Chapter 451: Chapter 369: It Was I Who Made Her Unhappy
Before she could speak, the Yan Yan Tribe’s Witch chimed in softly, "I must be the one who upset this Witch Disciple. I only said I wanted to see the houses in your tribe, but it seems the young lady isn’t very willing."
As she spoke, she furrowed her brow slightly, putting on an apologetic expression.
Yuan Lang’s smile instantly vanished. He bent down, leaning close to Wu Yue, and looked into her eyes. "You’re not happy?"
Wu Yue scoffed. "Do I look happy to you?"
Yuan Lang chuckled. He knew that after last night, Wu Yue had no love for the Yan Yan Tribe’s witch, and he didn’t want to spoil her mood.
He took her hand and started walking toward the trading ground. "The tribes have brought a lot of things. I’ll go with you to have a look."
Watching them leave, an intense coldness flashed in the Yan Yan Tribe Witch’s eyes again, and the corners of her lips curved like a venomous snake.
"I just don’t get a good feeling from that Yan Yan Tribe Witch."
Wu Yue frowned. "And after just one night, she already knows your name."
"She’s a very calculating woman. You’ll need to be careful around her. A woman’s jealousy can be a terrifying thing."
Yuan Lang’s dark eyes deepened. He recalled the Emperor’s Concubines and the women in the courtyards of various officials from his past. To get ahead, they would resort to any means, no matter how insidious or vicious.
Wu Yue glanced down at her own slender frame. "She might look like a Shun Yuan, but her figure and looks are exactly what the males in this world prefer. What could she possibly be jealous of me for?"
Yuan Lang gave her an amused look. "She’s not necessarily jealous of your looks. A woman who’s always been put on a pedestal by men can’t stand to see anyone else doing better than her."
Wu Yue pouted. "Guess it’s my fault for being so great, huh?"
Yuan Lang...
’And just like that, I’ve completely lost the desire to comfort you.’
Seeing the constipated look on the Beastman’s face, Wu Yue giggled. "Let’s not let her ruin our mood. Isn’t a little shopping way more fun?"
"I don’t know about shopping being ’fun,’ but she’s not the one affecting my mood." ’It’s you...’
’I have a feeling that if I end up pairing with this young woman, life will be very... eventful.’
The flat trading ground was already filled with small stalls. The more brazen Beastmen were boisterously hawking their tribe’s wares.
The more timid tribes huddled behind their stalls, just grunting a few words if anyone asked a question.
A prime example was a mid-sized tribe whose leader was named Tutou.
On a worn-out Beast Skin in front of them lay many dull, gray, fist-sized objects that looked like some kind of food.
Wu Yue pulled Yuan Lang over. "Tribe Leader Tutou."
The voice from above sounded vaguely familiar. The timid Tribe Leader Tutou looked up and saw the Witch Disciple who had led them to their house the other day. "Witch... Witch... My Lady..."
He wrung his hands, stammering "Witch" for a while, unsure how to properly address this female who was said to hold a very prestigious position in the Snow Tiger Tribe.
Seeing his unease, Wu Yue smiled. "You can just call me Wuyue."
With that, she bent down and picked up one of the dull, gray objects from his Beast Skin. "Are you trading this as food?"
Tutou nodded eagerly. "Yes, it’s a food that only grows near our tribe. We harvested a large amount not too long ago.
Don’t be put off by how dull and gray it looks now. It’s quite clean once you wash it."
With that, he turned, grabbed a stone pot from behind him, and tossed one of the earthy lumps in to wash it.
As the water in the stone pot grew murky, the dirt washed away from the object in Tutou’s hands. The pale yellow skin and the few playful spots dotting its surface... it was an incredibly familiar sight.
"HOLY CRAP! Host, is that a potato?!" The System also poked its little head out of the satchel, its excited voice echoing in Wu Yue’s mind.
’Wu Yue’s eyes lit up. It was a potato!’
’And just like taro, they could be cultivated.’
Though she was thrilled, she did her best to control her expression. Only Yuan Lang, standing right beside her, noticed the way her body tensed for a split second.
"What’s wrong?"
Wu Yue set the potato down. "I’ve never seen this food before. I wonder if it tastes any good?"
Hearing her question, Tutou scratched his head, a little embarrassed. "It’s not as tasty as fruit, of course, but if you roast it in a fire, it’s actually pretty good."
