Chapter 2222: Chapter 2223: Mutation
This voice seemed to contain a beguiling element. As Lin Chen’s consciousness submerged in the purgatory-like scene, the appearance of this voice made his entire body feel filled with power.
His consciousness in the purgatory didn’t move visibly, yet it seemed to emit a soul-shaking force.
As this force surged out, the spectres originally clinging to Lin Chen’s consciousness were instantly shaken away!
Those alien entities were shattered and dispersed in an instant, turning into dust that drifted down.
This caused the sweat on Lin Chen’s forehead to recede, and his expression returned to calmness.
However, his consciousness had not withdrawn, remaining in a desolate darkness with not a glimpse of light.
Suddenly, the scattered dust slowly gathered together, forming a human shape that stood still seven or eight meters away from Lin Chen.
Lin Chen, unaware of the changes outside, did not recognize this person.
"Give me your body, and I will grant you power."
The figure began to walk forward slowly, and the dust scattered with his movements.
He walked slowly, forming an apparition in front of him that reflected into Lin Chen’s eyes.
Lin Chen’s consciousness was a bit stupefied; what he saw was clearly his few kidnapped wives!
Those familiar figures gradually approached Lin Chen, making his eyes slightly tearful. Although not much time had passed, being in the otherworld felt exceedingly long for Lin Chen, and this longing condensed into pure intensity within his heart.
Lin Chen moved, walking slowly. The distance between them gradually closed as he moved.
As Lin Chen slowly approached, the real figure laughed lightly, noticing Lin Chen unconsciously moving closer to the exterior. There lay a faint barrier, weak but visible. His figure remained outside thanks to the barrier, preventing him from rushing straight in.
Unlike previously encountered spectres, which were mere illusions without consciousness, this figure was different.
He was formed by Lin Chen’s subconscious, and if Lin Chen approached rashly, the barrier would react defensively. Though it wouldn’t harm Lin Chen, the fear was that any counterattack might injure Lin Chen internally.
If any irreparable trauma were inflicted, it was unacceptable to him.
Standing outside the barrier, the figure appeared very excited. His confidence soared knowing that once Lin Chen emerged, he could infiltrate Lin Chen’s consciousness and merge them, rendering the barrier ineffective.
Yet, in that instant, the barrier in front of Lin Chen abruptly flickered, revealing an indistinct Bai Ying.
He hovered behind Lin Chen, his hands withered, skin shriveled and stuck to the bones, resembling a mummy.
But the appearance of this mummy tightened Lin Chen’s consciousness, making the mist-formed wives vanish.
"No!"
Lin Chen’s pupils contracted as he waved furiously, desperate to retain the silhouettes, but they dispersed swiftly within moments, revealing their true form.
It was a black-clad figure whose face turned ashen, with malevolent qi emanating from tightly observing Bai Ying, the white-robed elder.
Yet the elder seemed indifferent, only slightly bowing his head and soothingly patting Lin Chen’s back. His ancient palm exuded warmth that gradually calmed Lin Chen’s consciousness.
"Those are mere illusions; don’t be deceived," the elder sighed, knowing illusions could deeply extract inner desires and yearning.
Though unaware of Lin Chen’s vision, the elder sensed his extreme grief. He knew the feelings were harsh.
Lin Chen breathed heavily, and when the figures calmed down, he could clearly discern what lay before him, gradually calming his mind. Despite lingering tears, a peculiar emotion surfaced on his face.
"Who are you, daring to ruin my plans!"
The black-clad figure raged, furious that his prey was disrupted at the brink of capture.
At that moment, Lin Chen turned his head to gaze at Bai Ying, causing his pupils to contract.
Before him stood Su Yan, who had once imparted the Cultivation Technique to him!
"Didn’t he die?" Lin Chen’s scalp tingled. Why was Su Yan hidden within his body, and what was his goal?
Lin Chen scrutinized the figures repeatedly, momentarily shocked and disoriented.
"Don’t be afraid; I harbor no ill intent, merely a lingering spirit from before. Your rapid cultivation enhancements and surplus Spiritual Energy absorbed awoke me, unlike this man..."
Su Yan gently patted Lin Chen’s back, speaking softly with murky eyes that seemed to see Lin Chen’s thoughts, slowly explaining.
He then continued, gazing at the figure: "This man clearly intends to seize your body—had I not appeared, he might have succeeded."
"Ha..." the black figure snorted coldly, fury etched on his face.
Lin Chen studied both, finally setting his gaze on Su Yan before gritting his teeth and choosing to believe Su Yan.
After all, without him, it might have been the black-clad man who prevailed.
"Let’s see your capabilities!"
The black figure roared angrily, abandoning restraint originally meant to control Lin Chen’s body harm-free.
But Bai Ying’s sudden presence dashed his plans. Denied subtleness, brute force was his only option!
The sinister black Evil Qi amassed into a cone before the figure, its point dangerously sharp, its base hidden within his grasp.
Upon conjuring this cone, the figure moved, waving his hand to rotate the cone’s sharp tip step by step.
With a whoosh, the cone rushed toward Lin Chen’s subconscious-formed barrier, aiming to bore through!
"Dodge, focus, protect the conscious sea!"
Su Yan tugged Lin Chen aside, swiftly moving forward instead, resembling a dying candle yet acting swiftly.
This was Lin Chen’s deepest consciousness defense line; if broken, Lin Chen truly would be preyed upon.
