"Alright then, let’s first get the person to the hospital, they seem quite badly hurt."
The bar manager also appeared at this time. These guys are their biggest patrons and top members. They couldn’t believe such an incident happened when these people decided to drink outside today. If any of them were injured, it would be difficult to explain, so the manager was particularly attentive and had already called for an ambulance.
"Don’t worry, it’s on the way, and someone is looking for that car key too."
Luckily, Zhu Ya made the call early, so the ambulance arrived quickly, but Xiao Zhen didn’t bother looking for the key and directly took her to the hospital.
At the hospital, initially, the doctor was going to treat Zhu Ya’s forehead.
But then, seeing Zhu Ya holding tightly onto a barbeque, which by now was inedible and covered with all sorts of stuff.
Trying to take it away proved a bit difficult, leaving no choice but to consult others.
"Who among you is the patient’s family? Can you take the barbeque from her hand? She won’t let go, and we really have no choice."
The doctor was somewhat helpless, and Xiao Zhen exchanged glances with a few brothers; none of them were the patient’s family, yet the patient was lying there because of them. Helplessly, Xiao Zhen had to step forward.
"Can’t you ignore her hand? It’s the forehead that’s injured, not the hand."
The doctor hesitated, "But we’d like to check if there are other injuries, it’s somewhat inconvenient."
The hotel’s manager followed along, and hearing the doctor, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Rest assured, she’s got no other injuries, it’s just a head injury. Please make a thorough examination, we can’t afford any trouble."
After the wound was treated and Zhu Ya hadn’t woken up, the doctor went out: "The patient isn’t severely injured, perhaps she got hit and feels dizzy, it’s mere superficial injuries. We stitched up a few places, she should wake up soon, however, her condition is quite unstable, she’s frowning like she’s worried about something."
Xiao Zhen exchanged glances with the brothers, they just came out for a little celebratory drink, and unexpectedly this incident occurred, someone else ended up hurt because of them. It didn’t feel right to leave now.
Yet, the other brothers had families. If they stayed out all night, arguments were inevitable.
"You guys know my situation, if I don’t go home she’ll think I’m fooling around again. I’ll make it up later, but I must leave today."
"Who hasn’t been there? My wife doesn’t trust me at all anymore. Last month she showed up at the hotel directly, if she tells my father-in-law, I might lose my head, so could you cover for me?"
"Don’t even start, look at my phone, she’s called numerous times already, urging me home, saying the kid’s homework isn’t done yet, and now it’s 2 AM. If I don’t tutor then tomorrow the teacher will call again, so Xiao Zhen, could you handle this for now? You don’t have a family to worry about, you’re free to stay."
Upon hearing the brothers talk, Xiao Zhen chuckled, though it was a bitter laugh; after all, not having a family made him seem like the only idle person around.
"Alright, I know you’ve got obligations. If you delay, the wives will hassle me again, considering they never liked you hanging out with me due to my bad rep. Just go home, I’ll stay here, and call you if anything comes up."
The brothers had come to accompany him for drinks, and getting embroiled in trouble and offending the wives wasn’t wise, so Xiao Zhen didn’t hold them back.
He let them go, understanding Xiao Zhen’s intentions, though without thanks, as everyone had long been in it together and would help sooner or later.
Xiao Zhen kept an eye on Zhu Ya, and when she woke up, he handed her a cup of water, which Zhu Ya pushed away, splashing hot water onto Xiao Zhen. Previously, his temper would have led him to slap this person, but now, she had saved him, and he had to endure the grievance.
Zhu Ya hadn’t expected to spill all the hot water on Chairman Xiao’s clothes, with steam rising from them, suggesting the water was scalding hot. Embarrassed, Zhu Ya tried patting his clothes but then felt awkward and didn’t know what to do.
"I’m really sorry, it wasn’t intentional, but my daughter is waiting at home, probably very anxious."
Upon hearing Zhu Ya, Xiao Zhen let go of half his anger. Her daughter was waiting at home while her mother was here due to him.
"It’s okay. Thanks for saving me, and I heard from the staff that you got hurt saving us. Your barbeque has cooled down, and it’s not safe for kids to eat cold food, so I’ll take you home. I’ll have the manager deliver fresh barbeque."
Zhu Ya intended to refuse Xiao Zhen taking her home, but upon moving, she felt dizzy.
Hence, she didn’t refuse, and Xiao Zhen accompanied her downstairs.
Seeing her dizzy spell, Xiao Zhen had to support Zhu Ya into the elevator and knock on the door. A cute little girl opened it, surprising Xiao Zhen.
"Mengmeng?"
Mengmeng hadn’t expected to see this uncle, let alone see him return with mom. What’s wrong with mom’s forehead? Her eyes welled up with tears as she hugged Zhu Ya’s leg.
"Mom, what happened? Why is your head bandaged? Does it hurt? Is it because Mengmeng was naughty that mom got angry and distracted at work, injuring herself?"
Seeing Mengmeng so sensible, Xiao Zhen immediately embraced her, preventing any shaking.
Zhu Ya might topple if moved too much, so Xiao Zhen held Mengmeng while supporting Zhu Ya, helping Zhu Ya onto the sofa and explaining the whole situation, which eased Mengmeng considerably.
However, she was especially dissatisfied with Xiao Zhen, not expecting this bad uncle to let mom get hurt, nor understanding why he would drink. Like a little adult, Mengmeng pointed directly at Xiao Zhen’s nose.
"You’re a bad uncle, mom says people who drink are bad, you’re a bad person!"
