Chapter 2498: Chapter 2562: What Do You Want?
Li Yifei squinted his eyes; pulling out a gun in front of him was not something to be happy about. Zhao Tiezhu, who was beside Li Yifei, immediately walked over to him and shouted to the Deputy Director, "Director Lang, don’t be impulsive, put down the gun immediately!"
At such close range, if the other party really fired, it wouldn’t matter if it hit the heart or brain, the damage would still be immense even if it hit elsewhere. Standing beside Li Yifei at this moment required courage; if the bullet strayed, he might be the one who got hit.
If not for the inappropriate setting, District Chief Yue might have cursed the Deputy Chief Lang on the spot, scolding him furiously, "Dammit, I’m negotiating here personally. Can you not mess things up?" He turned and gave Deputy Chief Lang a hard look, the latter looked confused, seeming unaffected by it, and continued, "Raise your hands immediately, and Zhao Tiezhu, are you still a cop? Standing next to a thug? You’ll pay for this!"
"Get lost!" District Chief Yue finally couldn’t hold back anymore. Hearing Deputy Chief Lang’s nonsense, Yue Buqun couldn’t help but burst out. The latter was stunned for a moment, sheepishly put away his gun, and took a few steps back.
"What do you want? How can I get my son released?" District Chief Yue asked directly.
Li Yifei gave Deputy Chief Lang a deep look, thinking to himself, how does someone with intelligence like this make it to Deputy Director? The way he talked was really lacking. Despite his confusion, Li Yifei didn’t think much of him; even if Deputy Chief Lang had dared to shoot just now, Li Yifei was confident that the bullet wouldn’t hit him and that he could take him down in a second.
The fact that District Chief Yue said "you all" several times proved that he didn’t know the actual number of people inside. Li Yifei looked at him coolly and said, "You reap what you sow."
"What did you say?" District Chief Yue heard clearly but asked anyway.
"Alright, if you want to save your son, come with me inside," Li Yifei indicated behind him.
"Impossible." District Chief Yue wanted to save his son but couldn’t risk himself. The situation inside was unknown; no information had come out, so how could he know how dangerous it was inside?
"Then there’s nothing to discuss." Li Yifei smiled faintly.
District Chief Yue’s tone softened slightly, trying to stabilize Li Yifei, he said, "If you need money, I can ensure you get satisfaction. If you need family treatment, I will arrange the best doctors, even in the Capital City, but you can’t hurt my son."
"Go in, your son will be fine!" Li Yifei stated.
After a tense standoff lasting several seconds, District Chief Yue took a deep breath, glanced back, gritted his teeth, and said, "Fine, I’ll go in with you!"
He regarded Li Yifei as a kidnapper; perhaps the reason for the abduction was due to his son’s car accident, so it wasn’t considered completely vicious. He got this analysis right; Li Yifei wasn’t utterly malevolent, but he was driven by the family’s actions to make a big deal out of it.
Still showing some courage, Li Yifei shook his head, turned around to walk back, not fearing a shot from behind.
"What do you really want?" Reaching the entrance of the building, District Chief Yue stopped to ask.
"What do I want?" Li Yifei turned and glanced at him, to which District Chief Yue nodded, then Li Yifei said, "Have you ever heard a phrase?"
"What phrase?" District Chief Yue was perplexed; this man was too strange, giving him an awkward feeling. Hearing the question now, District Chief Yue instinctively shook his head.
"Pitiful dad!" Liu Yifei uttered these two words, grinning, leaving District Chief Yue with an unforgettable expression, seemingly mocking him, perhaps ridiculing, maybe even sympathizing... There might indeed be sympathy there. If District Chief Yue stayed a corrupt official without notice from the Discipline Inspection Commission, with his network he could probably retire comfortably, yet his son had unforutunately gotten into trouble with Li Yifei, and the handling afterward was even more infuriating.
District Chief Yue knew of "pitiful dad" and its meaning; his eyes bulged. He couldn’t understand why Li Yifei would say this, but by then, the other had turned again towards the stairs, still asking, "What do you mean?"
"It means... District Chief Yue, you’re in trouble." Li Yifei grinned, naturally invoking an urge in District Chief Yue to turn and leave. That meaningful smile sent chills down his spine.
Instinctively unwilling to go inside, suddenly a shout came from upstairs; it was Yue Liang who saw what was happening outside, calling out for District Chief Yue, that call of "Dad" immediately got him moving forward.
Upon reaching upstairs, District Chief Yue quickly spotted Yue Liang, as well as the situation inside; outside a circle of police, inside Yue Liang and his secretary, along with the beaten-up Wang Gang, and a few young people, seeing District Chief Yue, they all showed immense grievance, wondering how they encountered such a situation, actually getting beaten by a group of police officers.
"Dad, wuuu wuuu, Dad, you have to get these people arrested, they hit me and even handcuffed me to the radiator, wuuu wuuu!" Yangyang cried so bitterly, finally wailing at the top of his voice. District Chief Yue’s eyelid twitched. He had felt something was off, wondering how many people were actually involved in the kidnapping. But looking around, apart from that arrogant man just now, surprisingly, they were all in police uniforms. Damn, did these cops really have the guts to kidnap Yangyang and them?
What the hell is going on here? Despite his shrewdness, District Chief Yue couldn’t figure it out at the moment. Seeing Yangyang crying so sadly, he snorted heavily and was about to stride over to his son. But after just a few steps, two arms blocked his way, two younger policemen reaching out to stop him.
"Get lost!" District Chief Yue cursed angrily, reaching out to push, but he didn’t budge them, not one inch.
"What do you want?" District Chief Yue asked angrily, but they did not respond, just continued to block him.
"District Chief Yue, if I were you, I wouldn’t waste my energy. Now that you’re here, let’s have a proper discussion." Li Yifei’s lazy voice came through.
"I thought there were a lot of people, didn’t expect just you." District Chief Yue’s expression shifted multiple times, turning around to somewhat regain his composure. Li Yifei chuckled lightly, "What, disappointed, Mr. District Chief?"
"One person causing such a stir—tell me, why do you listen to him? What is your status? How dare you get involved in kidnapping, hostage-taking, and assault of innocent people? Aren’t you afraid of being punished?" District Chief Yue questioned.
As he spoke, he observed their reactions, noticing no fear, instead catching a hint of mockery in some eyes.
Too abnormal, totally unprecedented. District Chief Yue couldn’t describe the feeling, like everyone suddenly became unafraid of him.
"Dad, don’t waste time with them. They all acted, every one of them is guilty. We... we were beaten so badly, that tall black guy slapped me so many times and even assaulted me!" Seeing District Chief Yue delaying, Yangyang immediately shouted.
Wang Gang wanted to shout too, but he knew it wasn’t necessary at this point. With District Chief Yue here, justice would naturally be served. The others thought the same, feeling confident District Chief Yue would satisfy them, despite that person’s continued arrogance. They firmly believed he would face misfortune.
District Chief Yue glanced back at his son, noticing his swollen face with red handprints. District Chief Yue snorted loudly, and seeing Zhao Tiezhu and others not replying, he said, "Fine, you’re all brave, now I’m taking Yangyang and the others away, who dares to stop me?"
With just Li Yifei, District Chief Yue felt he could handle it. He was confident too; these people were technically his subordinates. He thought their difference in rank would pressure them not to act out. Previously they dared to act because he wasn’t around; now that he’s here, he didn’t have to worry about them.
This was a severe case of bureaucratic thinking. District Chief Yue believed he wasn’t wrong, so he said a few words casually and prepared to take Yangyang and the others away.
As soon as the people inside heard this, they got excited and were about to walk out. Unfortunately, before they walked a few steps, two policemen at the door blocked them. The two had cold expressions, ignoring Yangyang and the others, instead turning to Li Yifei, waiting for his command. Without his order, they wouldn’t let Yangyang and the others out.
District Chief Yue noticed this and his eyelid twitched a few times, nearly cursing out loud. This wasn’t what he expected at all. What was that man’s background that made these people obey him so much... they followed him too obediently, District Chief Yue thought, even if he ordered them to do illegal things, they might not listen.
Well, maybe they would, but that would be for matters like demolition, not kidnapping others, especially when opposing him.
"You’re not afraid of committing crimes, huh?" District Chief Yue said, attempting to personally go save his son, yet his actions were still blocked, and people surrounded him on all sides.
"Zhao Tiezhu, do you know what you’re doing?" District Chief Yue questioned.
Zhao Tiezhu, with a stern expression, nodded without changing his face, answering District Chief Yue’s question.
What the hell, are these guys crazy?
"District Chief Yue, these people are crazy, they’re all crazy, call in the police outside, they’re all crazy, nobody can be trusted." Su Meng suddenly shouted, forcefully pushing the police blocking his way, trying to flee, but although he pushed the officer aside, the officer grabbed him back with a swing. Su Meng lost balance, spun half a turn in the air, and with a thud, crashed beside a table and passed out cold.
District Chief Yue took a deep breath. These people did seem genuinely crazy. This wasn’t the scenario he imagined. He thought with more than twenty police officers here, nothing would go wrong, so he had the confidence to come in alone.
