to Beijing City, they’d find out about my real relationship with the boss.’

She pressed her lips together and patted her chest.

He Zichen looked at her, stifling a laugh.

Yun Shu shot him a glare. ’And whose fault is all this? He still has the nerve to laugh at me.’

By the time they reached the train station, the snowflakes were starting to get bigger.

"Brother Xiao Chen, I’ll be heading back now."

He Zichen nodded. "Be careful on the road."

"Alright."

The two of them arrived in Beijing City after a two-day train ride.

After leaving the train station, He Zichen planned to take Yun Shu home first before returning to his hotel.

But Yun Shu refused.

"Boss, there’s no need. I can get back on my own. You must be tired too, you should go back and rest."

He Zichen didn’t insist. "Alright then. See you tomorrow."

Yun Shu nodded. She got on a bus and left first. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Only after she was long gone did He Zichen remember he was still carrying the bag of mountain goods from home. He had forgotten to give it to her.

Meanwhile, Yun Shu didn’t go straight home on the bus. Instead, she went to the hospital.

She gently pushed open the door to the hospital room.

It was quiet inside, with only the beeping of the monitor audible.

Yun Shu walked over, placed her luggage on a nearby chair, and looked at the man on the hospital bed.

A few minutes later, someone walked in.

"Xiao Yun, you’re back?"

Yun Shu nodded. "Aunt Wang, how was my dad’s condition while I was away?"

"No change. He’s been the same."

Yun Shu said to her, "I’ll stay with my father tonight. You can go home and rest. Come back tomorrow morning to take over for me."

"Okay."

Aunt Wang was the caregiver Yun Shu had hired to look after her father. Whenever she was away, Aunt Wang would be the one watching him.

Yun Shu sat down by the bed and gently took her father’s hand.

"Dad, I’m back."

"Dad, I went to Black Province with my boss."

"Dad, I got a raise, and a one-thousand-yuan bonus. I feel so much more relieved now. This is enough money to cover the hospital fees for a few months."

"You have to get better soon. I’m so lonely by myself."

"..."

Little Chen returned to his hotel, washed up, and immediately started working.

He also called He Lang to let him know he was back.

"You’re back so soon? Since you went all the way back, why didn’t you stay a few more days?"

"It’s about to snow back home. I was worried the heavy snow would block the roads, so I came back early."

"Oh, didn’t you say you have a girlfriend? Bring her over to the house sometime."

Now, however, He Zichen denied it. "When did I ever say I have a girlfriend?"

He Lang: "...What’s going on? Didn’t you before—"

"Third Uncle, I never said that. You’re the one who made assumptions."

He Lang laughed and cursed over the phone, "You little brat, how dare you trick me. Just you wait."

He Zichen just laughed.

The next day, Yun Shu came to work.

When He Zichen saw her exhausted face, he asked strangely, "Didn’t you rest after getting back?"

Yun Shu paused for a moment before replying, "I didn’t sleep well in a different place."

He Zichen frowned. "You look like you were out fooling around all night. Your dark circles could rival a panda’s."

Yun Shu didn’t dare to argue with the big boss right now.

"Boss, didn’t you say you’d give me a raise when we got back?" she said, winking at He Zichen.

He Zichen looked at her money-grubbing expression and chuckled. "I knew you wouldn’t forget about that. I’ll give you the raise today. I’ll talk to HR and finance in a bit."

Then he opened a drawer, took out an envelope, and handed it to Yun Shu.

"This is the 1,000 yuan I promised you."

Yun Shu took it with both hands, her happiness visible to the naked eye. She gave He Zichen a ninety-degree bow. "Thank you, Boss!"

Watching her stuff the envelope into her pocket, He Zichen joked, "Aren’t you going to count it carefully? Not afraid I shorted you?"

Yun Shu smiled. "I trust your character, Boss."

He Zichen raised an eyebrow. It was rare to hear something like that from Yun Shu’s mouth.

"I’m going out to work now, Boss."

He Zichen waved her off.

Then he remembered something else. "Hey, wait a second."

Yun Shu turned back to look at him. "Any other orders, Boss?"

He Zichen pointed to the bag in the corner of the office.

"Take this with you."

Yun Shu glanced over and saw it was the bag of mountain goods his mother had given them.

"Boss, this wasn’t for me. I can’t take it."

He Zichen looked at her and said, "Just take it when I tell you to. What’s with all the nonsense?"

Yun Shu looked at him, confused.

"Do you still want that raise or not?"

Upon hearing that, Yun Shu quickly grabbed the bag and left.

Back at her desk, Yun Shu opened the bag to check. It was indeed the same one from before. She set it aside with a helpless sigh. ’I really can’t figure this guy out.’
