Chapter 188: Shocking The Citizens
As the very first proper house stood in the open fields, the people of Voidstar stared at it as if Max had taken a piece of another world and planted it before them.
The walls alone would have been enough to amaze them, because no ordinary builder could have raised something so solid and beautiful in such a short time, but what truly silenced the crowd was the care hidden inside it.
Max had not simply made a roof and four walls. He had created a place where a family could live without shame, without rain dripping onto their bedding, without smoke burning their lungs, and without waking every morning surrounded by mud, tents, and cold ashes.
Inside, there were beds shaped from smooth crystal and softened by mana until they felt warm beneath the body. The rooms were properly separated for privacy, the windows caught the sunlight without letting the wind rush through, and behind the walls ran a pipe system no one in this world had ever seen before.
Clean water would move through the walls and reach the places where it was needed, while filth would be carried away through hidden channels before it could ever stain the home. There was a bathroom, a bath, and even a shower, all of it shaped from Max’s memories of Earth and brought to life through magic no craftsman of this world could understand.
A cold storage box kept food fresh through Rosalia’s ice dragon magic, while a cooking station shaped with Agnia’s fire dragon magic gave the family a safe place to cook without crouching over smoke and ash.
Max did not understand every secret behind the things from his old world, but he remembered what they were supposed to do, and in this world, with magic all could come to life as he wished.
A strange pride filled his chest, quiet but heavy, because for once he had not destroyed anything. He had built something with his own hands, something he could look at and truly call his.
What shocked him the most was how little mana the house had taken. What would have taken ordinary builders months to finish had taken him only minutes, and yet it stood there proudly, solid, beautiful, and real.
Max turned from the house and looked at the endless field of tents stretching across the plains. A slow smile rose on his lips. One house was only the beginning.
"Citizens of Voidstar," Max called out, his voice loud enough to roll across the open fields and silence every whisper around him. "From this day forward, every single family shall have a house. You will not need to lift a finger, nor will you need to beg for the right to live with dignity."
The crowd stared at him, stunned into silence, but Max did not stop.
"If this city needs shops, I shall build them. If it needs workshops, I shall build them. If it needs halls for healers, barracks for soldiers, storehouses for food, or markets where people can trade without fear, then I shall build those as well. Tell me what Voidstar needs, and I will raise it from the earth."
He let those words settle over them before his eyes became colder, sharper, and filled with a weight that made even the proudest warriors lower their heads.
"But I will ask for one thing in return."
Max paused.
"Loyalty. Undying loyalty. That is all I demand from you, because a king without his people is nothing more than a man wearing an empty title. Without you, there is no Voidstar. Without you, there is no kingdom."
Perhaps the Spirit Sovereign’s trial had taught him something after all. The torture he had endured had not only shown him pain, fear, and despair. It had forged something far worse than a broken survivor.
It had forged a king dangerous enough to raise a kingdom that would one day challenge the world itself.
Cheers and applause spread across the fields, growing louder with every passing breath as the people of Voidstar stared at their king and the future he had promised to build with his own hands.
Even Freya gave Max a different look than usual. The hatred that had once sat so clearly in her eyes was no longer there. It had softened into something quieter, something conflicted, as if she was seeing him properly for the first time and could no longer deny that the man standing before them was not only someone who could destroy, but someone who could also give people a place to live.
Gertrud sat on the ground with her younger siblings around her, letting them play beside her as Max’s voice reached her from afar. For a moment, she stopped moving, and something inside her expression shifted. It was only a small change, almost hidden beneath the tiredness she always carried, but a soft smile still rose on her lips.
Rosalia and Agnia stood closer to Max than most, and although both of them were still trying to understand where these new powers had come from, the way their eyes narrowed made Max feel a chill crawling across his skin. They were not fools. Both of them understood that he must have slept with another woman and gotten her pregnant, because there was no other reason he would suddenly be able to use this power as if it belonged to him.
But neither Rosalia nor Agnia spoke a word.
This was not the place for it, and perhaps it was no longer even something they could tear apart with jealousy alone. Rosalia had begun to understand that Max was a king now, and a king could not belong to one woman the way a simple man could. No matter how much that truth scraped against her heart, she could not be selfish enough to demand all of him for herself when his path had already grown too large.
Besides, it was already too late.
She and Agnia shared an undying bond now. They were not merely rivals standing beside the same man, but sisters tied together by something neither of them could fully explain, something born from love, pain, anger, and acceptance.
And there was one more woman connected to them now.
Clotilde.
Neither Rosalia nor Agnia knew it yet, but far away from Voidstar, in her own kingdom, another woman carried that same unseen thread, unaware that her fate had already begun moving toward theirs.
