Chapter 199: Chapter 105: The Angel’s Advent
...
Fortunately, Lynch had deployed far more than just this one animal Skeleton Scout along their path.
The moment his spiritual link with the Squirrel Skeleton shattered, a crow skeleton hiding in a large tree immediately took over the surveillance mission.
Though the shared vision became blurry with distance, it could still capture key information.
Down in the mountain pass, the Crimson Reaper sensed it was being spied on. A vicious glint flashed in its crimson eyes as a bloody light surged around its body. With a flicker, its form blurred into a hazy, blood-colored phantom, hurtling toward Lynch and the others at an astonishing speed.
Moreover, the enemy’s Spiritual Power had already locked firmly onto all three of them. Clearly, the range of its Spiritual Power far exceeded Lynch’s.
Lynch’s heart clenched as he made an instant judgment.
The enemy’s speed far exceeded their own, and its Spiritual Power was also incredibly strong.
He and Amadis, as Necromancers, were not known for their speed. As for Avril, it was even worse—Priests were notoriously slow, and she was only Tier One.
Judging by the Crimson Reaper’s advance, it clearly had no intention of letting a single witness escape.
"It’s the Crimson Reaper, number ninety-seven on the Blacklist," Lynch said, his words coming quickly yet with a calm composure. "We can’t outrun it. Prepare for battle! Follow my lead. Come with me."
He had been scouting the area as they advanced and knew of some advantageous terrain about a hundred meters ahead and to the left. He immediately broke into a run, leading the way.
The color drained from Amadis and Avril’s faces, but they followed without a word.
Soon.
The trio reached a relatively flat, open area.
The terrain here was favorable for deploying an Undead Corps. Most importantly, their backs were against a concave, bowl-shaped cliff face. Setting up their formation here would reduce threats from the rear and flanks.
"Amadis, summon all your Undead Corps! Block the path ahead and form a defensive line!" Lynch ordered in a low voice, his back to the cliff face.
Amadis wasted no time with words. With a flick of her left hand, a palm-sized extraordinary item, resembling a model of the Temple of Death, materialized in her palm.
This was the Miniature Nether Hall, a core piece of equipment for a Necromancer, its function largely the same as a Death Banner or a Netherworld Marching Map.
Of course, this was a Low Tier replica of the actual treasure.
Lynch recalled that his senior, Raymond, seemed to use similar undead equipment.
Amadis poured her Mana into the Miniature Nether Hall. In an instant, it erupted with a dense Power of Death, projecting the phantom of a ghastly Temple of Death—one that seemed constructed from countless bones—over the clearing before them.
"HMMMM—"
The phantom trembled, and an undead gate swung open.
The next moment, Amadis’s Undead Army surged forth like a tidal wave.
The first to emerge were three Skeleton Corps radiating an elite aura.
Each of these three corps was led by a Skeleton Warrior whose aura had reached Tier Two. Judging from the color of their bones and their more-or-less standardized forms, these three commanders were likely the Skeletons bound to Amadis by her Netherworld Contract.
The Skeleton Soldiers they commanded were also elites; none of them looked weak, and their movements carried the grim air of a disciplined army.
What caught Lynch’s eye even more was that each Skeleton Corps had five or six Soul Fire Skeletons acting as mid-level officers, giving the troops the organizational structure of a proper army.
Among the three Netherworld Skeletons, one was a rare Skeleton Archer Warrior. The Skeleton Corps it commanded was even more special, containing a full fifty Skeleton Archers armed with bows and fifty Sword and Shield Soldiers.
Of course, these Skeleton Archers and Sword and Shield Soldiers were not quite the same as those summoned from the Netherworld.
Instead of bone bows and arrows, they used the same kind of bows, arrows, swords, and shields found in human armies.
This was strongly related to their combat instincts from their past lives. You couldn’t expect a Skeleton Servant that didn’t know archery in life to be able to shoot accurately after picking up a bow. However, almost any Skeleton Servant could wield conventional weapons like swords and spears.
But archers summoned from the Netherworld were different. Their inherent role was that of an archer. Their bone bows and bone arrows were innate. When they ran out of bone arrows, they would fashion new ones from the bones of other Skeletons. As their tier increased, their bone weapons would also evolve.
This was why Lynch always felt that Netherworld Skeletons seemed like they were mass-produced on an assembly line. He could often tell the difference between a Netherworld Skeleton and a Skeleton Servant at a glance.
After the three Skeleton Corps surged out and formed ranks on the clearing, a Zombie Corps charged out from the Temple of Death right behind them.
The one in the lead was black with a hint of purple, its Soul Fire burning brightly. It was clearly a Black Corpse that had reached Tier Two Peak.
Behind it followed a mighty procession of over thirty more Black Corpses.
Although these Black Corpses were far less powerful than their leader, the weakest among them was at least Tier One, and there were even a fair number of mid-Tier One or Tier Two Black Corpses in the mix.
When they lined up at the front of the formation, they truly resembled a bronze bastion, inspiring an immense sense of security.
But that wasn’t all.
After the squad of Black Corpses, two squads of Skeleton Cavalry charged out.
Leading them were two Soul Fire Skeleton Cavalry clad in armor and wielding longspears, their auras also having reached Tier Two.
