Chapter 694: Chapter 693: Previous Generation’s Evil Fate

Huang Ji nodded, but she still couldn’t feel at ease. She was a woman who always put Ye Fan’s needs first. Knowing this was a critical time and that every interruption would set back his progress, she refrained from disturbing him in the following days. Instead, she focused solely on taking care of his daily needs, not daring to disrupt his cultivation for even a moment.

During this period, Ye Fan went to the forbidden areas daily to challenge ominous entities, mutant Demon Beasts, and even other cultivators from the Outer Realm. He returned with new injuries every day, but his astonishing restorative ability meant his wounds were always fully healed by the next.

However, Ye Fan calculated the time and realized less than a month remained before his arranged battle with the Little God Monarch. Public speculation about their impending duel was rampant. Although his physical body and realm had improved significantly, he still lacked the confidence to defeat the Little God Monarch at his peak. Ye Fan knew he was running out of time. He had to see if he could break through to the third major realm within this month. If he succeeded, victory would be a certainty. If not, the outcome would be difficult to predict.

On a mist-shrouded mountaintop stood a simple pavilion. Inside, two women were seated opposite each other. One was middle-aged, and the other was a young girl whose vacant stare suggested she was deep in thought.

The middle-aged woman spoke. "My disciple, you’ve been restless ever since you returned from the Outer Realm. Is there something troubling you? You can tell your master."

The young girl was none other than Mu Keqing. She responded, "Master, there are indeed some doubts I wish to clarify."

"Then ask away," the middle-aged woman said.

Mu Keqing asked, "Master, have you always seen me as nothing more than a tool for your revenge?"

"Why would you say that?" the middle-aged woman asked in return.

"Master," Mu Keqing continued, "I have truly learned a great deal since I began training with you, and you have taught me everything you know. But I still have many questions! You taught me to disdain all men, and my Dao Heart has followed your path, becoming cold and ruthless. From the very beginning, you intended to raise me as a merciless assassin! What was your purpose in doing all this?"

Faced with this question, the middle-aged woman was truly at a loss for words. She finally said, "My disciple, all of this is my fault."

Mu Keqing stared at her master, completely surprised. She had expected her to make excuses, but the middle-aged woman offered none.

The middle-aged woman continued, "People are meant to have feelings, but I raised you to be heartless. I should never have projected my own emotions onto you. I was the one who changed you, who turned you into this cold and heartless person. I used to believe my methods were correct, but now I see they were wrong!"

"Master!" Mu Keqing choked up. This facade was not what she wanted. She wasn’t a heartless person, yet she had to pretend to be one every day. She was so tired of it. "Master, can you tell me about your past?"

"Since you wish to hear it, I will tell you," her master replied. "My original name was Hua E."

"Hua’e Fairy?" Mu Keqing exclaimed in shock.

The middle-aged woman looked amazed. "You’ve heard of me?"

"I have," Mu Keqing said. "It’s said that in her time, Hua’e Fairy was a dazzling figure, no less remarkable than the current Spirit Sky Demon Venerable. But records of her are scarce. People only know that she had a romance with the Great Wilderness Main God, but no one knows where she went afterward. I never imagined that you, Master, were Hua’e Fairy!"

Mu Keqing was profoundly shocked.

The middle-aged woman affirmed, "Indeed, I had a relationship with the Great Wilderness Main God, but he came to love another woman. That woman was from your Righteous Divine Lineage. In terms of birth, appearance, and even talent, she was far inferior to me. But the Great Wilderness Main God chose to abandon me and be with her, defying the punishment of the Heavenly Dao."

"Like you, I tried many things to win him back. But once a man’s heart moves to another woman, you can never get it back," the middle-aged woman sighed.

At this, Mu Keqing asked, "Master, did you ever do something to hurt the Great Wilderness Main God?"

The middle-aged woman’s expression turned cold in an instant. Mu Keqing lowered her head in silence, knowing she had misspoken.

Hua’e Fairy then confessed, "I did do some foolish things. When the Great Wilderness Main God brought that woman from the Righteous Divine Lineage back to the Great Wilderness Palace, I tried to assassinate her. I hated her. I hated her for stealing my man. So, I grievously wounded her, but the Great Wilderness Main God intervened just in time to stop me."

"From the moment he struck me and cast me off a cliff for that woman’s sake, I swore that I would give the Great Wilderness Main God and that woman a lifetime of torment! If your cries hadn’t woken me that day, I might never have awakened at all." The middle-aged woman had told Mu Keqing everything.

Mu Keqing said, "Master, there’s something I want to say, but I’m not sure if I should."

"Go ahead," the middle-aged woman nodded.

"Master, I think you were too fixated back then," Mu Keqing said. "Perhaps the Great Wilderness Main God always had a place for you in his heart. It’s just... what you did was too much."

"Are you saying I shouldn’t have tried to kill that woman?" the middle-aged woman retorted sharply.

"Even if she was at fault, it didn’t escalate to the point where you should have tried to kill her!" Mu Keqing replied. "I’m not suggesting you should have welcomed that woman with an open heart. But perhaps if you two had been able to sit down and talk calmly, so many unpleasant things wouldn’t have happened." Mu Keqing had always been pure of heart, and her counsel stemmed from that same innocence.

"You’re right," said the middle-aged woman. "If I hadn’t been so impulsive, then even if the Great Wilderness Main God and I had reached the end of our road, there wouldn’t be so much hatred between us now. Perhaps it was the severe injuries I inflicted, combined with the punishment from the Heavenly Dao, that led to her untimely death."

Hearing this, Mu Keqing felt her master had been terribly unreasonable. But no matter how unreasonable, she was still her master.

The middle-aged woman spoke again, her voice filled with the weight of her past. "Alright, from this day forward, I will no longer try to control your thoughts. I will only teach you martial arts. I finally realize now how painful it is to live as I have. I don’t want you to end up like me, neither human nor ghost."

"Really, Master?" Mu Keqing’s demeanor changed in an instant. She took the middle-aged woman’s hand, suddenly playful and lively.

"You little rascal!" The middle-aged woman was left speechless. She had long known that Mu Keqing was hiding her true personality. Now that she was unconstrained, her real self was revealed.

Mu Keqing smiled. "Master, one should try to be happy. You’ve been miserable for so many years; it’s time you found some joy."

"Yes," the middle-aged woman said. "Perhaps I should go to the Great Wilderness Main God and resolve this knot in my heart. Regardless of whose fault it was, I must go to him. Even if he wants to kill me, I won’t have a single regret!"

"Master, I’ll go with you! If he dares to harm you, I’ll have my father teach him a lesson!" Mu Keqing declared angrily.

Seeing how thoughtful Mu Keqing was, the middle-aged woman was deeply moved. She felt gratified that, despite a life full of mistakes, she had ended up with such a considerate disciple. Her life now felt complete, but she knew she still had to bear the consequences of her past actions. After so many years of secret conflict, she decided to find the Great Wilderness Main God and finally clear the air between them.

She turned to Mu Keqing. "Good disciple, let’s go!"

"Okay!" Mu Keqing followed her master joyfully as they headed toward the Great Wilderness Palace.
