Chapter 192: Blackspire

Max could still see the entire city from the sky.

"Blackspire..." he muttered.

He had chosen the name a while ago, but only now, while looking down at the city from above, did it truly feel right.

It was far grander than he had imagined when he first started shaping the land. From above, the roads curved like veins around the citadel, spreading through the districts and leading toward the four great gates that faced the world outside.

The black crystal walls surrounded everything like a crown, while towers watched over the plains in every direction, and inside those walls, the people of Voidstar were already flooding the streets.

They were choosing homes, shops, and places where they would spend the next part of their lives.

Max’s vision in his dragon-hybrid form was exceptionally sharp, so even from this height, he could see how people naturally began to separate themselves without needing anyone to force them.

The farmers and manual labor workers chose homes closer to the outskirts of the city, where it would be easier for them to pass through the gates and reach the fields beyond the walls. They were practical people, people used to waking early, working with their bodies, and thinking about distance in a way nobles and warriors rarely did.

As for the craftsmen, many of them chose to live somewhere closer to the middle districts, where both the wealthy and ordinary citizens could reach them without too much trouble. Smiths, leather workers, woodworkers, cooks, potters, herbalists, and those who repaired weapons or tools all began gathering around the roads that would one day become the busiest parts of the city.

Even now, some of them were already dragging tables into their shops, arguing about where counters should stand, where storage rooms should be placed, and whether the doors were wide enough to bring materials in without trouble.

Those who were scholars, healers, officials, or powerful warriors naturally gathered closer to the citadel.

They seemed to understand without being told that the center of the city would one day become the place where decisions were made, where orders would come from, and where their king could summon them whenever the kingdom needed their minds, their swords, or their magic.

Max watched all of it with a strange feeling in his chest.

The city had become a living system. It was miraculous in a way Max could not fully explain. And he had the privilege of watching it happen from above.

After he had seen enough, his wings carried him down.

Agnia and Rosalia were waiting for him.

The two of them stood near the entrance of the citadel quietly, but there were soft smiles on their lips as they watched him return. Their eyes shone like gemstones beneath the sun as they watched him shift back into his human form.

Neither of them could quite explain how it felt to witness one man, the man they had chosen and given their future to, build all of this with his own hands. It was difficult to look at him now and still see only the reckless man who threw himself into battle whenever someone threatened what belonged to him.

Especially for Agnia.

She had witnessed Max’s battle with the Arbiter, had seen the way he stood against that horrifying being while carrying more pain than he ever cared to admit. She understood better than most how much burden he carried inside him, and now that he had built this city, that burden would not become lighter.

It would grow tenfold. Perhaps even more. Because a man who had nothing could lose only himself, but a king who built homes for hundreds of thousands of people would one day have to carry every single one of their lives on his back.

"Well done," Rosalia said softly.

She did not comment on his tired appearance, perhaps because there was no need to say what both of them could already see. Max knew very well that he looked like he had been dragged through hell and thrown back out by force.

His clothes were covered in dust, his hair was a mess from the wind, and even though his eyes still carried that sharp light, the exhaustion beneath it was impossible to hide.

Agnia nodded as her black eyes moved over his face, lingering there for a moment longer than usual. "We’re proud of you. Truly. This..." She looked around herself, toward the citadel behind them and the city stretching below, and for once, even she seemed to struggle to find the right words. "I don’t even know how to explain how much mana, control, and talent it takes to pull something like this off. You’re amazing, Max."

Her voice remained calm, but her heart was not.

It beat wildly beneath her chest, harder than she wanted to admit, and although Agnia had not fully understood it yet, the truth had already settled inside her. Somewhere between the battles, the pain, the fear of losing him, and the sight of him standing above the capital he had built with his own hands, she had completely fallen for him.

Rosalia was no different.

She stood beside Agnia with a calm expression, but that calmness was barely holding together. If Agnia had not been standing there, if the entire city had not been below them, if she had been alone with Max for even a single moment, she might have already thrown herself into his arms without caring how tired he looked or how many people were watching from below.

She loved him. She truly did. And the pride she felt toward him was so strong that it almost hurt, even if she did not voice it as directly as Agnia had.

Max looked from one woman to the other, and the tiredness on his face softened into a grin.

"And I’m proud of myself that I somehow managed to get two beautiful women like you beside me. Haha!"

He walked toward them and slipped right between them, wrapping one arm around Rosalia’s waist and the other around Agnia’s before pulling them both against him. Then, without giving either of them much time to react, he turned them around with him so that all three faced the entrance of the citadel.

"My pretty ladies," Max said, his voice carrying that tired amusement that made it clear he was barely holding himself together but still enjoying every second of it. "Let’s go explore our new home. How about that?"

Agnia let out a low, pleased sound as she leaned against him, while Rosalia gave a small startled squeal when his arm tightened around her waist. Neither of them resisted, though both pretended in their own way that they had allowed it only because they wanted to.

"A personal house tour by the king himself?" Agnia purred against his chest, her nail slowly tracing a small heart over his clothes. "What an honor."

Rosalia noticed it immediately.

Her eyes lowered toward Agnia’s finger, and something competitive flashed across her gaze. She was not the type to lose so easily, especially not here, not when Max was holding both of them at the same time, and Agnia had already started acting as if she owned the place beside him.

Rosalia pressed herself closer, her massive breasts pushing against his arm as her hand slid lower to his crotch with a boldness that made Max’s breath almost catch.

"Will this tour end in any special way, my king?" she purred as well, her voice soft, sweet, and dangerous enough that Agnia’s eyes narrowed slightly from the other side.

Max glanced down at Rosalia, then at Agnia, and for a brief moment, he felt as if the exhaustion in his body had been pushed aside by something much warmer.

There was a strange competition growing between the two women.

It was quiet, almost playful, but also real. This was the first time Max had held them both at once like this, the first time they stood beside him not as separate women caught in the same storm, but as two lovers sharing the same man in the same moment. Neither of them wanted to step back. Neither of them wanted to look weaker, colder, or less desirable than the other.

And Max, trapped between them, could only smile as if he had somehow won a battle he had not even known he was fighting.

From a distance, two other women watched him lead Rosalia and Agnia toward the citadel entrance.

Freya and Gertrud stood silently, neither of them saying a word.

They did not know how they actually felt about what they were seeing. It would have been easier if they could feel only anger, disgust, or indifference, but the emotion sitting inside their chests was far more uncomfortable than that. Watching Max laugh with Rosalia and Agnia, watching his hands rest so naturally around their waists, made both of them feel as if they had been forgotten and pushed aside.

The worst part was that neither of them could truly blame him.

They were the ones who had drawn a line between themselves and Max. They were the ones who had kept distance, hesitated, watched, judged, and waited while Rosalia and Agnia moved closer. Those who cast their nets first were the ones who caught the fish, and now the two women walking beside Max had already claimed places that Freya and Gertrud did not know how to reach.

If they wanted him, then they would have to choose.

They could step forward, seduce him, and make their intentions clear before that distance grew too large to cross.

Or they could wait for Max to approach them first, if that ever happened at all.

For now, neither Freya nor Gertrud moved.

They simply watched as Max disappeared into the citadel with Rosalia and Agnia held close beside him.
