Chapter 686: Chapter 685: Obstacles Everywhere
Ye Fan was about to explain, but upon seeing their annoyed expressions, he asked, "Weren’t you two supposed to be out on your trial? What are you doing loitering around here?"
"You don’t understand, Boss. When you’re feeling down, we feel lost too! We’re not in the mood for any trial at all!" Wu Fa and Mu Chen Dong said, spreading their hands helplessly.
Ye Fan said, "Get going on your trial right now, and remember, do not step outside the boundaries I’ve marked!"
Although the two were the type to not take life seriously, they were fortunately obedient, which put Ye Fan at ease. They repeatedly promised to follow his instructions.
Then they asked, "Boss, when will you take us out on a trial?"
Ye Fan replied, "In a few months, I suppose. I need to prepare for a bit, and then I’m going to meet the Great Wilderness Main God!"
"No way!"
The two hadn’t expected Ye Fan to be so bold. The current gap between him and the Great Wilderness Main God was immense. They believed he was walking straight to his death.
"Boss, don’t be impulsive! You have to be careful!"
"Yeah, a true man knows when to yield and when to stand firm, but please be careful, Boss. If the Great Wilderness Main God kills you, won’t we be terribly lonely?"
A pang of pain shot through Ye Fan’s heart. How did I end up with these two thoughtless followers? Ah, such is life. A helpless, frustrating life.
After he shot them a fierce glare, the two sheepishly departed.
He looked in the direction of the Great Wilderness Main God’s domain, muttering to himself, "I hope everything goes smoothly."
...
In the Great Wilderness Space, the Great Wilderness Main God was facing Huang Ji.
She had just returned and was immediately summoned here by him. His expression was grim, a storm of fury brewing.
He asked Huang Ji, "Do you know why I called you back?"
"I know," Huang Ji replied.
"Since you know, are you also aware of the mistake you’ve made?" the Great Wilderness Main God immediately demanded.
"I don’t know what mistake I’ve made because I haven’t made one. I am perfectly clear on everything I have done!" Huang Ji stated firmly.
"Shut your mouth!" the Great Wilderness Main God roared.
He continued in a cold voice, "You are completely lawless! To think that I, the number one Main God of the Divine Domain, could raise such a rebellious daughter!"
Huang Ji said, "Father, everything I’ve done is simply in my own pursuit. You cannot cut me off from it!"
"Pursuit? Do you have any idea how many rumors I’ve suppressed for you? Now, the gossip targets us both, saying I’ve sided with the Righteous Divine Lineage. What can you do besides cause trouble for me?" The Great Wilderness Main God grew increasingly angry.
"I don’t care about the world’s opinions," Huang Ji retorted. "Let them say what they want. I’ve returned precisely to settle this matter with you!"
"Oh? Then speak your mind!" the Great Wilderness Main God demanded coldly.
"Evil God and Righteous Gods have been arch-enemies since ancient times, but he is not a Righteous God. He is a mortal, so there is nothing wrong with us being together! And even if he were a Righteous God, I would still want to be with him. All I know is that we truly love each other and can never forget one another. That is enough."
"Please, Father, do not interfere in our affairs. If you feel this matter disgraces you, then please, cast me out of the family!" Huang Ji said calmly.
Upon hearing her words, the Great Wilderness Main God surged forward in a rage, raising his hand to slap her. Huang Ji tightly closed her eyes.
But halfway there, he found he couldn’t bring himself to strike her.
The sight of Huang Ji reminded him of the woman he had loved most, who had unfortunately died young. Thinking of it now, the memory was a source of profound sorrow. He had wronged that woman, and at this moment, guilt washed over him. He didn’t know how he could ever face her. She was his most cherished wife, yet he had watched helplessly as she died, unable to do anything. His heart ached with grief.
The Great Wilderness Main God lowered his hand. "Forget him," he said. "Or I will kill him myself!"
Huang Ji replied, "If you kill him, I will die with him!"
"Are you threatening me?" the Great Wilderness Main God rebuked.
"I wouldn’t dare threaten you, the exalted Great Wilderness Main God, the paragon of the Divine Domain!" Huang Ji said mockingly.
In truth, her hatred for him stemmed from her mother’s death. She had died in her prime while the Great Wilderness Main God was preoccupied with his own cultivation. He hadn’t even visited after she passed. This was the root of Huang Ji’s hatred, and bringing up the past only made her resentment more terrifying.
The Great Wilderness Main God sighed. He knew some things were better explained sooner rather than later, lest they fester and breed more misunderstandings.
"Follow me," he commanded.
Huang Ji followed, wondering what her father intended to do. To her surprise, he led her to her mother’s graveside.
The Main God’s eyes grew moist. "This chaos is not what your mother would have wanted to see. But there are some things I must explain to you."
"What?" Huang Ji asked, looking at her father with confusion.
Then, the Great Wilderness Main God said, "Your mother was a Righteous God."
Huang Ji was stunned. She never expected her mother to be a Righteous God, which meant her own veins carried the blood of the Righteous Divine Lineage.
The Great Wilderness Main God continued, "Back then, I defied the Heavenly Dao to marry your mother. In truth, we were both cursed because of our union. That is why she died so young. At that time, I too was on the brink of death. I was in seclusion, fighting to resist the Curse Power, when she passed.
"My love for your mother is beyond what you can imagine. I wanted to end my broken life along with her, but I knew I couldn’t die. If I died, what would become of you? I had to take care of you, to care for you on her behalf! For that reason, I endured and lived on."
Having said this, the Great Wilderness Main God stood there, a figure of utter desolation.
Looking up at her father, Huang Ji realized for the first time just how desolate he was. He had grown old.
The Great Wilderness Main God said, "It’s not that I want to sever your love. After all, your mother and I were a special case ourselves. How could I be the one to forcibly separate lovers?
"My opposition stems from the fact that there can be no good outcome for you two. Your bloodlines are incompatible. If you stay together, you will perish—not just you, but him as well! I am doing this for your own good, child. So please, listen to your father and sever your ties with him," the Great Wilderness Main God said, his voice full of dejection.
Huang Ji was shocked to realize her father was acting for her sake. Still, she asked, "Father, how can one detect the Curse Power?"
The Great Wilderness Main God explained, "Once you consummate your relationship, you will feel an intangible force consuming your very being. That is the Curse Power. When your body is hollowed out, it signifies death!"
From the looks of it, my daughter hasn’t crossed that line with the boy yet. There’s still time to salvage things.
But Huang Ji, her face flushing, asked, "Then why is it that every time we are intimate, my power grows stronger?"
