Chapter 894: Chapter 377: The True Stature of a Strong One—You Have No Choice_2
All the villages they passed afterward flew blood-red War Axe banners, and only half an hour later, when they reached their destination, did something finally look different.
The small town occupied by the Lake God, or rather... a fishing village? It wasn’t very large.
This was a white-wood village half built over the water, all of its houses constructed from an off‑white kind of timber.
It had quite an exotic feel to it.
Beside the village lay a lake more than a dozen kilometers across, its surface area quite considerable.
The water was about two meters deep; fish could be seen leaping on the surface, and many rafts and small boats were drawn up along the shore.
Clearly, this place had plenty of resources.
Places like this had always been hubs where people gathered; as long as floods didn’t occur frequently, it could easily grow into a Great City in the future.
For now, however, it wasn’t very big.
What was somewhat unexpected was that there were no troops standing Guard in this fishing village.
The residents all wore the look of a peaceful, undisturbed life.
What surprised Lear even more was... he didn’t see any Temple here.
What was going on?
At this moment, the villagers below also saw the sky‑covering Crowned Eagle-horned Beast Knights approaching.
Seeing them hovering overhead, they immediately fell into panic.
One by one, they stared tensely at the sky.
Lear noticed this and frowned slightly.
He waved his hand, having the army pull back a bit from the fishing village, then rode the Swamp Giant-Horned Deer King, taking Isa and two squads of Crowned Eagle-horned Beast Knights down to land in an open space in the village.
Right now, the surrounding residents were watching their group anxiously, not daring to come close at all.
"Who’s in charge here?"
Seeing this, Isa frowned, stepped forward, and loudly questioned the crowd.
Just then, an old man with graying hair hurried quickly toward them from another path.
His coarse clothes, washed till they were white, carried a thick fishy smell that assaulted the nose as he came near, like salted fish just pulled out of a jar.
He squeezed through the nervous crowd, approached them with a placating smile, and bent at the waist.
"My lord, what are your orders?"
Hearing this, Isa subconsciously turned her head to look at Lear.
It wasn’t her place to make decisions here today.
"Your Majesty..."
Lear waved his hand, stepped forward, and fixed his gaze on the old man.
"Do you know of the Lake God?"
A trace of confusion appeared on that deeply wrinkled face.
"My lord, who is the Lake God? We’ve never heard of such a one."
He’s not lying...
Could I have come to the wrong place?
But this was the only settlement nearby, and it was right beside a lake; there was no way...
Lear’s brows furrowed.
As he pondered, something seemed to occur to him, and he spoke in a low voice.
"Take us to the lakeside..."
Faced with this youth whose bearing was so imposing and whose gaze carried a heavy pressure, the old man didn’t dare object, and immediately stepped forward to lead the way.
After circling around through this cluster of white‑wood buildings, they arrived at the lakeshore.
At this moment, a large number of floating structures could be seen on the water’s surface.
The foundations below were padded with a plant similar to rice straw, whose powerful buoyancy allowed houses to be built three or four stories high.
Lear had no interest in these; as soon as he reached the water’s edge, he immediately noticed something wrong... there also seemed to be buildings beneath the surface.
"What’s down there?"
"That used to be our territory, before it was drowned..."
The old man’s tone grew somewhat complicated as he spoke.
Only then did Lear understand.
It looked like the Lake God’s Temple was down there.
But he wasn’t very good at underwater combat... if he tried to force things, he might not be able to take it.
Better see how the other side reacted first; maybe there was another way to handle this.
With that in mind, he moved a few steps closer to the water.
With a slight movement of his will, that aura unique to a Divine Spirit leaked out from within his body.
Although the Original Plane did not allow power above Level 15 to exist, the aura within the soul did not fall under that rule’s restriction.
In an instant, all the villagers in the fishing village felt an immense pressure. They couldn’t see where Lear was, yet they were crushed to the point of struggling to breathe, sweat pouring from them.
This was the bloodline intimidation of a High Tier lifeform against lesser creatures.
Even if Lear did nothing, this pressure alone was enough to make the entire village collapse...
A moment later, gurulu~ a string of large and small Bubbles suddenly rose from the previously calm surface of the water, which began to boil violently.
Like water brought to a rolling boil.
The old man also sensed something was wrong by now; he instinctively took a few steps back, afraid some monster would crawl out and eat him.
Two or three minutes later, splash~ the boiling surface suddenly burst open.
A dozen or so fish‑gilled fishmen, each holding a bone fork as clear as carved jade and exuding a fierce, Frenzy aura, rose from the water.
Fins grew along their spines, running down from the neck; their eyes were deep blue, and their faces were rather handsome, not ugly at all.
Their lower bodies were those of fish, ending in powerful tails.
Under the Lake God’s command: Tide Manipulators, Ultimate Creatures, Level 1 Star...
The instant he saw those fishmen, basic information about them surfaced in Lear’s mind.
So it really is here!
His mood immediately improved quite a bit.
Just then, the tall fishman in the lead stepped on the waves and came straight up to the shore.
His gaze held a trace of hostility as he looked at Lear.
"Divine Spirit of the Swamp... why have you come to my territory?!"
Every Divine Spirit’s power was unique; sensing another’s power Attributes was as simple as seeing the color of a light—nothing difficult.
And Lear had not concealed the slightest bit of his earlier pressure.
Lear’s gaze remained calm.
"Lake God... I want to make a deal with you."
The other party, just like Lear earlier, was also possessing his own subordinate.
