Chapter 174: The Spirit Army Arrives
Her claws aimed straight for the throat of her enemy, blue flames gathering around her fingers until each talon looked like a burning blade. She no longer had room to think about the child inside her, the wounds covering her body, or the fear pressing against her soul. In that moment, all she saw was Max trapped inside that golden cage, his body cracking, his eyes still refusing to surrender even as the Arbiter pulled something from him that should never be touched.
But Arbiter Aurelian’s terrifying power was not something she could challenge by will alone.
He extended his hand.
His fingers closed around her burning claw, and the blue flames wrapped around his palm as if trying to devour him, yet they could not even stain his light. Agnia’s eyes widened for only a breath before a sickening crack tore through the room.
Her bones shattered beneath his grip.
Pain exploded through her arm, but she did not scream. Her teeth clenched so hard blood slipped between them, and still, even with her claw crushed in his hand, she tried to push forward, tried to reach him, tried to tear through the golden light with nothing but rage and the last strength left inside her body.
Max watched it happen.
And for the first time in a long while, he felt truly useless.
There was nothing more humiliating for him than this moment. Nothing more unbearable than seeing his woman, wounded and pregnant, rushing to his aid because he was the one trapped, because he was the one unable to move, because the man who had promised to protect what belonged to him now stood inside a golden cage while Agnia broke herself trying to save him.
Something snapped inside him.

The black mist suddenly stopped moving. Even the chains of light wrapped around it trembled.
Max slowly raised his head, and his eyes painted themselves fully black, as if thick ink had filled them from the inside until not even a trace of humanity remained.
Behind Max, a furious army of spirit women came rushing forward, finally catching up to him. They could feel that their master was in danger, and that feeling alone was enough to make every single one of them burn with anger, their bodies moving faster than before as they rushed through the broken path Max had left behind.
Through the gap in the broken wall Max had made, they saw him standing inside a golden circle, the black mist around him being chained and suppressed, while Agnia stood wounded at the side and a masked man stood before their master with that calm, golden light surrounding him.
"Arbiter!"
They recognized him immediately. Not his appearance. Not the mask. Not the white clothes or the long golden smile carved across his face. It was his aura. That disgusting, merciless aura of light that pressed against the soul as if everything before it had already been judged. Their eyes narrowed into slits, and their brows tightened in anger as if their very bodies remembered something they did not wish to remember.
The Arbiter raised his head as well.
And for the first time, he took a step back.
It was not much. It was only one step, barely enough to mean anything. But to Max, that single movement was the one breath he needed. The black mist around him suddenly retracted back into his body, pulling itself together like broken pieces returning to where they belonged. The golden chains around it trembled, and the circle beneath his feet cracked once, as something different began to rise from deep inside him.
His body shone unnaturally.
Not with the golden light of the Arbiter. Not with the black mist of the void either. It was something softer, stranger, almost like sunlight dancing across the surface of water, yet the moment it spread from Max’s body, the golden light around him no longer pressed down as heavily as before.
A power of the Spirit Sovereign?
The system creator’s voice echoed in Max’s mind, sounding puzzled, almost surprised, as if it had not been following everything that had happened to him lately.
That... that might be the key I’ve been missing.
It spoke again, quieter this time, almost like it was talking to itself.
The light wrapped around Max’s scales, spreading over his body in waves while the darkness in his eyes did not fade. His void armor formed again, but this time, the black mist did not simply cover him. It mixed together with that ethereal light, sinking into every crack, wrapping over every scale, making his whole body shine in a way that should not have been possible.

A darkness that shined.
Max did not summon his void blade this time. His claws were enough. That strange light wrapped around them, mixing with the black mist until his fingers looked as if they were carrying both the void and something that belonged to the spirits at the same time.
He slowly raised his fist and punched the air.
The golden circle beneath his feet and the chains still trying to suppress the black mist shattered all at once like glass. Golden fragments scattered around him, breaking apart before they could even touch the ground, while the pressure holding Max’s body vanished.
The shockwave from Max breaking free slammed into Agnia before she could steady herself. She was tossed aside like a useless doll, crashing against the wall before breaking through it and landing in another room behind them.
Saelunith watched it all from above with worry in her eyes.
"Go help her. There is Master’s aura inside her!" she commanded, and around ten women rushed to Agnia’s aid without hesitation.
"As for the rest," Saelunith spoke loudly, her gaze returning to the Arbiter. "Gather your magic and wait for my command. We must help Master kill the Arbiter. There is only one reason why Master is being targeted."
Her expression darkened as she said that.
"And if we do not kill this enemy today, an army far more terrifying than him will crash upon this region, annihilating everyone and erasing us from history..." Her voice lowered, carrying something old and bitter. "Like they did before."
