For a solid five seconds, Hugo just stood there, staring at the system notification like it had personally betrayed him.

[System Notification: Target Found!]

[10-rated beauty detected!]

What.

What?!

Hugo's brain short-circuited.

His first thought? The system was broken.

It had to be. Because just a few moments ago, it said she was a 9.

And now she was a 10?!

Was this a delayed update? A system lag? Did his Wi-Fi connection in the brain need a reboot?!

For the first time ever, the system glitched?

Why now?!

Hugo blinked, trying to wrap his head around it. 'Okay, okay. Maybe there is another explanation.'

Maybe… maybe Celine was one of those hidden types.

Like those overpowered characters in video games that only unlock their true abilities under special conditions.

Could it be that there were requirements before the system classified her as a complete 10?

Did she need to be in a certain mood? Wearing a certain outfit? Maybe the lighting needed to be perfect?

Hugo's mind went wild with theories.

Then, another thought hit him.

If Celine was really a 10, then… Could he complete his Death Mission with her?

Hugo mentally activated the system and asked.

'System, is Celine a viable target for my mission?'

Silence. No response.

Hugo frowned. "System?"

Still nothing. Hugo's eye twitched.

Oh. Oh, now it wanted to play mysterious?!

For months, this stupid thing had been barking orders at him, throwing notifications left and right, threatening him with literal death.

And now, when he asked something seriously important… it ghosted him?!

Unbelievable.

"Hugo?"

A soft voice pulled him out of his thoughts. Hugo blinked and looked at Celine, who was now eyeing him suspiciously.

"You do this a lot, don't you?" she mused.

"Do what?"

"Space out," she said, tilting her head. "You'll be right in front of someone, then suddenly, boom—your soul leaves your body."

Hugo's soul had, in fact, left his body several times tonight. But she didn't need to know that.

He exhaled slowly, mentally pushing all the system nonsense aside.

What the hell was he doing?

Right now, he had a beautiful woman in front of him, and he was wasting time thinking about algorithms and rating systems?!

Unacceptable.

Hugo suddenly smirked, leaning in slightly. "Sorry, I guess I just got distracted by the thoughts of all the things I'm going to do to you very soon..."

Celine raised an eyebrow but didn't move away. "You're pretty smooth, huh?"

Hugo grinned. "You just noticed?"

Before she could respond, he closed the gap between them and kissed her again.

Soft. Warm. Perfect.

For a moment, there was only silence.

Then—

"Hmph."

Celine pulled away, smirking. "I take it back. You're way too smooth."

Hugo chuckled. "And yet, you're still here."

Celine rolled her eyes and punched his shoulder playfully.

Hugo pretended to be deeply wounded. "Ouch. Violent much?"

"Be grateful I held back," she teased.

Hugo grabbed her hand, intertwining their fingers.

"Come on," he said, pulling her toward the mansion. "Let's go somewhere quieter."

Celine let him lead her, completely at ease.

Hugo, meanwhile, was having an internal monologue.

He already knew what kind of person Celine was.

She was fun. Flirty. Never took things too seriously. She could probably flirt with ten different guys in one night and not even think twice about it.

She wasn't the type to overthink emotions or get attached.

And Hugo?

Hugo was about to completely ruin her expectations.

He smirked to himself.

Tonight, he would give her a memory she would never forget.

He walked through the wild, chaotic dance floor with Celine's hand in his, leading her upstairs like a king returning to his throne.

The music was so loud it rattled his bones, and people were dancing like they had no bones at all, moving their bodies in ways that defied common sense.

It was a mess of flashing lights, sweaty bodies, and drinks being tossed around like confetti.

Yet, none of it mattered.

Because right now, he was taking Celine upstairs.

The moment felt legendary. Hugo had conquered the impossible.

He had dodged every disaster, survived the night's chaos, and now he was leading one of the most beautiful girls in the party—no, in the world—to his room.

This was history in the making!

He grinned to himself, thinking, "They will write books about me. Songs will be sung. Statues will be built."

And then, just as that thought ended, a hand grabbed his belt.

Hugo's entire body froze in horror. Not again. This was the fifth time tonight!

For some reason, some girl in this party had decided his belt was her personal stress ball.

He didn't know who she was, what her intentions were, or how she kept appearing out of nowhere like a thief in the night.

But she needed to be stopped.

He twisted his head around in panic, trying to spot the belt-bandit, but all he saw were people dancing wildly, throwing their hands in the air, and screaming the lyrics of a song that definitely wasn't playing.

Hugo swallowed hard and picked up his pace.

Whatever was happening behind him? Not his problem.

"Are you always this nervous?" Celine asked, her voice filled with amusement as she followed closely behind him.

Hugo scoffed. "Nervous? Please. I'm the most confident man in the world."

Celine raised an eyebrow. "Then why do you look like you're running from a debt collector?"

Hugo refused to answer. Instead, he held her hand tighter and made a break for the stairs.

By the time Hugo reached the upstairs hallway, he felt like he had run a marathon.

He could still hear the music thumping below, but up here, everything was calmer. The lights were dimmer, the voices were quieter, and most importantly…

There was no belt-bandit in sight.

He turned to Celine with a triumphant smirk and nodded toward his room.

"We're here," he said dramatically. Then, with the confidence of a man who had just survived battle, he reached for the door handle, twisted it open, and pushed the door wide.

"Ladies first," he said, leaning against the doorframe. "If you dare."

Celine's lips curled into a smirk. "Oh? You think I'm scared?"

Without hesitation, she stepped inside like she owned the place.

Hugo blinked. 'Damn. She really has guts.'

For a brief second, he considered slamming the door shut and running away just to mess with her, but then he realized…

This was not the time for jokes. This was the time to be a man. He stepped in after her, shut the door, and locked it.

And that's when it happened.

The moment Hugo turned around, Celine attacked.

Before he could even process what was happening, his back hit the wall, and her lips crashed against his.

Hugo's soul left his body.

His brain short-circuited. His lungs forgot how to breathe. His heart? Missing in action.

For a full two seconds, he just stood there in shock, trying to understand how things had escalated this quickly.

Was her drink spiked?!

Because there was no way someone could be this eager unless something unnatural was involved!

Or… was it just that he was that good?

Hugo's confidence skyrocketed.

'Of course! It's me! I'm just irresistible!'

Now that his brain was finally catching up, he decided there was only one appropriate response.

He kissed her back.

But not just any kiss—a kiss that would make history.

He pulled her closer, deepening the kiss as his hands smoothly moved to her waist. She didn't resist.

In fact, she responded by pressing even closer, her fingers sliding into his hair.

And just like that, Hugo knew.

This was the greatest moment of his life.

He had won at life.

He was officially the main character. Continue reading at Freewebnovel
