Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Don’t Look at Me With That Disgusting Look
The more Mandy Sinclair thought about it, the more indignant she became.
’Why does Sierra Sullivan get to have it so good?’
’It’s so unfair!’
Once the people carrying the grain had left, Mandy Sinclair immediately ran up the stairs.
"Sierra? Were all those supplies really from your apartment?" Mandy Sinclair feigned surprise. "You had that much stuff in your home? Then why didn’t you open the door when I came asking to borrow some water before? We’re neighbors, living right on top of each other, and now we’re all survivors. We’re supposed to help each other! How could you just watch someone die and do nothing!"
Mandy Sinclair’s voice was honeyed as she spoke, each sentence dripping with insinuation.
Though she was speaking to Sierra, her eyes were fixed on Jayce the entire time.
For days, Mandy Sinclair had been starving. She had lost a lot of weight, making her already large eyes look even bigger now.
Those eyes were now shimmering, her gaze seductive and silky, her expression coy and inviting.
Just as Mandy Sinclair had hoped, Jayce looked over at her.
The moment their eyes met, Mandy Sinclair’s were filled with delight, and her expression turned bashful. "Mr. Everett..."
Although she didn’t know Jayce’s name or his specific status, it didn’t matter.
From the way those men had treated Jayce just now, she knew he was no ordinary person.
’When dealing with a man like that, it’s always right to be a little humble!’
Jayce frowned, looking at Mandy Sinclair with displeasure. "Who told you you could call me that?"
"What?"
Mandy Sinclair stared at Jayce in astonishment, not expecting such a reaction.
She and Sierra were just different types, but she considered herself just as beautiful, if not more so.
In fact, compared to Sierra’s cold and aloof demeanor, she was a vibrant, flirtatious bombshell!
’She makes a move on him, and this is the attitude he gives her?’
Mandy Sinclair’s first reaction was anger.
But she quickly figured it out.
’And here I thought Jayce was different!’
’Turns out he’s cut from the same cloth as Sebastian Crawford!’
Before, Sebastian Crawford hadn’t given her the time of day at Sierra’s door, and had even threatened to hit her.
But later, once they were away from Sierra’s apartment, Sebastian Crawford had acted like a completely different person.
’Men, heh!’
’They’re all the same!’
As these thoughts ran through Mandy Sinclair’s mind, her smile changed. Just as she was about to speak, she heard Jayce’s voice, full of disgust.
"Don’t look at me with those disgusting eyes!"
Mandy Sinclair was utterly stunned, unable to believe her ears.
’Jayce called her... disgusting?’
Jayce pulled Sierra’s hand. "Sierra, let’s go. We’re going home. From now on, when you see people like her, just ignore them. Even looking at her will dirty your eyes..."
SLAM!
The door shut with a dull thud.
The voices stopped abruptly at the same time.
But Mandy Sinclair knew it wasn’t because Jayce had stopped talking. It was because the door was closed, and she could no longer hear him.
Mandy Sinclair’s expression shifted through various shades of anger before she could only shoot a hateful glare at the closed door and turn to go downstairs.
As soon as she got to the bottom of the stairs, she saw Hayden Warren standing at their apartment door.
Hayden Warren’s eyes were filled with mockery and contempt, as well as hatred.
"Whore yourself out in broad daylight, and for what? Did you even stop to think if he’d be interested in you?"
Mandy Sinclair was already in a foul mood, and Hayden Warren’s words made her blood boil.
"Hayden Warren! You son of a bitch! What right do you have to talk to me like that?"
Hayden Warren sneered. "You think I don’t know about you and Sebastian Crawford? Who are you trying to fool here!"
"When did I ever pretend? I never even thought about pretending! So what if I slept with Sebastian Crawford? If I hadn’t, you would’ve fucking starved to death long ago! If you’re so high and mighty, why don’t you stop touching all that food and water! You ate it, and now you look down on me? What right do you have? If you were as capable as Sebastian Crawford, would I have needed to grovel like that?"
Hayden Warren might not be capable, but he had an incredibly fragile ego.
Hearing Mandy Sinclair mock him enraged him. "What’s so great about Sebastian Crawford? He was just a Superpower User! So what if he was? Isn’t he dead now? What good did it do him!"
Two days ago, Sebastian Crawford’s body had been thrown from upstairs and devoured by a swarm of Dunescrawlers, leaving not a single scrap of flesh behind!
As for his bones, they were buried in the sand!
’That bastard who dared to sleep with my wife deserved to have his body desecrated!’
Mandy Sinclair sneered. "What are you so proud of? If Mr. Everett hadn’t killed Sebastian Crawford, would you have had the chance to throw his body downstairs? You don’t even have the guts to speak loudly in front of him!"
With that, Mandy Sinclair walked into the apartment.
As she passed Hayden Warren, she deliberately bumped his shoulder. "Don’t just stand there blocking the way! Go pack your things! In a little while, this place won’t just be ours anymore."
Hayden Warren was about to lash out, but after hearing Mandy’s words, he deflated like a popped balloon and hung his head.
This was the apartment he’d worked to buy, the apartment he’d spent a fortune hiring a designer to renovate!
And now, he had to just give it up for others to live in!
’How could he possibly accept that!’
Mandy Sinclair didn’t wait for Hayden Warren’s response, nor could she be bothered with him. She went into the apartment on her own and started moving everything she thought was useful into the master bedroom.
Their family of four was allowed to keep the largest room—the master bedroom.
The master bedroom had its own en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet. The total area was about sixty-something square meters, which was quite large.
If they really squeezed things in, they could still fit a lot.
Mandy Sinclair and her two children quickly packed, moving everything they deemed useful into the master bedroom.
After she was done, the rest of the apartment looked like it had been stripped bare—it was almost absurdly clean and empty.
But even so, Mandy Sinclair still felt resentful.
She really didn’t want other people living in her home.
But she couldn’t produce any supplies, and she didn’t dare challenge the authorities, so she could only swallow her pride and accept it!
At this thought, Mandy Sinclair looked up toward the ceiling.
’Sierra got to keep her apartment, she doesn’t have to share it with anyone. She must be so happy right now, right?’
’There was no way I was going to let Sierra stay that happy!’
...
Sierra was led back into the apartment by Jayce, and they sat down on the sofa.
"The apartment is safe for now, but! Everyone in the entire base probably knows you have supplies now," Jayce said in a low voice. "From now on, you have to be more careful. Don’t go out alone. If you need anything done, I’ll go with you."
’Go out?’
When she heard those words, Sierra was a little dazed.
From the start of the apocalypse until today, she hadn’t once stepped outside.
’Maybe... it’s time to plan on going out?’
