Chapter 108: Chapter 109: This Person Deserves to Die
Struck by the enormous arrow, the Aberrant Beast shrieked before collapsing to the ground.
After its body twitched a few times, it went completely still.
Sierra Sullivan didn’t even spare the Aberrant Beast a glance, immediately running toward the person trapped in the sand.
She used her Superpower to disperse the surrounding sand, easily pulling the person out.
"Are you okay?" Sierra Sullivan asked.
The person didn’t respond. They had probably passed out from the pain.
Sierra Sullivan looked at the people who had rushed over. "Get him back to the car, now. Bandage his wounds as best you can. We’ll deal with everything else when we get back."
The two acknowledged her and started carrying the injured person toward the nearest vehicle.
One of them knocked on the car door.
But the door didn’t open.
Sierra Sullivan hadn’t gone far. She stayed to keep watch over their surroundings, guarding against another sneak attack from the Aberrant Beasts.
In fact, Sierra Sullivan’s caution was justified.
Aberrant Beasts weren’t human, let alone honorable fighters.
Their eyes held only slaughter and bloodlust.
They charged at the sight of humans.
In that short time, Sierra Sullivan had already killed one Aberrant Beast and repelled two more.
But the door to the vehicle remained shut.
Before, it was possible the people inside hadn’t heard the knock. But now, that was clearly not the reason.
The people inside were deliberately not opening the door.
Realizing this, Sierra Sullivan’s expression grew even colder.
They had left the relative safety of their base specifically to rescue these people.
And now, they were fighting and dying against Aberrant Beasts for the sake of these people’s safety.
It was one thing for these people to be useless, but to be so cowardly that they refused to open the door for them...
’What is the meaning of this?’
’Do they want to watch us die?’
Sierra Sullivan’s patience was wearing thin. While still keeping an eye on her surroundings, she backed up to the vehicle.
"Listen up in there. I’m not breaking down this door because I’m giving you one chance."
"Open it now, and you might live."
"If you keep it shut, I’ll destroy the door and smash all the windows. Then, we’ll see just how long you last!"
The moment Sierra Sullivan finished speaking, the sealed door was thrown open from the inside.
A middle-aged woman had opened it.
She was deeply dissatisfied.
"We’re just ordinary people, we can’t help you right now! We kept the door shut so you wouldn’t have to worry about us!"
"You’re telling us to open the door? What if an Aberrant Beast rushes in and hurts us? Aren’t you people supposed to exist to protect us? Our lives are the most important thing!"
"You’re just a young girl, judging by your voice, but how can you be so vicious? Threatening to destroy the door and windows... are you trying to get us killed? Does your superior know you act like this? When we get back to the base, I’m going to report you for this!"
Watching the woman ramble on, Sierra Sullivan scoffed.
Without even taking a step forward, she enveloped the woman in sand and yanked her right out of the vehicle.
The woman was completely unprepared. The moment she hit the ground, she fell flat on her face, getting a mouthful of sand.
Sierra Sullivan looked at the two Superpower Users carrying the injured man. "What are you staring at? Get in the car! Treat his wounds! And close the door."
The two didn’t dare hesitate for another second and immediately got into the vehicle.
SLAM.
The door was shut from the inside.
The woman on the ground heard the door slam shut. Forgetting the sand in her mouth, she scrambled to her feet.
"Why did you close the door? I’m still out here!"
"Open the door! Open the door right now!"
She yelled at the top of her lungs, pounding her fists on the car door.
But it was useless.
The door remained sealed tight, showing no sign of opening.
Realizing she couldn’t get the door open, the woman turned to Sierra Sullivan. "What are you doing?! I’m still out here! Make them open the door! Did you hear me?"
Sierra Sullivan laughed coldly. "You tell me to open it, and I should just obey? How embarrassing would that be for me? Weren’t you going to report me to my superior? Well, you’d better try a little harder. Walk to the base yourself. That’s the only way you’ll get to file your complaint. Otherwise, you’ll just die on the way."
Terror filled the woman’s eyes. "You... you’re joking, right? You can’t be serious, right?"
’She wants me to walk to the base?’
’I don’t even know where the base is!’
In this raging sandstorm, she couldn’t see ten meters ahead, let alone figure out which way to go.
She wouldn’t even see an Aberrant Beast coming.
In a situation like this, telling her to walk to the base was no different from telling her to go die.
’Sierra Sullivan wants me to die!’
The woman was filled with both terror and rage.
"You! You! You... you young girl, how can your heart be so poisonous?"
"Me? Poisonous?" Sierra Sullivan scoffed. "We came to rescue you, to protect you, and you shut our people out. And now you have the nerve to call me poisonous?"
"I was thinking of the lives of everyone on this vehicle!" the woman said, as if it were obvious. "There are dozens of us! Is the life of that injured man more important than all of ours? Isn’t he a Superpower User? Isn’t he supposed to be strong? It’s just a small injury, why is he acting like he’s about to die..."
Sierra Sullivan had only been about fifty percent angry, but after hearing the woman’s words, her rage shot up to one hundred percent.
’This person!’
’She deserves to die!’
Sierra Sullivan’s eyes turned completely cold. "Your life, and the lives of everyone in this vehicle, are not more important than the life of a single member of my rescue team! Since you claim you were acting for everyone in the car, let’s see if anyone in there is willing to open the door for you."
"If someone opens it, get in. I won’t stop you. If no one opens it and you can’t get back in, well, then your life is in fate’s hands. Good luck!"
Leaving her with those final words, Sierra Sullivan didn’t give her another glance and walked toward Jayce.
Jayce was currently being besieged by three Aberrant Beasts. She needed to help him; she had neither the time nor the inclination to waste another breath on this woman.
Seeing Sierra Sullivan turn and walk away, the woman was finally consumed by fear.
"Don’t go! You can’t leave! What will I do if you leave?"
She screamed frantically and lunged toward Sierra Sullivan, trying to stop her.
But she had barely taken a step before her foot sank into the sand, and she fell over again.
When she struggled to lift her head, Sierra Sullivan was already gone.
Although no Aberrant Beasts were heading her way, she was still trembling with fear.
She didn’t dare go after Sierra Sullivan again. Her only choice was to desperately scramble up and pound on the vehicle door behind her.
"Open the door! Hurry up and open the door for me!"
"We’re in this together! You can’t just leave me to die!"
"Not opening the door earlier was a group decision! You can’t abandon me!"
