Chapter 2162: Chapter 2363: A Stark Contrast
Hu Lai and Fatty burst into laughter upon hearing it. No matter how strong Gu Peng is, their friendship with Hao Jian has grown so deep over time and through so many events that it’s beyond ordinary comparison. Besides, even if he’s strong, so what? He’s still repeatedly messed with Hao Jian and ended up getting his teeth knocked out by Hao Jian.
That’s why they trust Hao Jian and choose to stand by his side at this moment.
The last class wasn’t one of the main subjects, so the teacher wasn’t too strict, just gave a brief lecture, then let them do their homework while the teacher disappeared somewhere. Hao Jian was chatting with Hu Lai and Fatty, but unexpectedly, Zhang Danlin walked over without any warning.
"You..." Zhang Danlin hesitated, seeing Hu Lai and Fatty beside him.
Hao Jian glanced at her immediately, and both he and Fatty understood what Zhang Danlin meant. They quickly turned their heads away and started chatting amongst themselves, allowing Zhang Danlin to look seriously at Hao Jian.
"Do you have confidence? Are you sure you want to do this?" Zhang Danlin asked Hao Jian.
Hearing this, Hao Jian frowned. What do you mean do I have confidence? Of course, I do! How could I show fear in front of a girl or say I can’t do something? A guy should never admit he’s inadequate, especially since he really isn’t. So he frowned,
looked at Zhang Danlin, and said, "What’s this about confidence? I never fight a battle I’m not prepared for!"
Hao Jian spoke with raised brows and a confident demeanor. Zhang Danlin initially thought last night’s incident might affect their relationship, but seeing Hao Jian joking and chatting as though nothing happened, she felt relieved.
Since Hao Jian pretended nothing was wrong, she also acted as if nothing had happened, maintaining a calm expression.
"Well..." Zhang Danlin lowered her voice, "if there’s anything you need help with, just let me know."
After saying this, she turned and left, leaving Hao Jian gazing dumbly at her back. Fatty slapped him on the shoulder, laughing, "Wow, boss, your luck with the ladies is amazing!"
Hu Lai laughed along, but Hao Jian just rolled his eyes at them and said, "Screw you!"
They laughed, but didn’t dare to continue teasing. As the "ding ding ding" sound of the school bell rang, the campus was again stirred into a restless energy.
"Let’s go!" Hao Jian stood up and said.
......
The back hills of most schools are basically the go-to spot for students to settle scores with brawls, because teachers generally don’t come here, and school leaders even less so. It’s the best place to settle personal vendettas, either individually or collectively. Winning brings glory, losing just means you’re weak, and next time you’d better steer clear of your opponent.
And the back hill for Yawen students is such a sacred place. If students have any personal grudges to settle, they usually schedule a showdown at the school’s back hill for a decisive battle. Lose and you’re humiliated; win, and you can strut around fearlessly without anyone daring to say a word.
Now, right after class, Hao Jian led a group over, with Hu Lai and Fatty by his side. Upon learning of the situation, Zheng Jun generously joined in, and Liang Xiaohan also followed, arms crossed, ready for a show. As for Zhang Danlin, she didn’t show up. She intended to come along in case anything went wrong, but seeing Liang Xiaohan join, she and He Qiqi stood not far away, watching.
At this point, Hao Jian had already arrived at the school’s back hill with his crew, including four others. Liang Xiaohan was determined to come along, while Hu Lai, Fatty, and Zheng Jun, despite knowing Hao Jian’s chances of winning weren’t great, still came along for the sake of their solid friendship in this "moment of crisis."
Upon arriving at the school back hill and seeing the scene, Hao Jian grinned. He knew Gu Peng liked to create a big spectacle, but he hadn’t expected such a grand one this time. Even he was secretly shocked at Gu Peng’s influence, having gathered so many people in such a short time. No wonder so few dared to cross him at Yawen.
With that thought, Hao Jian took big strides forward.
"Hahaha..."
As Gu Peng saw Hao Jian approaching with only a few people, he burst into laughter. His followers naturally laughed along, too. They’d all expected Hao Jian to bring many more people, eager to see just who this Hao Jian was who dared to go against someone like Gu Peng, and to judge his capabilities. But seeing this, they were stunned.
Only five of you, including a girl, while we have at least seventy to eighty people. Five against seventy or eighty of us? Dude, you must be joking! Especially Gu Peng, who was laughing uncontrollably, unsure if he was mocking Hao Jian or enjoying something else.
By now, Hao Jian had already led his group right in front of Gu Peng.
At this moment, the two sides formed a striking contrast. On one side were Hao Jian’s five, including the girl Liang Xiaohan, while on the other was Gu Peng with seventy to eighty people standing by. Seventy or eighty might not sound like a lot, but it surely wasn’t few either.
To know that one class might have around fifty or sixty students, this situation was equivalent to nearly two classes. Comparing two classes of people to five, the disparity in numbers meant Gu Peng’s group was over ten times that of Hao Jian’s.
They thought Hao Jian had come just to embarrass himself. Initially, Gu Peng believed Hao Jian was reckless, having assaulted him recently, which suggested he was prepping for something big. But now seeing this, he was astonished; so you really only have this level of strength, making me call so many people?
Gu Peng and Hao Jian faced each other, less than five meters apart. Gu Peng looked at Hao Jian, then suddenly smiled and said to him, "Are you here to make us laugh?"
As he spoke, he laughed again, and his followers joined in. This incident had grown widespread, known by almost everyone at the school except teachers, so many came to watch the fun. Gu Peng meant to teach Hao Jian a lesson and disgrace him, magnifying his own authority, so he didn’t stop the crowd.
At present, the crowd gathered not far from the school’s back hill, waiting for the show. Seeing Hao Jian daring to confront Gu Peng’s enormous crew with just five people, they were also astounded. Gu Peng summoning so many was one of the rare spectacles in Yawen’s history, while Hao Jian bringing so few was nearly the least ever seen.
This made everyone want to laugh; were they here for a deathmatch or just seeking death? Many, upon seeing Hao Jian’s confident demeanor, had expected him to organize something grand, yet realizing the actual scale was laugh-worthy, almost startling them.
"No way!" Hao Jian said.
Gu Peng looked at Hao Jian with disbelief, pointed at him, and asked, "No way? What the hell are you trying to do, challenging me with so few people?"
Then he stepped out, eyeing Hu Lai, pointing at Fatty, casting a stern glance at Zheng Jun, and pausing briefly on seeing Liang Xiaohan. He shifted back to Hao Jian and said, "I told you, you’re just here to make us laugh."
Saying this, Gu Peng deliberately raised his voice to let everyone hear and make Hao Jian hear it loud and clear. He intended to crush Hao Jian just with his momentum. Having lost face to Hao Jian recently, he not only aims to take vengeance today but to settle all past grudges and cleanse his prior disgrace.
He suddenly pointed to himself, displaying a faint scar on his jaw, and said, "See this? The wound from a few days ago is still here. Do you think I’ll let you off easy, or are you simply not afraid?"
Hao Jian smiled, "Of course, I’m aware the wound is still there. If you’re keen on more wounds, I don’t mind getting physical again, or should I say I’m here to bet on this challenge to make you crawl away."
"Oh really?" Gu Peng laughed.
He pointed to himself, asking, "Make me crawl away? Are you serious?"
Hao Jian nodded and said, "Of course!"
A stronger smile spread across Gu Peng’s face; he found Hao Jian downright hilarious. Wasn’t the reality right in front of him? Truly overestimating himself and utterly lacking self-awareness.
However, he felt that just embarrassing Hao Jian wasn’t amusing enough. He wanted to humiliate Hao Jian thoroughly, showing him the consequence of crossing him and making him deeply regret, utterly and completely.
Suddenly, he waved a hand at a lackey behind him, who promptly walked forward to offer him a cigarette. As he slightly lowered his head, the lackey hurriedly took a few steps forward, lighting the cigarette for him with a lighter.
Once lit, he took a deep drag, and after letting it go through his lungs, he exhaled, blowing out rings of smoke with a rather smug expression.
