Chapter 2152: Chapter 2353: Kid, Your Cooking Skills Aren’t Bad!
The evening study session carried out by Hu Lai and Fatty’s two teams of jokesters quickly passed by. Before class ended, Hao Jian sent a message to Liang Xiaohan, saying he had something to do with Li Weiwei afterward, so she should go home by herself and he’d return later. Liang Xiaohan just sent back an emoji of a chopping knife and didn’t say anything further.
Luckily, Liang Xiaohan didn’t make a fuss, otherwise, if he wanted to tease Li Weiwei, he’d have to deal with her first.
As soon as class was dismissed, most of the people left, and he sat in the classroom waiting for Li Weiwei. Sure enough, before long, Li Weiwei showed up. It was clear that she didn’t dare to go against her mom’s wishes too much; otherwise, she wouldn’t have a pleasant time at home. So, even though she didn’t really want Hao Jian to go, since it was already a done deal, she accepted it.
At this moment, she stood outside the classroom corridor and glanced at Hao Jian. Hao Jian immediately scampered out to her and, with a smile, said, "Hey... what should I prepare to bring over for dinner at your parents’ place? Should I bring some gifts? Or maybe dress up a bit? I can’t go so casually; should I wear a suit and tie?"
Li Weiwei came to find him, which was already a good thing, but she hadn’t expected Hao Jian to have such thick skin and say such things. She immediately rolled her eyes at him and said, "You’re taking yourself too seriously, aren’t you? It’s all fake. Did you really think it’s all real? Go on dreaming in broad daylight."
Hao Jian stopped smiling, clicked his tongue, and Li Weiwei had already walked ahead by then, so he followed her to the parking area. Last time, Li Weiwei had already seen Hao Jian’s driving skills, so this time she directly tossed the car keys to him, intending for him to drive.
Although driving was a bit of hard work, as soon as he took the keys, a smile appeared on Hao Jian’s face. He got in the car, and once Li Weiwei sat down too, he started the car and drove toward her house. It wasn’t long before Hao Jian parked the car in the parking area of Li Weiwei’s neighborhood.
"Knock, knock, knock!" Hao Jian knocked on the front door.
A few seconds after knocking, the door opened, and Li Weiwei’s mom answered it. As soon as she saw Hao Jian, she greeted him with a smile, then looked at Li Weiwei standing behind him and said, "You entertain Little Hao; I’ll go with your dad to prepare the food!"
Hao Jian smiled and said, "No worries, Aunt. Go ahead, I’m not like an outsider; I don’t need to be entertained."
Li Weiwei’s mom gave a smile and left. At this time, Li Weiwei glanced at him and said, "You’re not an outsider? Then who is? You’re just here to play a role, so don’t take yourself too seriously."
Hao Jian laughed, not expecting Li Weiwei to speak so sharply, but it didn’t matter to him anymore. Since he was already in the house, was he really afraid she would kick him out? Anyway, now that he’s inside, he doesn’t care what she says; he’ll do as he pleases.
Hao Jian just rolled his eyes at her, changed his shoes, then walked to the living room and sat on the sofa. Li Weiwei might hate Hao Jian’s antics, but since he was already there, she had to put on a show for her parents. She got up and poured Hao Jian a glass of water.
When Hao Jian saw the glass of water, he was quite surprised. He didn’t expect Li Weiwei to actually pour him a drink. He felt quite flattered and relieved that she didn’t throw him out.
Li Weiwei then sat down in front of him with a serious face and said, "Make sure you behave later; you know what you should and shouldn’t say. If you say the wrong thing at the dinner table, just wait and see."
Hao Jian feigned ignorance and asked, "What should and shouldn’t I say? Tell me, I really don’t know."
Li Weiwei said, "Don’t play dumb with me. If you say something inappropriate that my parents hear, just wait and see. If you make things difficult for me, I have plenty of chances to make things difficult for you at school. Today is just a small start."
Hearing this, Hao Jian laughed to himself, thinking, if he wanted to leave today, would she actually be able to stop him? If he didn’t want to stay, would he really listen to her and stick around? Besides, he’s at Yawen because of Liang Xiaohan. He could leave anytime he wanted, and what could she do about it?
What Li Weiwei saw as her trump cards were nothing to him. However, he still pretended to be a little afraid and said, "Alright, alright, I’ll keep it in check."
"That’s better. Otherwise, just you wait!" Li Weiwei said, giving him another glare.
At this point, Hao Jian knew that if he continued to be alone in the living room with Li Weiwei, things would only get more awkward. Not wanting to continue staying alone with her, he rolled his eyes at her, glanced at her parents busy in the kitchen, and got up to head into the kitchen.
"Anything I can help with, Aunt?" Hao Jian asked as he entered the kitchen.
At this time, Li Weiwei’s dad was at the stove, and her mom was helping him. Seeing Hao Jian come in, she said, "Little Hao, just go sit with Weiwei in the living room and wait for the meal. Let us handle this."
Hao Jian smiled and said, "How can I just sit and do nothing? I know a bit about cooking. Let me help you, Aunt and Uncle."
Li Weiwei’s mom was a bit surprised when she heard that Hao Jian could cook. Nowadays, women seem less able to cook, while men can cook more often. To claim he has cooking skills in front of her, he must be somewhat competent. She originally wasn’t going to let Hao Jian cook, but now she’s curious to see how good his cooking really is.
If Hao Jian’s cooking is good, then her daughter will enjoy a good life in the future. She didn’t insist on her viewpoint, saying: "Okay, that’s fine, you come and help Auntie pick the vegetables."
Seeing Li Weiwei’s mom agree, Hao Jian smiled and said: "Sure!"
Hao Jian crouched down beside Li Weiwei’s mom to pick the vegetables. As they picked, although cooking is usually done by her dad, her mom could cook as well. She quickly noticed that Hao Jian’s technique was so proficient that there’s no way he wouldn’t know how to cook. She praised Hao Jian, saying: "Little Hao, looks like you’re quite good at cooking."
Seeing Li Weiwei’s mom start a conversation with him, Hao Jian replied: "Ah... just average, sometimes I cook for myself to get by, and gradually picked it up."
Li Weiwei’s mom then asked: "Do you live alone? Not with your parents?"
Hao Jian hadn’t expected the topic to shift to this; he pondered how to change the subject. But realized, indeed, he was living alone, as it was impossible to live with his parents. So he said: "Yes, I live alone."
Li Weiwei’s mom acknowledged with an "Oh," thoughtfully considering something. Living alone without his parents meant fewer complications if Weiwei married him. Life is best spent with just the two of them.
With this thought, Li Weiwei’s mom looked at Hao Jian with even more favor, finding him increasingly pleasing to the eye. This young man was genuinely nice.
At this moment, the two had finished picking the vegetables. Li Weiwei’s mom took the vegetables and went to wash them. Hao Jian, noticing this, walked over to Li Weiwei’s dad. Seeing him sweating from cooking, Hao Jian said: "Uncle, how about I take over and you take a rest."
Li Weiwei’s dad was less reserved than her mom. Hearing Hao Jian offer to cook, he readily agreed, nodded, and cleared a space for Hao Jian, saying: "Alright, you go ahead."
Firstly, hearing Hao Jian speak, he gathered the young man’s cooking skills weren’t bad and wanted to see for himself. Secondly, since the young man offered to help, he should let him. Treating him like an outsider might lead to dissatisfaction; his perspective was different from his wife’s.
Hao Jian smoothly took over the ladle and began cooking. The dish was braised pork, a common dish for family gatherings. However, cooking it well requires a certain mastery; otherwise, it won’t be perfectly flavorful—it’s either burnt or not seasoned properly.
Li Weiwei’s dad watched Hao Jian prepare the braised pork, observing his actions and technique as those of an experienced cook. He smiled with satisfaction, realizing the young man showed some skill. He exchanged a glance with Li Weiwei’s mom, and both smiled seeing Hao Jian cooking.
The result was that although Li Weiwei’s dad initially started the dish, he did only about half. From the moment the braised pork was prepared, Hao Jian took over the cooking. About half an hour later, Hao Jian finished preparing the remaining dishes, then clapped his hands.
"All done!" Hao Jian said.
Li Weiwei’s dad gave Hao Jian a thumbs-up, saying: "Not bad, young man! Your skill is evident; you must cook quite often."
Hao Jian smiled and said: "Just cooking for myself usually."
Li Weiwei’s dad smiled without saying anything further. Li Weiwei’s mom had already set the dining table, and the two brought the dishes to the table, filling the kitchen with a fragrant aroma.
Li Weiwei sniffed and said: "Smells great!"
Li Weiwei’s dad commented: "Yeah, Little Hao’s skills are indeed impressive, even better than this old man."
Li Weiwei, hearing this, looked surprised and asked: "He cooked it?"
Li Weiwei’s mom gave her a look, saying: "Who else, you lazy girl?"
