Su Yang came here this time to test the waters with the man. Seeing that the man was unwilling to speak, Su Yang had no choice but to walk away helplessly.
However, just as he was about to turn and leave, Su Yang suddenly stopped.
He looked at the half Heavenly Dao Stone Tablet, then at the man on the stone tablet, and something occurred to him. He took a step back and summoned the Heaven Slayer illusion from within him.
The illusion now embodied the fusion of Buddha and Demon, which had even shocked the First God upon witnessing it. Su Yang wanted to see if the man would be equally astounded by this illusion.
And indeed, Su Yang’s action proved to be correct.
Once the illusion appeared, the Heaven Slayer illusion stood proudly in the void, gazing down upon the world. Half Buddha, with eyes slightly closed, a merciful expression, offering salvation to all living beings.
The two, one a Demon and one a Buddha, were supposed to be utterly opposed. However, now they were fused together, and most crucially, there was no sense of discord as if they were meant to be this way, an incredibly profound union.
When the illusion appeared, the man finally moved as well. He opened his eyes and looked at the illusion with astonishment, as if witnessing the most incredible thing.
The man stared at the illusion in the air for a moment, then looked at Su Yang on the ground, lost in thought.
Su Yang didn’t disturb him, waiting quietly for a while, until the man finally spoke: "Is this the Buddha Power that the Buddha Venerable left you?"
Su Yang nodded, "Exactly!"
"So it really is him!" The man said softly, "Among the three of us, the Buddha Venerable was the most talented, yet paradoxically, his achievements were the lowest. I had long wondered what happened, but as it turns out, during the Ancient Times, he did not completely annihilate the demonic barrier; he reforged it into a person, becoming the Heaven Slayer of later generations!"
This revelation stirred something within Su Yang. The man’s mention of ’the three of us’ unmistakably referred to the three from the Ancient era. Meaning, this man must either be the Human Emperor or the Taoist Venerable. But which one is he?
Regardless, both are exceptionally heaven-defying beings!
"So, does this mean the Buddha Venerable intends to merge with the Heaven Slayer to restore his original self?" Su Yang curiously asked.
"Not necessarily!" The man shook his head. "The demonic barrier has been independent for too long, developing its own consciousness, it has become a separate person, how could they possibly merge into one? The Buddha Venerable wouldn’t do that, and neither would the Heaven Slayer!"
"Then, what am I now..." Su Yang was bewildered.
The man glanced at Su Yang and softly said, "You are an experiment!"
"What?" Su Yang was stunned. What does that mean? What does it mean to be an experiment?
"You are an experiment specifically testing the viability of the Buddha and Demon Coexistence by the Buddha Venerable and Heaven Slayer!" the man explained. "And now, it has been proven that this is indeed feasible!"
"Is that so?" Su Yang’s voice carried a trace of disappointment, so he was merely an experiment for someone else. Anyone in his place would feel somewhat aggrieved.
Seeing Su Yang’s confusion, the man leisurely added, "You need not be disheartened. The Buddha Venerable is not the kind to harm indiscriminately, and I doubt the Heaven Slayer is of such a nature either. Do you know why you were chosen as the experiment?"
Su Yang shook his head. The man continued, "Because you possess the Undying Bone of the Heaven Slayer!"
"What?" Su Yang was dumbfounded. The Undying Bone was given to him by his mother. Could it have been her decision?
"Don’t overthink it!" The man advised. "Even though your mother gave you the Undying Bone, she didn’t know that whoever possessed it would be selected as the experiment. She only knew that the Undying Bone was the finest treasure, so she gave it to you. Do you understand?"
Su Yang finally felt much relieved. Earlier, he had worried that even his mother saw him merely as an experiment. Now it seemed that his mother had never intended such a thing.
"Do you know why the possessor of the Undying Bone would be chosen as the experiment?" the man asked once more.
Su Yang shook his head again, and the man explained, "Because this experiment is extremely dangerous, and a slightest mishap could be fatal. The experiment subject must have the utmost safety measures. The Undying Bone is the strongest skeleton in the Three Thousand Great Worlds, capable of ensuring the subject’s survival. So, from the start of this experiment, they would choose the one with the Undying Bone as the subject, to maximize the chances of his survival!"
"I see!" Su Yang breathed a sigh of relief. So, it seems that the Buddha Venerable and the Heaven Slayer were not as indifferent to human life as he had imagined.
"Moreover, on the Ancient Battlefield, the Buddha Venerable even recreated your body, and then fused the Buddha and Demon within you!" the man remarked. "Do you know what kind of body the Buddha Venerable gave you?"
Once again, Su Yang shook his head. The man said, "It is the Buddha Venerable’s Undying Golden Body!"
"Undying Golden Body?" Su Yang was shocked. Just from the name alone, it sounded extraordinary.
"The Undying Bone and the Undying Golden Body together form the Undying Body!" the man said solemnly. "Only with the Undying Body can you withstand the power of the Buddha and Demon Coexistence. This is also the greatest safety assurance for the experiment subject. Do you understand?"
Su Yang nodded vigorously. In this light, it seemed that before doing anything, both the Buddha Venerable and the Heaven Slayer were doing everything possible to preserve his life. Now, upon reflection, the Buddha Venerable and the Heaven Slayer were indeed quite good to him, dissipating all of Su Yang’s previous grievances.
"For the Buddha and Demon Coexistence to succeed, it seems I have truly underestimated the decision made by the Buddha Venerable back then!" the man mused with a smile. "For the Human Clan, there is now another glimmer of hope!"
Su Yang was utterly astonished. Merely the Buddha and Demon Coexistence could bring such hope to the Human Clan?
"Senior, the current situation of the Human Clan is very critical..." Su Yang urgently said.
"Critical? What for?" the man glared. "The ones coming out of the Immortal Palace are not invincible. Just fight them. What’s there to fear? The real strong ones haven’t appeared yet, anyway, the Human Clan isn’t without strong individuals. Why fear them?"
"Uh..." Su Yang scratched his head and softly said, "But, the Human Clan isn’t united right now!"
"Then make them unite!" the man declared bluntly.
"This..." Su Yang was at a loss. It’s easy to say but hard to achieve.
"Just go ahead and do your part!" the man proudly instructed. "There will be someone to help you!"
"Someone will help me?" Su Yang was puzzled. Who could possibly aid him? Could it be the Emperor Slave?
"Remember, you are the embodiment of the Buddha and Demon, chosen by the Buddha Venerable and the Heaven Slayer!" the man softly reminded. "In the Ancient era, we three were supreme. In the Ancient Times, it was the Heaven Slayer, my daughter, and the master of the World Melting Furnace. But those were times past, now is a new era, demanding new leadership. And you will be the new leader of the Human Clan!"
