Chapter 92: “...I heard you.”

Inside the illusion, Mirek heard her.

At first, the sound did not make sense.

It came faintly, threading through the heavy pressure that surrounded him, slipping between each strained breath he forced into his lungs. The voice was familiar, too familiar, and for a moment, he did not trust it.

His jaw tightened.

The weight pressing down on his body increased again, forcing his shoulders lower. His legs trembled under the strain, his muscles pulling tight as he tried to remain standing.

"...It’s not real... it’s an illusion..."

The words reached him more clearly this time.

Mirek’s eyes narrowed slightly as he stared ahead at the corridor, at Lavayla’s figure walking further away from him without pause. She did not turn.

Everything in front of him remained unchanged.

His hand clenched tighter, fresh blood slipping from his palm and dripping down his fingers.

An illusion.

He let out a slow breath, though it came out uneven, dragged through a chest that felt constricted under the pressure.

"...You don’t need to complete it..."

Her voice spoke again, clearer and closer.

Mirek’s gaze flickered, his focus wavering.

If this was part of the test, then this voice could also be part of it.

His expression hardened.

But he listened.

"...I’m here... come back..."

The pressure descended again, heavier this time, forcing his body downward. His knee struck the ground, the impact sending a dull shock up through his leg. His back bent under the weight, his head lowering despite his effort to keep it raised.

His breath grew harsher.

The ground beneath him remained solid and unmoving, pressing back against him as the force continued to push him down.

Mirek lifted his head slowly.

Her words repeated in his mind, each one clear and steady.

Not real.

Illusion.

Come back.

He drew in a breath, deeper this time, forcing it past the tightness in his chest. The air still felt heavy, but he held it, controlled it, and then released it slowly.

Again.

He inhaled, held it in then exhaled.

The rhythm was uneven at first, his chest hitching under the pressure. His muscles resisted, his body straining as he forced himself to continue.

He closed his eyes.

The moment darkness settled behind his eyelids, the pressure did not lessen but pressed harder as if it realized what he was doing.

His shoulders dipped lower, his arms trembling as he braced against the force. His breathing faltered for a second, but he forced it back into rhythm, dragging each breath in and out.

The chaotic energy stirred.

It was faint at first, buried beneath the overwhelming weight pressing into him. But it was there, moving sluggishly through his body, disrupted by the force.

Mirek focused on it.

He guided his breath again, slower now, deeper, forcing his body to follow the rhythm he imposed.

Inhale.

The energy shifted slightly.

Exhale.

It moved again, responding in small increments.

The pressure increased, bearing down on him with greater force, but the movement of the energy did not stop.

It resisted.

So did he.

His breathing steadied, each inhale drawn in through sheer will, each exhale controlled despite the strain.

The energy began to circulate.

At first, it was uneven, clashing against the pressure that sought to pin it in place. His chest tightened, a sharp pain spreading outward as the flow resisted the force pressing against it.

He did not stop.

His focus deepened, his awareness narrowing entirely to the movement within him.

The energy gathered, then pushed forward.

It met resistance.

It pushed again.

The pressure bore down harder, forcing a sharp tremor through his body. His muscles tightened, his jaw clenching as the strain reached deeper.

A sharp, internal tearing sensation followed, spreading through his chest, his breathing stuttering for a moment before he forced it steady again.

He continued.

The energy moved again, this time stronger, pushing through the obstruction.

Then it flowed.

Slowly at first, then faster.

The pressure did not stop. It continued to descend, pressing into him from every direction. But the energy now moved against it, circulating through his body, strengthening with each pass.

Mirek’s brows furrowed as he felt it.

More energy followed.

It did not come from within him alone.

It pressed in from outside, seeping into his body through the very force that sought to crush him. It entered without resistance, merging with the flow he had already established.

He accepted it all and absorbed it.

Each breath drew in more.

Each cycle strengthened the flow.

The pain remained, sharp and persistent, but it no longer disrupted him. His body adapted, enduring the strain as the energy continued to build.

His awareness sank deeper.

The pressure, the pain, the illusion around him all faded into the background as he focused entirely on the cultivation.

Time lost meaning.

Only the flow remained.

Only the steady rhythm of breath and energy.

And beneath it all, her voice.

It was faint, constant, and anchoring.

Whether this world was real or not no longer mattered.

Whether she belonged to this place or not did not matter.

His decision remained the same.

He would be wherever she was.

As long as she was there, he would not turn away.

...

Mirek’s eyes snapped open.

The first thing he heard was her voice, close to his ear, steady and urgent.

"I’m here. Come back."

Warmth pressed against him.

His body registered it before his mind fully caught up. The weight around him had vanished, replaced by something solid and unfamiliar.

Delicate arms were wrapped around him.

He lowered his gaze slowly.

Dark hair filled his vision, long and slightly tousled, unlike the neatly arranged one he’d seen in the illusion, resting against his chest.

Lavayla.

His arm moved before he could think.

It lifted, slowly and wrapped around her back, pulling her closer. His hand settled against her shoulder, his fingers tightening slightly as if to confirm that she was real.

Her body jerked in surprise with the movement, then drew closer into him.

For a brief moment, neither of them spoke.

He held her there, his grip firm, his breathing still heavy but steadying with each passing second.

Then his head lowered slightly, his voice rough but clear as it broke the silence.

"...I heard you."

[Hi guys! I completely forgot to ask this in the previous author’s note

Could you please describe Lavayla’s and Mirek’s personalities on their character profile? Like, how you see them or what traits stand out to you.

I’d really love to hear your take on them—it actually helps me shape their characters better going forward.

Pretty please?]
