Chapter 221: Rough beauty.

She knew she was still not strong enough to take on anything truly huge without risk, but that did not matter. What mattered was that she was getting stronger every minute she stayed out here. Her body was learning, her instincts were sharpening, and the crystal cores waiting inside these zombies were adding up one by one. That was enough for now. One group down. Another group cleared. Another body falling. Bai Li kept at it with the same hard focus, and from the windows above, the residents could only stare in horror at the sight below, because what they saw absolutely terrified them to their cores.

..

..

"Holy crap, everyone look outside right now! Bai Li has gone completely mad! She is literally charging straight into the zombie horde and killing every single one of them! I have been watching and counting, and she has already killed twenty-seven zombies in less than ten minutes!"

Wang Hao 302: "Are you serious right now? Twenty-seven? Since when are those monsters that easy to kill? You make it sound like she is just out there casually slicing up melons and vegetables."

Wang Zhichao 203: "@Wang Hao, I swear it is the absolute truth, she is still out there killing them right this second! Just look out your window!"

Wang Hao did not even finish reading the group chat before he rushed across his living room. His slippers nearly skidded out from under him as he reached the balcony, grabbed the railing, and leaned out to look below. The second he saw the courtyard, his whole face froze.

Bai Li was really down there.

And she was not just fighting in some careful, half-panicked way either. She was charging directly into the zombie horde like she had no fear at all, moving so fast that his eyes almost could not keep up. Her Tang sword flashed through the air with a sharp silver arc, and every time the blade came down, another zombie dropped. She would step in, twist at the waist to avoid a clawing hand, then strike again before the creature even had time to stagger. It looked less like ordinary fighting and more like one woman tearing through a pack of monsters with her bare will.

The zombies kept coming at her in a messy wave, but Bai Li did not look trapped. She looked like she was cutting a path through them on purpose. One zombie lunged from the front, and she met it with a hard slash that split its neck. Another came from the side, and she kicked it hard enough to send it stumbling into its own pack. A third tried to rush behind her, but Bai Li turned so smoothly it almost looked lazy, then brought her sword around in a quick reverse cut that stopped it cold. Her movements were not random at all. Every step, every twist, every swing had a clear purpose, and that was what made the whole scene so frightening to watch.

Wang Hao stared, mouth slightly open, as the pile of dead bodies around her grew higher and higher.

Soon, the courtyard floor was covered in rotting corpses. Arms lay twisted in ugly directions. Heads rolled away and stopped near the curb. Some of the zombies still twitched for a few seconds after falling, but Bai Li never gave them a second chance. She moved from one target to the next without waste, without hesitation, and without any sign of panic. If anything, she looked more energized the longer she fought. Her body seemed to have endless strength, and even after repeated swings of the heavy sword, she never gave the impression that her arms were getting tired.

That was what shocked Wang Hao the most.

He had seen people in the building try to fight zombies before. Most of them lasted a few seconds before they were either running, screaming, or completely frozen in place. Bai Li was different. She had the calm of someone who already knew exactly where each enemy would move. Her steps were sharp and light. Her breathing stayed steady. Even when three zombies rushed her together, she simply changed her angle, let one miss by inches, knocked the second off balance with her shoulder, and cut down the third before the others could recover.

Up in the building, the group chat was exploding.

Wang Zhichao 203: "I am serious, I am not making this up! She already killed another five! It is like she is not even fighting zombies, she is just collecting them and throwing them away!"

Someone else typed, "Is she a monster too?"

Another resident replied, "No monster fights that neatly."

Wang Hao kept watching from the balcony, almost afraid to blink. Bai Li darted across the open ground, then suddenly pivoted and plunged straight into another small group of zombies near a parked car. She did not circle them. She did not wait for an opening. She just went in. The first zombie she met got its face smashed sideways by the flat of her sword. The second zombie got its throat cut clean through. The third one reached too late and received a sharp kick to the chest that sent it tumbling into the road. Before it could rise again, Bai Li was already on top of it, finishing it with a short decisive strike.

The whole thing was so fast that it looked almost unreal.

There was a strange rough beauty in the way she fought. Every movement had purpose. Every turn of her wrist made sense. She never wasted a second swinging wide when a short cut would do. She never stood still long enough to become an easy target. Even her footwork looked practiced, like she was turning the courtyard itself into part of her battlefield. She would step around a corpse, use a broken curb to shift her weight, then spring forward into the next attack before the zombie crowd could properly surround her.

Wang Hao muttered under his breath, "She really is crazy."
