Chapter 413: Chapter 412: I’m Going to Make a Fortune

After watching Daya and the others walk off into the distance, Liu Jianwei slowly returned to the place he was staying.

An old, dilapidated factory housed many people like Liu Jianwei who had come from out of town. They were all in Beijing City to work, but since they couldn’t afford to rent a proper place, they were forced to live crammed together here.

Someone saw Liu Jianwei come back empty-handed and asked in confusion, "Weren’t you sent out to buy food? How come you’re back with nothing?"

Only then did Liu Jianwei remember that he had gone out to buy something. But he had no appetite now, so he sat down next to the man.

"Guess who I just ran into outside?"

"Who?"

Liu Jianwei said smugly, "My niece. I’ve told you before, right? I have a niece in Beijing City. I just ran into her. She’s really rich now."

The man clearly didn’t believe him and thought Liu Jianwei was just bragging.

"If what you’re saying is true, then how come you’re living in a place like this with the rest of us? Didn’t your niece invite you to stay at her home?"

Liu Jianwei’s eyes darted around, and he scoffed, "That was before. Starting today, I’m gonna be rich."

But then it hit him—he still didn’t know Daya’s current address. He recalled his sister-in-law had mentioned that one of Daya’s maternal uncles was in business in Beijing City. She would definitely know the address.

Meanwhile, Daya pulled Xue Yue along for quite a long distance before finally stopping.

Xue Yue asked, "Was that your uncle?"

Xue Yue had been to the Liu Family’s home before, but she had never met Liu Jian Country’s brother.

Daya nodded.

"Was he unkind to you, too?"

Daya said calmly, "It’s hard to say if he was good or bad. He never hit or yelled at me; he just stood by and did nothing. His wife, on the other hand, loved ordering me around. My paternal grandmother favored him, and since he was married, he seemed to have some standing. I don’t know how he ended up in Beijing City, too."

Xue Yue comforted her, "It’s okay. What happened today was just a coincidence. Beijing City is so big, you probably won’t run into him again. Don’t overthink it. Let’s go buy your wedding outfit."

After several days of frantic preparations, the wedding day finally arrived.

Early in the morning, Gu Kai Zhi arrived at the He Family’s home on a motorcycle he’d borrowed from Xue Xingzhou. Trailing behind him were He Zichen, Xue Xingjun, Zhang Yunlei, and Tie Dan, all there to join in the fun and liven things up. Xue Xingzhou had wanted to come too, but He Lang didn’t let him, saying that as Gu Kai Zhi’s senior, it wouldn’t be proper.

Behind the crowd, they were also carting along the "Three Rounds and a Sound" that Gu Kai Zhi had purchased. It was what everyone getting married wanted these days, so he had bought them as well.

Someone outside shouted, "The groom is here! Tell the bride to hurry out!"

Hearing that Gu Kai Zhi had arrived, a smile touched the corners of Daya’s lips.

Xue Yue placed a hand on her shoulder. "Not so fast. There are still traditions to follow."

He Ziqing and He Ziniannian stood outside, blocking the doorway.

He Ziqing was holding a piece of paper.

Gu Kai Zhi had never met He Ziqing before, so for a moment, he didn’t know how to address her. The others didn’t give him any hints, wanting to see how he would handle the situation.

A flicker of understanding crossed Gu Kai Zhi’s eyes, and he immediately called out, "Sister, please let me in."

He Ziqing looked at him and said, "How did you know to call me ’Sister’? Do I look old to you?"

Someone in the back catcalled, "Ooh, you’ve already offended the bride’s family!"

Gu Kai Zhi smiled and clasped his hands in a small bow toward He Ziqing. "How would I dare? I could just see the wisdom in your eyes, and I remembered An Xin telling me she has a brilliant older sister who’s a top student at Beijing University. I figured that must be you."

He Ziqing laughed. "Such a sweet talker. Alright, I won’t make things difficult for you. I wrote this. Read it out loud for everyone. Consider it a pledge, and you have to mean every word. I don’t care if you’re a soldier; in front of the bride’s family, even a wolf has to tuck its tail."

"Our sister is amazing!!!" Xue Xingjun shouted.

Everyone laughed.

He Ziqing handed the paper to Gu Kai Zhi.

Gu Kai Zhi began to read: "Marriage Pledge—"

"HAHAHAHA."

He had only just read the title, and the people in the courtyard burst out laughing.

Gu Kai Zhi licked his lips and read the contents, the corners of his eyes crinkling with amusement.

"I, Gu Kai Zhi, take An Xin as my wife today. I hereby pledge that after marriage: I will hand over my salary, I will share the household chores, and if there is a disagreement with my wife, my wife is always right. If there is friction between my wife and my family, I will always stand on my wife’s side. I will be completely faithful, and even if we are separated by distance, I promise to conduct myself with dignity and self-respect. Furthermore, I will never raise a hand to my wife. If I violate any of the above, I will submit to any punishment from the bride’s family."

In truth, what He Ziqing had written was actually quite tame. After all, she didn’t know Gu Kai Zhi well and was afraid he might get upset if she wrote something too extreme.

After he finished reading, Gu Kai Zhi said, "In my life, I will definitely listen to my wife. And I don’t have a violent bone in my body, so please rest assured, Sister."

He Ziqing nodded. "That’s good, then."

With that, she stepped aside.

Gu Kai Zhi stood before the door, wiping his sweaty palms on his clothes. Even though they were already legally married, he was incredibly nervous at this moment.

He slowly pushed the door open and his eyes immediately fell upon the bride sitting on the edge of the bed. She wore a red dress and red high heels, her hair was styled in an updo, her face was adorned with exquisite makeup, and she held a red apple in her hands.

For a moment, Gu Kai Zhi was completely captivated.

Xue Yue chuckled lightly. "Doesn’t the bride look especially beautiful today?"

Gu Kai Zhi nodded. "Beautiful. Very beautiful."

With that, he walked toward Daya.

Daya looked at him, her face flushed with shyness.

Gu Kai Zhi knelt beside Daya. "Wife, I’ve come to get you."

Daya nodded.

Gu Kai Zhi swept Daya up into his arms and carried her out the door.

"He’s got the bride!"

Gu Kai Zhi carefully placed Daya on the back seat of the motorcycle, then rode off toward the hotel.

Back in the room, Xue Yue began to wipe away tears.

He Ziqing walked in.

"Auntie."

Though her eyes were filled with tears, Xue Yue was smiling. "I just can’t bear to part with Daya all of a sudden. Time flies so fast. The children are all grown up, and now she belongs to someone else’s family."

He Ziqing gave Xue Yue a hug. "Auntie, even though she’s married, she’s still our Daya. Besides, we’ll be able to see her every day. Won’t it be just like always?"

Xue Yue nodded. "Yes, she’s still our Daya."

"Let’s go. We should head to the hotel, too."

By the time Xue Yue and the others arrived at the hotel, everyone else was already there.

Just then, He Lang went up on stage.

"Thank you all for coming to celebrate the wedding of Gu Kai Zhi and An Xin. We are here to wish the newlyweds a long and happy life together, full of bliss."

"Kai Zhi, we are entrusting An Xin to you now. Treat her well."

Gu Kai Zhi nodded. "I will."

He Lang then turned to Daya. "My dear girl, be brave. You must remember that we will always be your support system, always standing behind you. Live a good life with Kai Zhi."

Daya’s eyes welled with tears as she nodded. "I know, Uncle."

He Lang took a piece of paper out of his pocket and handed it to Daya.

"This is your wedding gift from your uncle."

When Daya saw that it was the deed to a house, she froze.

"Uncle—"

Gu Kai Zhi saw it too, and his pupils contracted in shock.

He Lang smiled and said, "A child of our family can’t get married without a place of her own to live, can she? Your uncle prepared this for you a long time ago. You two can move in tonight. This is the deed, and it’s only in your name."

Staring at the piece of paper, Daya’s tears instantly began to fall.
