Chapter 675: Chapter 674: The Evil Clan’s Misfortune
Ye Fan and Huang Ji continued forward, slaying the many monsters they encountered along the way. When they reached the mine’s entrance, they found it was sealed, just as they had expected.
"The sealing here is flawless, reinforced with an Array. It’s absolutely impossible to enter from here!" Ye Fan observed.
"Then what do we do?" Huang Ji’s first thought was to leave immediately if there was no way forward.
But Ye Fan said, "Even though there’s no path, I have a way in."
Huang Ji was puzzled, wondering what method he could possibly have.
"We’ll hide and follow these creatures inside," Ye Fan explained. "Since they can get out, there must be a way back in."
"Alright."
The two hid in the shadows. Sure enough, a creature soon appeared with a heart still dangling from its mouth.
"Follow it!"
Ye Fan and Huang Ji moved stealthily, trailing the creature to the base of the mountain where a ventilation shaft, about a meter high, came into view. The creature entered through it.
"We’ve found the entrance," Ye Fan announced.
In fact, this was just one of many ventilation shafts in the mountain. The original mine supervisor had installed numerous vents to ensure there was sufficient air underground, and they served as the best tool for circulating it.
The two entered the vent, plunging into a darkness so complete they could not see their hands in front of their faces. In such an environment, they did not conjure light with their energy. Instead, they activated their Heavenly Eye. This was not a literal third eye unique to Martial Cultivators, but rather an enhanced form of night vision. Generally, any Martial Artist who had passed the Nirvana Realm possessed the Heavenly Eye, allowing them to see clearly in the dark.
Huang Ji followed Ye Fan closely.
As they walked, the ventilation shaft gradually widened until they finally emerged inside the mine. Many relics from the past remained, alongside numerous corpses. During the battle back then, the Demon Suppression Main God had not had time to prepare. By the time he arrived, everyone here was already dead.
Just then, Huang Ji suddenly touched Ye Fan’s shoulder, startling him. He quickly asked, "What are you doing?"
Huang Ji replied, "I feel a spreading sense of fear. I don’t want to be afraid, but I can’t seem to control it."
"You’re right," Ye Fan said. "Normally, I wouldn’t be this scared either, but ever since we came in here, my heart has been pounding."
They both realized that the fear was born from within their own hearts. Under normal circumstances, no matter who touched him, Ye Fan would never have been startled like this. He should have been perfectly calm. Today, however, he felt an invisible, dreadful force shrouding him—a force that even he could not resist.
"Be careful," he said. "I think we’re about to uncover the truth."
The two continued onward into a vast, open area. Suddenly, Ye Fan accidentally stepped on a bone, snapping it with a loud crack. The sound startled them both, but what followed immediately shattered their composure.
From the darkness, the dense, overlapping sounds of countless creatures gnawing on something arose, sending shivers down their spines.
Huang Ji’s sharp eyes spotted them first. "Look over there!" she urged.
Ye Fan looked up to see tens of thousands of monsters swarming toward them, surrounding them from all four directions. If those things reached them, they would be devoured in an instant, not even bones left behind.
Despair washed over Huang Ji. No matter how powerful she was, she could not possibly eliminate so many monsters.
At that moment, Ye Fan suddenly erupted with a brilliant light that illuminated the entire area. When the giant pangolin-like creatures touched the light, they simply dissipated. The radiance acted like a colossal meat grinder, thoroughly obliterating them.
Ye Fan sighed in relief. Huang Ji, however, was stunned. She had never imagined the light could be so terrifyingly powerful.
Why does Ye Fan have such a light within him? Only he knew the truth: the light emanated from the Divine Talisman. Since the light from the Divine Talisman was effective, it proved that these creatures were creations of the Evil Clan. He had gambled correctly.
"Let’s go!" he said to Huang Ji.
He grabbed her hand, and they rushed deeper inside. For some reason, bathed in the light, Huang Ji felt an overwhelming sense of security. The place no longer seemed so terrifying, and the oppressive fear in her heart vanished.
Just then, an absolute, crushing terror descended upon them. Ye Fan’s mind plunged into chaos.
"What is this?"
Ye Fan was shocked as a horrifying memory flashed through his mind. He saw a sky filled with a sea of blood. He saw the mighty Evil Clan being crushed after the arrival of the Holy Clan. The Evil Clan scattered and fled, but under the sacred light, they were tainted by the Holy Clan’s Curse Power, forcing them to escape in agony into various other spaces.
Images of the twelve great monsters of the Evil Clan flashed in his mind. Each was distinct, and this giant pangolin was one of them: the Misfortune Pangolin.
Overwhelmed by the disorienting visions, Ye Fan let out a forceful roar and finally snapped back to his senses.
"What... what just happened to you?" Huang Ji asked, her voice filled with fear. Just a moment ago, Ye Fan’s face had been twisted and his gaze vacant, as if his soul had been stolen. It was a terrifying sight, the likes of which she had never seen before.
"I just saw terrifying images," Ye Fan said uncomfortably. "A myriad of strange scenes flooded my mind. I also learned the origin of these monsters!"
"What?" Huang Ji was shocked. If Ye Fan knows the origin of these monsters, could it be that he is not from the Divine Domain? She asked, "What did you see? Or what did you learn?"
Ye Fan replied, "I learned that these terrifying monsters come from the Evil Clan. They’re called Misfortune Pangolins."
Huang Ji was stunned. "The Evil Clan!"
"You’ve heard of them?" Ye Fan asked.
Huang Ji said, "I do not know much, but I think I remember my father mentioning them once. I was not paying attention at the time, but he once said that the Divine Domain is nothing more than a Barbaric Land. He said that beyond the Divine Domain lie many vast continents and spaces, and the Evil Clan is one of the powerful races out there, specializing in devouring. They can consume anything."
This was all Huang Ji knew about the Evil Clan; she would have remained completely unaware if Ye Fan had not brought it up.
"It seems that’s the truth," Ye Fan said. "So be it. They are cursed, which means I have a way to deal with them."
"Mm," Huang Ji nodded.
They continued forward, finally reaching the deepest part of the darkness. From the heart of the gloom came the sound of thunderous breathing, an endless power of fear emanating from it. If not for the light from Ye Fan’s body, the oppressive terror would have likely crushed them to death.
ROAR!
A deafening roar tore through the darkness, and the two quickly retreated.
At last, they saw the creature’s true form: a colossal pangolin. It stood one hundred feet tall, making the two of them look like nothing more than ants before it. Its eyes were blood-red, and its body was covered in many smaller versions of the monsters.
It roared at Ye Fan, "You dare disturb my slumber! You will die! Power of Fear!"
As the power of fear descended, Huang Ji’s eyes widened in terror. Ye Fan quickly shielded her with the Divine Talisman Light.
Bathed in the light, the Misfortune Pangolin contorted in agony, struggling on the spot as it gradually shrank. Only after shrinking did it seem to catch its breath.
"Damn this Curse Power! Your kind already decimated our families and homes, why won’t you let us be? We only wish to cling to life, to preserve a sliver of hope for our people!
"Why? Why must you hunt us to extinction?" the Misfortune Pangolin shrieked at Ye Fan.
It did not dare to charge forward, because Ye Fan’s body contained the Divine Talisman. If it got too close, the curse would kill it. By shrinking its body, it was trying to mitigate the effects of the Divine Talisman Light’s curse.
