Chapter 150: Chapter 150: You Can, We Can’t!

"What?" Nathan Thorne was utterly shocked.

Candice Tate didn’t notice his shock and continued to look at him curiously.

"What’s your Superpower, big brother? And what level are you?"

Nathan Thorne, "..."

’He’d never known what it meant to ask for humiliation before!’

’But now, he understood the meaning of the phrase all too well!’

Just moments ago, he was thumping his chest, declaring he was a Superpower User who could protect Candice Tate.

And the result?

Candice Tate was a rare Wood Ability User, and she was already Third Level!

Candice Tate only looked about five or six years old!

A five-year-old Third Level Superpower User!

’If she got any older, just how powerful would she become?’

Nathan Thorne didn’t dare to dwell on it, but he desperately wanted to poach Candice Tate!

The thought had barely formed in his mind, and before he could even consider it further, a hand clamped around his neck.

Even though he was grabbed from behind, Nathan Thorne still jumped in fright. "What are you doing? Is this a murder attempt?"

Jayce snorted coldly. "Not murder! A warning! I’m warning you in all seriousness, don’t get any funny ideas! Candice Tate isn’t someone you can take away. If you dare to think about it again, you won’t be leaving either! Got it?"

"I wasn’t think—"

Nathan Thorne explained frantically, trying to struggle.

Jayce didn’t listen to his explanation at all. "Don’t give me any of that nonsense. I don’t believe it, and I don’t want to hear it. You know what you were thinking, and so do I!"

Nathan Thorne, "..."

Realizing it was useless to argue, Nathan Thorne could only say, "I was just thinking about it..."

"Even thinking about it isn’t allowed!"

Feeling the pressure on his neck increase, Nathan Thorne hastily said, "Alright, alright, I won’t think about it! Can’t I just not think about it?"

Hearing Nathan Thorne say that, Jayce finally released his hand. "As long as you’re not thinking about it!"

Nathan Thorne glanced at Candice Tate again, then let out a long sigh.

’A Wood Ability User!’

’A Third Level Wood Ability User, at that!’

’If only Dawnlight Base had a Wood Ability User like her. Even if we couldn’t achieve total freedom with fruits and vegetables, we could at least eat some every now and then.’

’Of course, the most important thing is, we’d definitely have enough potatoes and sweet potatoes!’

’The survivors at the base could finally improve their diet!’

He didn’t dare think about poaching Candice Tate anymore.

Now, he could only hope that among the people he brought, at least one would awaken a Wood Element Ability!

’There has to be at least one, right?’

’Of course, the more the merrier would be even better!’ 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Jayce watched the expressions change on Nathan Thorne’s face and patted his shoulder lightly. "Don’t worry! There are fifty people! One of them is bound to succeed!"

Nathan Thorne nodded. "That’s what I was thinking, too!"

’If even I could awaken a Healing Ability, with so many people, it’s impossible that not a single one has a Wood Element Ability, right?’

’That would be too ridiculous!’

Just as they were speaking, Kevin Everett walked over.

Seeing Kevin Everett, Nathan Thorne subconsciously sat up straighter and wiped the cheeky grin off his face.

Kevin Everett chuckled. "Nathan, no need to be so tense. Your father and I go way back, though you’ve never met me. We’re just having a casual chat, no need to be so nervous."

Only then did Nathan Thorne relax a little. "Okay, I’ll listen to Mr. Everett!"

"Your base..."

Kevin Everett had just said it was a casual chat, but this so-called "casual chat" was all related to the situation at the base.

The two of them fell into a pattern of questions and answers, exchanging many methods for base construction and survivor settlement.

Nathan Thorne listened very attentively, even taking out a pen and paper later to jot down everything he found useful.

Seeing Nathan Thorne’s earnest expression, Kevin Everett was quite satisfied.

’As long as he’s willing to learn with an open mind, he won’t treat the survivors at his base too poorly.’

’That’s good enough!’

You can’t expect everyone to be a selfless saint, nor can you expect them to do everything perfectly.

As long as they don’t commit evil and don’t create suffering for the survivors, they’re already pretty good people!

The two of them talked for over an hour.

During that time, Sierra Sullivan and Jayce would occasionally chime in, but for the most part, they just listened intently.

It wasn’t until Sierra Sullivan saw Candice Tate start to yawn, her eyes turning red, that she spoke up during a pause in Kevin Everett’s talking. "Candice Tate is getting sleepy, so I’ll take her back to bed now!"

Because there was no entertainment in the apocalypse and no electricity, nights relied on candles or lamps for light. With nothing much to do, people naturally went to bed early.

Candice Tate had a very good sleep schedule. She was usually asleep by eight-something and never later than nine.

It was almost nine o’clock now, so it was normal for her to be sleepy.

Kevin Everett lifted his wrist to check the time and quickly said, "It’s all my fault. I lose track of time when I get to talking. You’ve all worked hard today. Alright, everyone go get some rest! Sierra, is Nathan staying with you guys?"

"Sure!" Sierra Sullivan didn’t refuse.

Her apartment had several rooms.

Candice Tate occupied one room, she and Jayce shared another, and three were empty. They were fully furnished and ready to be lived in.

Nathan Thorne rubbed his hands together. "Staying with you guys? Oh, that’s too much! Won’t I be too much trouble?"

Jayce smiled. "Then don’t stay. I’ll arrange a dorm for you—"

"No need!" Nathan Thorne immediately refused. "On second thought, between friends like us, what’s a little trouble! Friends should bother each other, that’s how you get closer! Let’s go, let’s go! We should get going!"

In the end, Nathan Thorne still followed them to the thirty-sixth floor.

After stepping inside the apartment, Nathan Thorne blinked in disbelief.

This place!

It was too nice!

Most importantly, it was spotlessly clean!

There was practically no dust to be seen!

For a moment, Nathan Thorne even felt as if he had traveled through time after walking through that door!

Traveled back to before the apocalypse!

’Could a place like this really exist in the apocalypse?’

"Jayce, show him around a bit. I’m going to get Candice Tate washed up and put her to bed," Sierra Sullivan instructed.

Jayce quickly nodded. "Okay."

As he agreed, Jayce followed Sierra Sullivan and Candice Tate into the master bedroom.

He filled the bathtub with water of a suitable temperature for Candice Tate’s bath, then walked out, pulling the door closed behind him.

Seeing Nathan Thorne still looking around the apartment with great interest, Jayce walked over and pulled him toward a bedroom.

"Alright, stop looking for now. I’ll show you to your room. You can stay here until you head back!"

"I get my own room?" Nathan Thorne was a bit overwhelmed by the generosity. "The sofa looks perfectly fine, I could just sleep there..."

"You might be fine with it, but we’re not!" Jayce said without even thinking.

"You’ve got a real sharp tongue, you know that?" Nathan Thorne complained. "I have no idea how Sierra Sullivan puts up with you!"
