Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Doesn’t Know What Nervousness Is
Sierra Sullivan didn’t know what they were thinking. She just sat down next to Candice Tate, picking up fruit and popping it into her mouth.
She wasn’t sure if it was because her Superpower had been enhanced, but she felt completely parched.
It was like she was made of dry sand, about to fall apart, desperately needing water just to hold herself together.
The description might sound strange, but it was the absolute truth.
She popped cherry tomatoes into her mouth one by one, and they were gone after a couple of quick chews.
The cucumbers were crisp and full of water, and the crunching sound alone was oddly satisfying.
As for things like bok choy, leafy greens, potatoes, eggplants, and peppers, there was no need to eat them raw.
Sierra Sullivan carefully checked Candice Tate’s condition. Seeing that she still had most of her Superpower left, Sierra took out several types of fruit seeds.
White sugar melons, yellow-skinned cantaloupes, green-skinned honeydews, and strawberries.
These fruits all grew on vines, so when Candice accelerated their growth, they wouldn’t take up as much space as fruit trees, making them a more suitable choice.
Candice Tate said nothing, simply picking up the seeds and getting to work.
The other plants were one thing, but when the bright red strawberries appeared before his eyes, Leo Lowell’s face lit up.
It had been several months since the apocalypse began, and he had almost forgotten what strawberries even tasted like.
Now, smelling their sweet fragrance, his mouth moved unconsciously as saliva flooded in.
He didn’t want to be like this and even felt a little embarrassed, but he couldn’t control it at all.
Sierra Sullivan heard a loud GULP and knew it was the sound of someone swallowing hard.
She instinctively glanced over at Leo Lowell.
Seeing him just staring longingly at the strawberries without making a move, Sierra Sullivan found it a little strange.
"What’s wrong? Why are you just staring? Go on, eat! Don’t be shy!"
In that short amount of time, Candice Tate had already grown several hundred pounds of strawberries.
Strawberries don’t keep well, not even for long in a pocket dimension.
And that was to say nothing of the fact that Leo Lowell’s pocket dimension was already stuffed to the brim.
After a moment of thought, Sierra Sullivan suggested, "Why don’t you take some of the cabbages out of your dimension and set them aside for now. We’ll load up all these strawberries and fruits first. You can come back for the cabbages this afternoon."
Leo Lowell had no objections and immediately sprang into action.
Seeing him jump to it without a moment’s hesitation, Sierra Sullivan was momentarily at a loss for words.
’Isn’t he a little too obedient?’
’Does someone really need to be this compliant?’
’Or is it just because he’s young?’
While she was thinking this, Sierra Sullivan didn’t stop him.
Thankfully, Leo Lowell had some sense. He didn’t put all the fruit away, leaving some out for them.
Sierra Sullivan paid him no more mind. She picked a few strawberries, handing them to Jayce first before taking one and popping it into her own mouth.
The strawberries were huge, each one as big as the palm of her hand.
She took a bite, and the sweet, juicy flavor was simply divine.
Sierra Sullivan found she couldn’t stop, eating more than a dozen in one go before finally letting out a long sigh of satisfaction.
"These are so delicious!"
Before the apocalypse, she’d had plenty of money and had tried all sorts of strawberries, some of which were astronomically expensive, but none could compare to the ones she was eating now.
Seeing that Candice Tate and the others had also finished eating, Sierra Sullivan stood up with them and headed downstairs.
The group soon arrived on the 10th floor.
When Kevin Everett saw them, he didn’t immediately get down to business. Instead, he asked with a warm smile, "What brings you here at this hour? Have you eaten yet?"
’Eat?’
Sierra Sullivan was taken aback by the question.
’Didn’t we just have breakfast?’
But on second thought, breakfast seemed like it had been several hours ago.
Time always flew by when they were cultivating their Superpowers, so much so that they hadn’t even noticed it passing.
Now that Kevin Everett mentioned it, she realized they had missed a meal.
But she wasn’t actually hungry.
After all, she had just eaten so many fruits and vegetables.
Before they could answer, Kevin Everett looked at their expressions and already knew what was going on.
"One look tells me you haven’t eaten. I know you’re all busy, but your health is your most important asset. No matter what, you have to eat your meals on time. I’ll have Aunt Shelby make you all something."
Sierra Sullivan had long since started to think of this place as a second home, so she didn’t stand on ceremony with Kevin Everett. She accepted with a cheerful smile, "Okay! Thanks, Mr. Everett."
He was happy to see Sierra Sullivan agree so readily and smiled broadly.
He really liked her straightforward, unpretentious attitude.
Leo Lowell, on the other hand, was a bit timid.
"Base Leader, I... I shouldn’t eat here..."
Before he could finish, Kevin Everett’s gaze fell on him.
"If you don’t eat here, where are you going to eat? You came here to work for me. If I don’t even offer you a meal, what would people say if word got out? How would that make me look? What would everyone think of me?"
Leo Lowell grew anxious at his words. "Base Leader... I... That’s not what I meant..."
"If that’s not what you meant, then just stay and have a proper meal. With things as they are, it’s just a simple home-cooked meal, not some lavish feast. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about."
In the end, Leo Lowell didn’t dare refuse again, but he still had mixed feelings.
In their current circumstances, a simple home-cooked meal was a rarer luxury than any of the lavish feasts from before the apocalypse.
Jayce stood up. "You guys talk, I’m going to the kitchen to help."
Leo Lowell had barely even warmed his seat before he heard this and scrambled to his feet. "I... I’ll help, too."
Jayce shot Leo Lowell a glare. "No need! You just sit tight. I’ll have another mission for you in a bit."
’This kid might be young, but he’s already full of little schemes. Trying to show off his cooking skills, is he?’
’I’m definitely not giving him that chance!’
Jayce strode into the kitchen.
Leo Lowell was left standing there, unsure of what to do.
’Was it wrong to be hardworking?’
’Why did Captain Everett seem so unhappy?’
As a man who had seen it all, Kevin Everett had already figured out what was going on.
Kevin Everett waved Leo Lowell over. "Don’t mind him! Sit down. We really do have some important matters to discuss."
The supplies were still in his pocket dimension, and there was plenty for him to do in the afternoon, so of course, they needed to get things organized first.
Seeing Kevin Everett’s incredibly serious expression, Leo Lowell wasn’t as nervous as before. He nodded and slowly sat back down.
When it came to official business, Kevin Everett’s entire demeanor became serious and solemn.
Leo Lowell was already on edge, and seeing this side of Kevin Everett only made him more nervous.
But fortunately, though he was nervous, he was still competent.
He listened to the tasks Kevin Everett laid out and agreed to each one.
In contrast to Leo Lowell’s anxiety, Candice Tate seemed much more composed.
After all, she was young and powerful, and she didn’t yet know the meaning of the word "nervous."
