Chapter 659: Chapter 659: Still Half-Asleep
With a look of reluctance in her eyes, Candy handed over a lollipop with her head hanging low.
Immediately after, Candy heard the sound of a drawer being opened and then closed. She looked up and realized her brother had put the lollipop in the drawer.
This meant the lollipop was still hers, and she’d get a chance to eat it later.
Thinking it through, Candy felt more at ease and silently returned to the sofa.
Mo Jingchun, who had been watching Candy the whole time, couldn’t be fooled by her little actions, but he only smiled without saying anything.
It’s just a lollipop; it really doesn’t hold much allure for adults. Having had too many before, there’s no appetite for lollipops anymore.
By the end of the day, Candy had almost forgotten about the lollipop.
It’s not that Candy has a big heart; it’s just that if she really wanted a lollipop, she could easily go to the supermarket in the compound and take one since it wouldn’t cost anything—they were from her own family’s store anyway.
Bored, Candy watched cartoons for a long time today. Sitting in the car on the way home, she couldn’t help yawning, her eyes a bit muddled.
She... wanted to sleep.
"Sis, what are we having for dinner?"
"What do you want to eat?"
The next second, without hearing a response, Zhou Yaling tilted her head and was shocked.
Falling asleep in a second, what kind of divine skill is this? Truly enviable.
"Bro, what did you do with Candy today? She seems really tired."
Mo Jingchun rolled his eyes at Zhou Yaling and said, "If you’d been watching a tablet all day, you’d be the same."
"Watching cartoons from morning till night, isn’t it exhausting?"
"The compound seems huge, but when you’ve been here long enough, it’s not that big. Plus, with the hot weather, Candy on summer vacation can mostly only stay in the office building."
"No playmates either."
At first, Zhou Yaling felt sorry for Candy, but then realized it wasn’t right. Although there were no other kids in the office building, the kindergarten offers special services for watching kids during the summer. Although there were fewer kids, there were still dozens.
"Bro, why didn’t you send Candy to kindergarten?"
Hearing this, Mo Jingchun’s mouth twitched uncontrollably.
"Your lovely sister said kindergarten is full of little kids. She doesn’t want to go."
Zhou Yaling was obviously taken aback, then couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Her wild laughter didn’t wake the just-sleeping Candy.
"I’m dying of laughter, little kids, hahaha, isn’t she just indirectly saying she was a little kid too? What, graduating from kindergarten makes her special?"
"Haha, truly acting like a little grown-up."
"This child, increasingly amusing."
Mo Jingchun gave Zhou Yaling a disdainful glance and sneered, "What’s so funny? I don’t know who at six was still playing with stones like cars, making motor noises all day."
As expected, Mo Jingchun’s words abruptly stopped Zhou Yaling’s laughter.
Then came a cold chuckle, "I don’t know which little guy at six wanted to fish but didn’t catch anything, while my dad caught a fish instead, although it was quite big."
Mo Jingchun was unfazed. When it comes to embarrassing childhood stories, they were equally matched. What’s there to back down from?
At night, Candy groggily opened her eyes and found Bun lying beside her head, which explained the fuzzy feeling.
Her brother was watching TV, and Candy glanced out to see it was already dark outside, not knowing what time it was.
Throwing off the blanket, Candy sat up.
"Awake? Go wash your face and hands and get ready to eat. If we weren’t waiting for you, your sister and I would’ve eaten long ago."
Candy touched her warm cheeks, and after being in a daze for a while, she put on her shoes to go to the bathroom.
Opening her eyes to darkness outside confused Candy, making her feel as if she’d just gotten up in the morning.
It took a while for her brain to process that it was actually nighttime.
"Was Candy just sleepwalking?"
Mo Jingchun nodded, "Isn’t it obvious? Even adults experience that; it’s normal for kids to be groggy."
For three people, dinner was quite rich—four dishes and a soup, definitely the standard of a well-off family’s dining.
As for the taste, needless to say, even with a maid cooking, it wouldn’t be as delicious as the dishes cooked by Zhou Yaling, who was a natural-born chef.
After coming out of the bathroom, Candy impatiently sat on the chair and glanced at what dishes were for dinner.
As expected, shredded potatoes were a staple every day.
Today, however, there was a new dish—braised pork.
Smelling the aroma of braised pork, combined with a nap, her stomach was already protesting. Candy’s appetite was wide open, and she couldn’t wait to eat.
Without waiting long, a bowl of fragrant rice was placed in front of her.
"Mmm." Candy’s eyes lit up, and she gave an unreserved thumbs up in praise, "Sis, your braised pork is getting even tastier."
"Really?" Zhou Yaling happily tasted a piece, and maybe it was an illusion, but she felt the taste had indeed improved.
Meanwhile, Candy was secretly gleeful, knowing her sister loved to hear compliments like this.
Compliments wouldn’t cost her anything, so why be stingy?
Especially since her sister, in a good mood, would cook various delicious dishes. A guaranteed win-win deal, why not take it?
Mo Jingchun, eating quietly, saw through it all but didn’t mention it since he was a beneficiary too.
Little Candy seemed to know this too, playfully winking at her brother, which Mo Jingchun returned with a knowing smile.
Perhaps because Candy kept complimenting during dinner, Zhou Yaling became so elated that she even hummed while washing the dishes, much to Mo Jingchun and Candy’s surprise.
"Brother, did I perhaps say too many nice things?"
Mo Jingchun glanced towards the kitchen and nodded in agreement, "You’re not far off."
"Oh dear, then in the future, won’t someone easily sweet-talk my sister away with just a few words?"
Mo Jingchun glanced at the naive Candy, "Thinking too much, your sister is quite savvy."
"Besides, the guys who want to chase your sister don’t even know where they are now."
"Oh, that’s too bad. Wanning is even pregnant with a baby. When will sis have a baby for me to play with?"
Candy’s suggestion of having a baby to play with was completely ignored by Mo Jingchun, who was shocked and asked, "Is Wanning pregnant?"
Candy nodded, "Yes, didn’t you know, brother?"
"I didn’t know."
Mo Jingchun rubbed his chin and pondered for a while, preparing to discuss with Xu Pengfei. Since Wanning is pregnant, she shouldn’t be involved in potentially dangerous work anymore.
